Roddy Frame - Oblivious. Recorded Live in London for the 'In The Round' or 'Songwriters Circle' series. Graham Gouldman of 10cc and Neil Finn of Crowded House also took part. Check out my other videos for the show.
Oblivious is one of the very best songs ever written. Takes me back to the wonderful 1980s. What a truly special time it was for music. Roddy Frame is an excellent and superbly talented guitarist.
Aztec Camera opened for Elvis Costello in August, 1983 in my hometown of Madison, Wisconsin. The power went out for a stretch, and Roddy and the boys did an acoustic version of Oblivious. It was incredible.
Being into the American blues/rock scene I really never heard of Roddy, I gotta tell ya, this guy kicks ass man! I would have loved to see this show live!
I remember watching this on the telly, not really being into Roddy Frame, watching really for Neil Finn... but fuck me this song blew me away and I think Roddy stole the show...:)
They both know the song. What a wonderful night that must have been, would have loved to see it. Such a good songwriter, guitarist, singer. And always smiling. Beautiful song, Roddy is fantastic
Roddy’s singing, sigh, is a bit more swoony on this version. Kept wanting Graham and Neil to do the Ahh chorus like on the studio version from 83. Still, absolutely love this version and performance. Thx for posting
What talent was on display here: every aspect from the songwriting to the performances. Great to see artists who were so obviously enjoying themselves too.
Found this about a week ago..well Neil actually ( its deep that is Neil) so looked for rest of gig ,,RODDYS AND GRAHAMS bits ...and great stuff...now searching for other artists nights...
Ironically I'm from East Kilbride (two years below Roddy at school), lived near Te Awamutu and love both Aztec Camera and Finn Brother stuff. Spoiled!!
Wow look at that; 3 talented singer-songwriters performing their compositions on stage whilst the audience sit in respectful silence until the end, not a mobile phone in sight. What a time to be alive back then. Also, I would rather watch a hundred episodes of this show than one of the interminable Later... but apparently we're too dumb to be allowed a treat like this these days.
OMG NEIL FINN too!! RF's voice is superb. HIGH LAND, HARD RAIN is an exceptionally good album. RF's guitar structures are sublime. I do prefer original version but not to compare, right!
What year was this performance? Roddy's voice has hardly changed, this song brings me back to when I was in senior school, if only I could travel back to the 80s.
Singer/songwriters these days cant write a song like this. Its all about my girl left me blah blah blah etc.Pure shite, boring as fuck. This man can write a fucking song, what a legend
@whitbyjet65 the scots never had an empire, for starters. i agree with you though, english should be allowed to be proud. it's just they aren't very good at it without turning all BNP
