If you've felt wanting extra gain with the Podmic/AI-1 combo, Rode seemly quietly released firmware version 1.3.1 which increases max gain from 45 dB to 60 dB on the AI-1. Seems to be a legit pre-amp gain and not software. 60 dB seems like a nice spot for the Podmic, 45 dB was under powered for this mic which has a mic sensitivity of -57 dB at 1 kHz. I was previously using an in-line preamp but no real need now. I was able to get 1.3.1 with the Rode Central desktop app.
Thank you! I was just about to purchase a Cloudlifter when I saw this. The firmware installed so fast I wondered if it actually worked. But then ran a test and found I needed to turn it to around 75% gain to get -12 to -18 dB whereas before I needed to max it to 100%.
First off thank you for your videos. They are super helpful and informative. I am currently using this exact setup, podmic, AI-1, and the cloud lifter. My question for you is do you find it necessary or helpful to adjust the widows settings for the microphone input or is it ok to leave that at 100? Would there be any need or benefit to reduce this setting? Thanks in advance.
Hi, I just bought this mic with the stand, COULD YOU PLEASE make a video connecting it to the RODE STREAMER X ? Please I would really appreciate it. Also once connected to the laptop and software, how do we record with out camera???
Hey, could you do a video with the Rode Podmic plugged to the M Track solo?? That's the setup I have but the gain is really low and I only hear the left channel
Relatively new podcaster looking to upgrade my setup. Do you have a link to a kit or package where i can buy everything I would need it one? The mic, arm, mixer, mic cover etc? Everything except the thing to make me sound louder lol thanks
Y does my pod mic show up as usb audio device and not rode podmic name and rode central and rode connect desktop apps don’t see it plugged in and it’s quiet but I have it hooked up to audio interface???
So I was thinking about getting this set up but I use a pair of Astro a40 that came with its own mix amp, I was wondering if I could use both the Astro mix amp for my headphones and the AI-1 for the mic?
Could you use a traditional pop screen or are those only for condenser mics? I'm thinking of buying this setup but i already have a clamp on windscreen. Just wondering. Thanks.
HI i have a question. I plugged everything in already but on my OBS and Discord it didnt recognise my input (on the audio interface it still turn green when i talk). Ihave the the latest software also. i did try everthing (choose the right input on setting) but it still didnt work. Do u know why ? Thanks
how does the AI-1 compare to the Elgato Wave XLR or the Rode Streamer X? I get weird pops/crackles in my headphones when I'm going through my AMP/DAC combo (and NOT using the headphone jack/interface for audio output) ...
IMO, the AI-1 is very comparable to the Elgato Wave XLR. With the AI-1 you get a 1/4" input, with Elgato, you get their whole workflow. Streamer X is pretty awesome. I just got it a couple days ago, and I'm still testing it out.
Does this also work with the PODMICUSB? i have the same interface and everything, just the podmicusb and not the normal podmic. I dont get any sound into my interface with both components being connected via XLR. Can someone enlighten me?
Yes it does. Just ignore the USB side and connect it with XLR like you've done. There aren't any other steps. Make sure the firmware is updated on the Rode AI-1 and you have a good USB connection between the AI-1 and your computer - it should work exactly as shown in this video.
@@kettnercreative thanks for answering! Despite having everything connected the AI-1 still doesnt receive any sound, neither does my computer. I'm starting to think that the mic is broken because i dont get any sound at all, even if i connect my headphones to the Podmic directly or the mic with my pc via usbc. Not even with a usbc to usb adapter. Just Noise but no voice.
I still tend to find I get a buzz when the gain is turned up enough to get to the --15db sweetspot. It's really frustrating. It can really depend on the angle that my Podmic is positioned at, it's so strange.
Hey, did you ever figure out what was causing that buzzing for you? I have a Focusrite 2i2 3rd gen paired with the Podmic and get an electrical buzz. I noticed if I position the mic at a very specific angle it alleviates some of the buzzing.
I have the Ai 1 with the podmic and the 990 pro, when i connect the headphones to the Ai 1 my mic stopps working i can only use the mic or the headphones i think the Ai 1 can handle this i dont know why when i connect the headphones straight to the Computer it works fine.
