2024 update. Bought the adapter, updated to the latest version and the issue with stereo microphone (Sony ECM-LV1 in my case) connection in Stereo mode is still there. One of the channels is recorded very quietly. It also seems to me that the overall volume of the recording is very low (even with the levels set to max in RODE Central and in Microphone Properties in Windows) which makes the adapter not very practical when used during calls (zoom, google meet). Also received a response from the manufacturer: ----------------------------------------------------- I'm sorry to hear that only one channel is working in Stereo mode with your Stereo Lavalier connected to the AI-Micro. It's worth noting that this mode is designed for stereo microphones that don't need Plug in Power for both channels. However, in your case, it seems like your Stereo Lavalier requires plug-in power for both channels. I'll definitely share your feedback with the development team to ensure clearer instructions for this microphone in the future. For now, I suggest switching to Split Mode in the Reporter App and using a splitter cable like the one linked below to power and use the microphone. This method will ensure that plug-in power is working, and you'll have two separate channels for each microphone: SC11 Splitter Cable rode.com/en/accessories/adaptors-cables/sc11 I hope this information is helpful. If you have any more questions or need further clarification, please feel free to reach out. ----------------------------------------------------- The FAQ page does not contain any such information, which to me seems a bit misleading to users: "Does the AI-Micro supply plug-in power? The AI-Micro provides plug-in power (1-5v) for microphones like Lavaliers and VideoMic on-camera microphones" help.rode.com/hc/en-us/articles/6941459841167-Does-the-AI-Micro-supply-plug-in-power It seems to me that this can't be fixed by an update and seems to be a hardware issue. So pay attention if you need this functionality.
They replied to my emails with pretty much the same info about their splitter cable and were leaving the possibility to a software update fix open... I made a diy splitter cable as I had cable and connectors to build it. I don't think buying their cable is a good option as they should either add a FAQ line about stereo mics and plugin power limitation. By not adding that there they're not very honest with their users about what the thing can and can't do. For me it's working fine with the adapter and I even made one pigtail for the headphones so now it's like some kind of jack extension pack. The microphone level is great with it - same as my sony pcm-a10 and lumix s5. only difference is the rode ai-micro and the camera - s5 have a cutoff above 16khz. otherwise all the same. Between them I can't tell the difference. It's the only good option afaik to record with Stereo External Microphones with the mobile. I made a few videos about the interface on my Sony Xperia 1V working great having the DIY adapter This is the cable - really simple and should be able to find this at any shop but look for gold plated or at least yellow even if it's not gold plated at least it gives us peace of mind that it's not going to do any scratchy noises when moving. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ARlLi9y4KfI.html
I actually have the issue when feeding a line level stereo signal into channel 1 and choosing stereo, the left channel has more output than the right so I get unbalanced stereo. Very frustrating.
The easiest with this is to use a splitter cable from stereo going into 2 mono for each channel. Dual input and forget their marketing with stereo input 1. It might also be that your unit is bad so return it if it does that or contact rode support. Sending them samples helps a lot. I tested it with the headphone out from sony pcma10 and level was the same L+R on input 1.
thanks for uploading. I have the same problem, and i see, that it is already one year after you upload this. So they do nothing with the porblem? Or do you have some new info, if some update solve this? Thaks a lot.. good luck!
Thank you for uploading this issue. Now I'm worried about same issue on my ai-micro. I'm using Usi TRS Stereo microphone from LOM Audio. Did you actually solve this problem with TRS splitter cable? I'm now thinking about purchasing (or making) splitter cable.
Yeah strange how they could make it this way since any cheap portable recorder does provide plug in power on both channels in any stereo mode. Found a workaround by making a splitter / joiner cable - dual mono to stereo adapter.
@@IONHowTo It is stereo… I have audio split, however, left and right are exactly the same tracks :( it still merges the audio but duplicates it from left to right. I don’t know what to do.
@@vivianphillips768 I don't understand. Setting it to split and plugging in one mic capsule for each input 1+2 gives you a stereo recording. Check your cables. See the other videos about it in the sound playlist.
@@IONHowTo thanks man. I appreciate your help in the video. Basically it tells me it gives me a stereo, and I can split the tracks from left to right as one would be able to. However, the left and right tracks, even when split, contain the exact same audio information (both mics merged into one), even though they are 2 separate mics of course. Just posting in case anyone reads this later to see if it is a common bug or not.
@@vivianphillips768 not in headphones but in the actual recording? Check that in the interface settings it not set to merged and is set to split mode. Try to plug in separate mics in each one, not like I was testing it in the other videos. If it's the same return it / contact rode support.
