+freedoomed I'm in the exact same situation....I simply have to find a way to justify getting one. Recently picked up a Big Boy Steel Carbine in .45Colt and my wife and daughter LOVE shooting it. Maybe I can turn that into my wife's rifle and then I would of course need the 45-70......

I have a 45 LC big boy w/ octagonal barrel. smoothest action I have ever felt on any gun. Henry is a testament to the age old saying that You get what you pay for. You can feel the quality in your hands. It also is one of the last items to be truly made in America. So I urge those that are in the market for this kind of rifle to get out pick one up and support them for keeping that many more jobs in the U.S.A.

I'd love one of these in 30-30, with the pistol grip, and a side loading port. I don't know how the tube is faster in any way.
@droppinplates6665
@droppinplates6665 8 лет назад
the worst part of a lever action that loads on side is when you take it out hunting you dont always well really rarely ever empty your gun when out hunting so when you unload those live rounds it beats up the brass a little bit even loading in general through the side beats them up a little . Is fine at the range cause you put them in shoot them out but if your hunting all week loading and unloading you gun beats up your shells thats what makes this henry nice you put on in chamber then load and unload the tube not beating up any of them. I know my model 94 i only load 3 when hunting so i beat up less brass lol fun loading 8 at the range tho

I dream to get this one here in Slovakia. Not that I can't but it's quite expensive gun (not that much in comparison in US - 900 Euros). Recently, one guy was selling Henry Big Boy in .357 magnum (this one I want) for a great price but I was late :-(. I really, really like Winchester lever action guns. Yeah, vz 58 I own is fun to shoot but this one is my dream since I, as a kid, watched Sergio Leone's movies with Clint Eastwood :-)

+Chris Janes Both these rifle are legal here. Your main problem will be feeding them if you aren't a hand loader because "non-hunting" commercial (FMJ or lead round nose for example) ammo for those calibres is hard to come by near on impossible. The Henry Big Boy is available here in the brass "bling" version and the new-ish steel version too. :)

From the time I was 6 years old I carried my grandmother's 30-30 Winchester and killed my first deer with it when I was 12. I continued to hunt with that gun until l was robbed and the gun was stolen, never saw it again. So when I moved to GA in 96 I bought a Marlin.30-30, I used that for hunting until 2016 when I decided to buy a bolt action rifle in 308. I'm 61 years old now and fir many years the 30-30 was all I new. Really a great gun though.

I have to ask a question that has been bugging me...Why do you say you have to rack the action to empty each round on traditional lever guns? I've had an old Marlin .30-30 for more years than I care to count and I've never emptied it that way. When I was a kid my grandfather, an old west Texas rancher, told me to push in the side gate and the round will pop back and out into your hand. I grew up thinking that was how everyone emptied their lever-guns until I started researching Henry's .45-70. For me pushing the gate for each round has become second nature and fast. It is also a quick way to change rounds I'm wanting to shoot mid string like if one has a pump shotgun and switching back and forth between slugs, buckshot, cut shells, and shot shells. Of course the round in the chamber does require the action to be worked to clear it, but that's the only one. Thanks for the feedback.

i am in the UK. I have got a Henry 45/70 brass 22" barrel on order from the US. It will be used just for target shooting at a max of 110 yards. I'm old, 73 so my eyes are not at their best. I want to mount an inexpensive scope but obviously one that can reliably take the recoil. By inexpensive I'm thinking in the region of $300. Would you be so kind as to give me some guidance. There are so many different makes and models all, purporting to be the marksman's dream come true.

Sootch, I know you're a busy man...I have seen so many of the lever action rifles i.e Marlin vs. Henry. Hey Sootch, if you have a round in chamber when unloading that tube do not have your hand in front of that muzzle. Have the action open. Several times your hand was in front of that muzzle. Just saying. Don't ever say your momma never warned you. :o)
@l84cabo
@l84cabo 8 лет назад
Shoot! (pun intended) Henry is making it harder and harder for me to ignore them. But I just can't get past the tube magazine. I hate tube magazines. No way could you use those guns for home defense or any other situation that required you to quickly reload. Can you load through the ejection port at all in a pinch if you had to? I know this is "their thing," but I really wish they would make a line of rifles with a side loading gate. It sure looks nice though. Hmmmm.
@nokoolaid
@nokoolaid 8 лет назад
Looks like a copy of a Marlins sans the side loading gate and minus the hammer block safety the Marlin's use. I have a 444 Marlin I bought new in 1982, which is pre-hammer block safety. Anyway, I shoot handloads that are 265 grain hornady's at about 2300 fps muzzle. I have a 1-4x Leupold on it and from a bench, 5 shot groupings are .75-1" at 100 yards. Do the Henry's shoot that well? Since Remington took over Marlin, the quality has suffered and they discontinued the 444 and 450 Marlin.
@tommytruth7595
@tommytruth7595 8 лет назад
Henrys will shoot that well and the quality is better than today's Marlins.
@nokoolaid
@nokoolaid 8 лет назад
My 444 is a 1982 model. Unless Henry comes out with that caliber, I doubt I'd buy one, at least not not the 45-70 or 30-30. From what I've seen online, the don't soot as well as mine, but neither do the remlins.

Anyone with a Henry 30-30 know if the lever still drops a bit if you let go of it after chambering a round? An early video shows when this happens, you have to eject the chambered round before it will fire.

Those are still priced too high. You can get the Marlin 1895 in FULL Stainless, not chrome plated as the Henry is, and they cost about $600.00 NIB. I would pick the Marlin over the Henry any day of the week. Yes they are now made by Remington, but at 100 yards, they shoot 1/2" groups. Just wadded holes, with a scope.

this is a great new product. but I am still waiting for a Henry with stainless steel and synthetic stock. also why didn't they start this product with the 357 caliber? isnt the 357 the most popular caliber for lever?
@8654ZuluFoxtrot
@8654ZuluFoxtrot 8 лет назад
+Will Yeah The 357 caliber is popular only because people match up their lever gun with their revolver and bit of savings on the cost of the rounds. The reason Henry went with the 30-30 and 45-70 is because of the intent of this particular version, for hunting, as they are all-weather finishes.
@dattape2828

I'm sorry but I prefer the looks and loading process of the Winchester and Marlin lever guns. The absence of a loading gate on the receiver just looks...wrong.
