Great comparison & awareness that the fact you did drop 3k on the Neumann might (or might not affect) your appreciation of the "classic" mic. I've had two Rode NT-1's since the early 90's. Great for at home recording vox and acoustic instruments. I'm tempted to buy the iconic Neumann, but it seems any subtle differences between the Rodes and the more expensive mics wash away in the mixing. To a great extent. Thanks again

First of all, holy crap you're a good rapper. I really grooved with you. Secondly, I didn't know that Neumann U87 was THAT much better. I can really hear the difference, as I own the NT1 myself, I'm not biased. 3000usd difference? That can be discussed, but I do think that it has the edge of making a full production sounding more professional, and in the end making it worthwhile. Making an AB test, one can say "yeah it's not that much different", but when you slap it in a mix, having to make it sit, I think the U87 wins way ahead.. I'm struggling to mix my tenor voice properly with the nt1, because it has this cheap boxy sound to it. It's not bad, but it's not even close to the U87 I think..
I just bought 2nd hand the nt1 5th gen, and I started googling the performance. so far, with my deaf ears I cannot seehear the difference between the classic neumann and the rode. maybe it's the youtube compression and coloration that takes away the quality. but what do I know??
@@BrooklynsagemusicI away come back to tell people, plug them in, Rode will sound better, run them both though hardware, everybody in my studio goes for the U87 ai easy, hands down.
@@realtalkroscoeg so what you mean is that when ran thru hardware preamps and compressors the u87 sounds much better? yet just by themselves the nt1 “sounds better”?
complete waste of time trying to review mics with just spoken voice. First test should be an acoustic guitar. Some instruments with some actual frequency range to it.
