and almost forgot to mention - Will Kimbrough is outstanding!!! One of the very nicest guys you're likely to come across in any walk of life, and while I love Steuart Smiths playing, Will fits the newer Rodney Crowell material like a glove.
Love Rodney. Never gets the credit. This is just an outstanding live performance. Rodney is perfect, that guitarist is unbelievable. The tone, the feel, the 2 part fill. The solos just grab you and won't let go.. Great album...
Possibly the best Americana/rock song to come out since the categories first became intertwined. Brilliant socio-political-Bukowski-middle finger to mainstream lyric. Undeniable groove. Visceral mix. All the right shit. The video was pulled from youtube for some reason and its just as well produced as the song...grainy, raw, well cast...wish there was a way to see it again.
Rodney Crowell I'm a big fan of your music it was like yesterday that you came to Lubbock Texas and I took my high school Ex Girlfriend Monica Pena to the Concert let Mr. Crowell and May 1st is my 35th Birthday.
Thank you for sharing!! I saw them all (except the awesome Marcia Ramirez on keyboards/vocals) at the Germantown, TN Performing Arts Center (GPAC) on this tour as well. Talk about lightning in a bottle that night!! They put on a clinic of what it means not only to be professional musicians but true artists. That magical night 2 rows from the chemistry is forever etched in my mind, and this 40-something drummer stole a lot of licks from that young, long-haired groove machine Mr. Landry too!
Remember this and CMT talking to me again when this came out while in Petaluma of Sonoma County in 2004, along mama please send money.... 1994 was CMT really talking to me. Like overflowing forces that were flooded and shattered away as jungle love romance blew up in my face.
We Didn't Start the Fire immediately came to my mind. As for the references, you may be too young. I'm pushing 70 and they all bring back memories and terminology of my age.
He's talking about kin Star, Bill Clinton hold deal,,, going on at the time,, Guess some of you are a little young to know what all he's talking about.
Great, thanks. I'm uploading another hot version from Dublin w/a great Will Kimbrough solo as a soundtrack to my latest "flower riffs" video. He sure puts together great touring bands, doesn't he?
Had the unbelievable pleasure of seeing Rodney and the band live a couple of years ago and it blew me away - brilliant live show and without question the finest I'm ever likely to see. Does anyone know who's playing bass at this show? Is it Dennis Belfield?
@maingenieros Will Kimbrough's (Will and the Bushmen, Daddy) the guitarist. Saw him in Rodney's band at Merlefest the year "The Outsider" came out. Very good player and topical writer - His newest solo album "Wings" just came out.
can anybody help I wonder? A friend told me he heard Rodney maybe 20 years ago and he sang a song about the Bogside, Derry and the IRA Hunger Strikes. Does anybody know what it might be or where I might listen to it?
music man 210 amp on stage will still be working when the aliens take earth back rodney was playing music mans all the way back to the hot band in the 70's along with albert lee...god bless music man amps
