i love everything about this video. the michael jackson song, his wu tang shirt, the fact that its 94, the fact that its lost footage, rare freestyle run of rodney during his street career. never seen this before!

The thing I love about this video is it shows how you can be amazing and not land every trick every time. People get so used to skate videos where the 53rd take is the one used and think you suck when you mess up skating in real life but it's about those fails too. If Rodney Mullen can mess up so can any skater.

The most beautiful thing about this video is you realize the way his style adopted more to what we know as street skating. Skating was becoming something different in the 90’s and at this point there was more to skating than freestyle. He had a more aggressive and street style

It's actually kind of nice to see him mess up sometimes. Just so we know he's actually a human haha.

Я помню, в середине 2000-х профаки приезжали уже даже командами (на стене до сих пор автографы парней из circa висят, хотя давно не катаюсь). Изредка в видео мелькали российские места в конце 90-х начале 2000-х. Но чтобы они приезжали так рано в Россию не знал, да еще не абы кто а сам Батя аж в 94-м и в Питер. И все это без интернетов и игр про Хоука на ps1. Жесть. Как они его туда затащили?)

Heard about this run, there was not so much people, and Rodney was upset, he was a legend already in the US. In Russia we just started to learn what a skateboarding is😄 after his run in SPB local guys received so powerful shot of motivation and inspiration that sb started to grow fast.

this is legitimately the first video i see of rodney, where he seems somewhat human.

We had to go to Russia to find a video that prooves that he is actually human and bails too from time to time. What an absolute legend!

This is awesome. Seeing Mullen again Brings me back to my highschool skateboarding days. I watched so many Skate videos. And my go to reading was CCS skating magazine lol. Mullen, Muska, Campbell, Burnquist, Lasek, Glifberg, Reynolds!!! Few more I can't seem to remember right now. Jamie Thomas I think. Man it was so long ago. I thot I was so cool cuz I could double kickflip lol. Only thing I was good at was not losing my skills during the winter. Awesome times.

This guy is a God for skateboarding. Mullen is the most dedicated, loyalist, compassionate, skater ever. Rock on dude. I wish I could meet this guy some day.

I think Mullen was being humble and not trying to completely annihilate everybody else at that contest. I mean, I'm sure he still did, but I think he probably just wanted to show the kids there that even he bails tricks. Because it would have been hard for a lot of them to access skate videos; most of what they saw was probably magazines. Skateboarding equipment was very difficult to come by in Russia at that time. There was a severe economic collapse after the Soviet Union fell only a few years before this footage was shot. A lot of people in Russia were using hokey pucks glued together for wheels, and the boards were not made from maple, and were mostly pressed with very basic equipment. There was a great On video documentary about it. It's on youtube, somewhere. Pretty sure that same video documents a tour of Russia that Mullen and some other skaters like Kenny Reed were on. I think that trip was in a Slap magazine article; one of those mags during the early 00's.

Very rare performance and strange video. Nothing into primo, no darkslide, no manual combos, people are not realizing anything. Lots of amazing tricks, and absolutely so hard to be landed (.. for the first time in the history in addition..). Have you ever tried a pop shov-it late kickflip ? In those years, with Rodney, the free style skating was becoming street skating! Thanks for sharing this footage.
