As a Colombian neuroscientist I can certainly say Dr Llinas is a giant, an inspiration a hero. I would love to have a good conversation with him

Tiempo perdido. Feliz día.

Enjoyed the interview. Llinas looks like "Daniel Kahneman" of neuroscience. Will certainly read "I of the vortex". It looks like Llinas anticipated the work on active inference.

Happy to hear that. It's a great book. The great thing about pioneers is they see things in their proper context, sliding effortlessly between physical, evolutionary, computational, psychological and phenomenal considerations, and not shying from big words like death, consciousness and free will. Lovely to listen to someone who is not afraid to see the whole mystery as interconnected and at the same time always innocently asking simple "why" questions without any limits to joyously understand more.

Best quotes: 13:40 "You either move or drool" 14:00 "Thinking is a pre-motor act" 34:00 Why do you climb the mountain? You do it because you have no choice. 38:34 "Well, what happened? (moved foot inwards instead of outwards) Well, I changed my mind." LOL 43:40 "The more we learn about each other, the more we would like each other." 47:20 "Why do I need to pray?" 47:40 "Why do I have to say you are great and I am small? ... The answer is he is very powerful and you are nothing. Okay, I understand that, but I don't think I agree with it." 50:00 "We are okay as we are, we can forgive ourselves for being." 1:11:15 "The problem with philosophers is that they love to talk about the problems, but not solving them"

Wonderful, these quotes! And I also like: 39:31 "We take possession of something that is not ours" 44:35 About scientists and in essence, about humans: "the more they understand something, ...., the more there is a feeling of being a part of something.

Hi CLains, do you know where can i find scientific articles from Llinás?
@CPLains
@CPLains 10 лет назад
You can find most scientific articles by searching his name on Google Scholar. If you're looking for something related to what he's talking about here, I recommend his book "I of the Vortex: From Neurons to Self."

Rodolfo, what you say about religion is true. Especially when you said the more you understand something the more you love it and feel a part of it. I challenge you, have you read all of Jesus' words in the Bible? If so is he insane or evil or is he who he said he is? Is there a forth choice? As you yourself said, "If I really understand another human being as well as physically possible that individual becomes more interesting to me." This is how it is with Jesus. We don't talk to him to get things but to get to know Him. Could you love someone whose writings you love? I know I do. I hope the best for you. Thank you for seeking the truth!

That inward foot movement is nonsense. It simply proves you can control movement by external means, by coil in this example. Coil simply overrides your will. The moment you remove the coil the foot moves the way you want it to.
@CPLains
@CPLains 3 года назад
Yes, and it shows that when externally caused, it can still *feel* like we caused it (if his first person description is accurate). If so we might not be able to tell the difference between our own actions and those caused say, by a remote-controlled chip in our brain.
