No OLED, and on top of that, the smallest screen of all the top handhelds its a deal breaker.

No, VRR is much needed feature for APUs such as the Z1 where power and performance is at a premium.

I will keep my Ally. The Z1 extreme is great for the things I need to do. Only times I use ROG ally is when 1) travel 2) indie games 2d/2.5d titles (FIST, Eiyuden, etc etc) 3) emulation 4) simple online games on the go (COD, NFS, SF6) 5) Windows machine on the go for quick checks

Steam Deck OLED does all that, but miles better uwu Also how're you supposed to play Online games "on the go"? Trees don't have WiFi, public WiFi is a HUGE risk without a VPN, and the overall connection from mobile hotspots and whatever would just be terrible for you and others. Wouldn't you be at a massive disadvantage in those games? Using a controller in CoD is bad enough, but on a 7" display, a wireless connection, and probably not even at full 120fps?

Id trade an oled screen for VRR ANY day, people dont realize how necessary VRR is for playing games that drastically jump in fps

Not getting the new one as ally is capable device. I don’t have battery issue as I mostly use it in bed with power switch right next to me. Oled not a fan as burn in is real my Nintendo oled has burn in after a year of usage.

Though it can be adjusted, someone didn't tell the presenters VRR by default doesn't kick-in until 48 FPS or higher.

Didn’t know that EZG thanks for sharing - yes weird the presenters didn’t know as they specifically mentioned VRR working on games at 45fps hmm…

You can set it for 30fps or even less. Just use CRU.

The Ally's screen supports LFC (low framerate compensation) below 48fps. So VRR still works below 48fps. Most modern gaming monitors also have this feature.

OLED is nothing special and is unnecessary for handhelds. It is a useless gimmick. The IPS 120Hz screen is already perfect for the ALLY series and doesn't need anything else. The IPS screen is crisp, clear, and doesn't have the bad parts of OLED such as burn in and added heat. So Asus actually did something SMART for once and did not put in a useless OLED screen. Well done Asus.

I will stick to my current ally but I am happy, that they did not change to OLED. The "burn-in" is a big issue for me.. my friends has a steam deck OLED and already minor burn in after a few months. Less bazel wouls be amazing though.

An OLED would have helped this alrdy over-spec'd, power-inefficient device *tremendously* I think even with the ROG Ally X's 80Whr battery, it still won't even match the Steam Deck OLED in overall playtime. Neck and Neck at best Steam Deck/OLED outperforms any other PC handheld at low wattages. What takes Steam Deck/OLED 6W/7W, will take ROG Ally/X like 11W-12W+. 6W/7W is around 8h-8h30m playtime on Deck's 50Whr. 11W/12W on an 80Whr battery is still less than 8 hours (7.2h or less)

I'm not a fan of OLED at all (QLED Master Race), but OLED is the best possible choice of display for a battery powered device. It's a very power efficient display, easiest on the battery, and can be made very thin I think OLED should be standard, honestly. Having an OLED variant option off release would be great

@@cqllel5186 Good luck with Burn In 🤣 IPS is the best for this Device they last long Many OLED smartphone have the same issue we all know that Smartphone manufacturers push this "OLED" screen to lower the lifespan of their devices and force their customers to upgrade because that's exactly whats the "Economy" of this Smartphone Manufacturer are pushing!!! We don't want that on Handheld!!! Maybe they can Launch two different Variants like what they did on Loptop like High end laptops had OLED and Budget have IPS!!! But Selling Only OLED in Handheld is a Bad idea!!!

This is a gaming device. If no VRR forget and just get a Nintendo switch or steam deck as you are not a pc gamer.

Steam Deck is still a PC. VRR should be a standard with PC gaming, but it really doesn't matter in the slightest with handheld gaming. Especially if you're playing under 48fps. It's just extremely picky
