Jesus what an amazing guide. Never done any emulation stuff with old games before and now I've got a Rog Ally I fancied giving it a go and this video was easy to follow. Cheers.
I try my best to make every single tutorial as easy and accessible as I possibly can so your encouragement means so much, happy retro gaming finney! 🤩🕹️
bro I can't thank you enough, I've been trying to emulate gba on my new Rog ally x and I couldn't figure out why the built in controller wasn't registering in MGBA. Turns out I needed to set control mode to gamepad in the control centre. Had no idea and out of sheer luck your 2 second clip helped me haha
Very helpful video done setting this on legion go. Sold my ally on Facebook for 240 plus guy gave me PlayStation portal only a month old with receipt. Now keeping an eye on curry’s eBay account as they keep dropping open boxed deals for ally and ally x.
Thanks Andy! Yes it does get very confusing and that’s why I wanted to clarify in the vid that EmuDeck is the ‘backend’ in setting it all up, and Emulation Station is the ‘front end’ we use to launch our games, happy retro gaming! 🤩
Great video, super helpful! One tip - if you have a PC or laptop with a MicroSD card reader, I personally found managing the files there instead of on the smaller screen of the Ally X much easier.
Hey u should make sure that people backup their old save files before setting this up IF they had emulation saves before getting emudeck! This happened to me personally as you know but yeah Ive seen other guides on this and none are as straightforward as this, good stuff pete
Already covered in a recent vid Visionary! 👇 ROG Ally: Factory Reset & Emulation Backup Guide ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2TlUIkPl1bE.html Thanks bud, always want to make these tutorials as easy and accessible as possible so your encouragement means a lot Visionary! 🙌
it wont let me download the Bios for some reason, im trying to download them from the website and they just send me to a site that wont load and it wont start the download for the file?? anything you suggest to fix this?
I still say the Steam Decks 16:10 aspect ratio OLED screen is the far superior choice for Emulation of systems upto the Gamecube/PS2/Wii & WiiU era. The games scale far better on that ratio than they do on a 16:9 screen. System designed mostly for 4:3 ratio televisions will give far nicer results when using Emulator scaling options.
Guys can someone please help me… I did everything but when I play GameCube games on the dolphin. No buttons work besides the start button all other buttons don’t do anything… idk what to do I can’t find a tutorial on how to fix the buttons
Retroarch is somewhat nerfed if you use emudeck/emulationstation, the glslang shaders don’t work and you can’t save certain core or global options. If you don’t care about that stuff then yeah definitely use emudeck, but if you like to tinker with your game settings then I definitely recommend you install retroarch separately and run it independently from emudeck/emulationstation
Good Video, one thing that keeps bothering me , in bios checker , all of the firmware is green , except nintendo switch, ryujinx working fine, but bios checker keep mention file missing in red, please help
Have ya put the keys into the ryujinx keys folder? Also also imported the firmware from a XCI file from within ryujinx into the ‘Install Firmware’ area? Doing both of these should fix it!
I’ve done a dedicated vid re. sound settings on the Ally, check it out Kevin! 👇 ROG Ally X: How to FIX the QUIET SPEAKERS ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bcDaz4Z69Dg.html
im having issues with my controls when playing. whenever i press a it does a screenshot and whenever i press b it pauses the game how do i fix this? Edit: nevermind i figured it out by resetting the configs on emudeck
Hey Ben, it should take no more than 5 mins to install so something is going wrong somewhere... have you tried installing to the main C drive instead of an SD card (which made mine glitch out too)?
I watched your video . Love it , I’m not savvy I wish I could have you do that for me , I’d love to be able to play old games . You used the micro sd card , right ? Can you use one and put it in a different system to play ? I would buy one and send to you if you could do that . And pay you of course ?
Glad you like the vid chuckday! I don’t offer this service unfortunately, you don’t have to use an sd card, you can install EmuDeck to the Ally’s C drive - I’d recommend just taking your time, watch the vid step by step and pause, once it ‘clicks’ and you figure it out it will be very easy so all the best with it! 🙌
Everything is set up. However, the key mapping for the controller is not working. For example, in Sonic 2 I can't jump, and A pauses the game, while b exits ES... Please help
man I followed this guide EXACTLY down to the tee , just like this video. But whatever game I launch it just goes to a blank screen. I got the correct rom and bios. Can someone please help
Perhaps try restarting Ally, and try retro sims like snes first to see if they work before trying the more modern ones that need bios.. hope you get it working lek!
@@PeteTalksTech thanks I found the problem and solution. Only weird thing is it’s abit slow and buggy especially when I try close a game it just freezes my whole system. Maybe it didn’t install properly or something but turned off using it.
Did you download EmuDeck from the link in the vid? Perhaps check it’s the version in the vid, I think mine is 3.03? As long as it has Parse and Save to Steam options it should be ok 👍
Hello I got up to the emulation station section! When I enter rom directory path nothing happens even tho it’s the correct path (same as on video as I have an SD card also) anyone got any ideas where I’m going south? Iv also only downloaded ps2 roms if that helps
Hi and thanks for the video. I am having a problem where the hotkeys arnt what they say they are. If I do select +RB or LB, they both try to move selected save slot not save or load. Any ideas?
I haven’t experienced this Cycalo - have ya set in Command Centre to Gamepad instead of Auto or Desktop in Control Mode? If so any viewers have any ideas?
@@PeteTalksTech Hi Pete thanks for answering, I figured it out! So I was launching EmulationStation DE through steam as i first thought I had to do this. Then from your video you were launching it from windows directly through AC. When i was launching it through steam it was conflicting the steam input keybinds to the emulators.
So how do you get ps1 and ps2 games to play? The bios checker for menis green, i download the ps1 games and its a .bin cue file, it shows up but doesn't launch, do we have to convert those to iso?
How much space do I need to have to install Emudeck and all the rooms? Also should I even attempt to use the SD card reader on my OG Ally. I bought it brand new in December.
Great questions Lee, EmuDeck app itself is very small, and ROMs depend on the system - earlier ones like snes are barely any storage, more recent like GameCube is quite a bit more… Personally I wouldn’t recommend using the sd card on the OG Ally unfortunately… 😪
Thanks Lee! Attempt an SD card? I recommend not using one on the OG Ally… 😪 If you are able at some point I’d highly recommend the Ally X, check out my new review! 👇 ROG Ally X: 4 Week HONEST Review ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7bdeL7megOg.html
I have emudeck installed, but when I try to run the emudeck app on the desktop it wants me to go through the whole setup process again even though it's already installed, will this mess anything up if I go through it again
It won’t - make sure when we’ve placed our roms to open with the front end called Emulation Station as shown at the end of the vid - that’s how we play all our games, as EmuDeck is the backend just to set up Emulation Station 👍
Follow the steps closely - Ryujinx uses XCI game file (there may be some roms that don’t work but many do so experiment) and Yuzu is done differently as shown in my new Switch vid (vid is done for SteamOS but is same way when doing it in Windows) - let us know how ya get on Reece! 👍
Nope! Just use the web browser on the Ally X (my fave esp for ROMs is Brave), download to Downloads folder then simply move into the correct system folder eg snes 👍
I'm having a hell of a time with the controlls in retroarch. When I press A it will also take a screenshot and when i press left and right it will toggle between save states. I have tried auto, desktop, and gamepad and it does the same thing. Is there a way to fix this? This was never an issue on my steam deck.
Hey blades, did you follow all the steps exactly in the vid? If so and you’ve selected Gamepad then it should work perfect, no idea why this is happening 🤷♂️
Hi, thanks for the amazing video guide. However I did encounter a problem when trying to launch Emulation Station DE from my Armory Crate. All games that I try just don't seem to respond to any of my Ally buttons. Yes, it was on gamepad mode. After some reading I think we need to launch everything from steam so the emulators use steam input. Is this not your case? Were you able to play the games fine when launching the ES-DE from Armory Crate? Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed the Guide Coffee! Yes all my buttons seemed fine after doing all the steps incl. Parsing and Saving the games in Steam Rom Manager… Hope you manage to fix!
@PeteTalksTech hi there! Thanks for replying. I ended up setting up my emulators manually, since I don't have that many I want to play. I just use the ES-DE front-end for all emulators and launch them from Armory Crate with my own personal hotkeys and power profile. Quite a hassle setting it up, since I need to check the command prompts and everything, but it's all good now. My only gripe is that I have to manually add Yuzu configs on ES-DE, but there's a lot of them online so I just copy paste.
It should defo take less than say 15 mins… it also got stuck because my sd card d drive I selected to install on already had my emulation folder from my old Ally and this made it hang for me too so selecting the C drive to install to resolved this (I didn’t include this in vid as didn’t want to confuse new 1st time installers)
Tried installing my first game to test ( sonic mega ) the control scheme don’t seem right as like b button pauses, another screenshots and one jumps. Am I doing something super wrong?
@@PeteTalksTech champion,I’m pretty new to this and so far anything that don’t need bios is pretty easy. Not a fan of my steam cluttered with the emulators though but maybe that’s just my ocd!!!
If you go to All Apps in Windows, go to the EmuDeck folder, open the DS emulator called MelonDS, and there should be settings options where you can configure how you want the layout of the DS screens 👍
Any viewers may be able to add to my advice, but if pressing select and start buttons at same time doesn't work, I just press the End Task button in Command Centre to take us out of a game, happy retro gaming Franco! 🙌
I followed all your steps but Dolphin is not recognizing my gamepad. The only button that works is the start button. I'm launching games through ES. ES recognizes the gamepad, but Dolphin does not, any ideas how to solve it?
Perhaps in Windows go to All Apps, click on the EmuDeck folder, and go into Dolphin directly, and on the top in settings there should be an option to configure gamepad.. My Wii and GameCube games work directly launching within EmuDeck so there shouldn’t be any issues, so make sure the Control Mode in Command Center is set to Gamepad and not Desktop or Auto 👍
@@PeteTalksTech Great! thanks! worked! One last question, my Yuzu is not working, looks like it hasn't been installed as the folder is partially empty. Has it been discontinued?
Development has been discontinued but it should still work, I happened to cover it in a recent vid! 👇 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_rLOErvrPIg.htmlsi=6YksCculnW3fSI3S
Hi I have a question that i wanted to know very long time and no one responded to me:( My question is: Can i install the EmuDeck on my SD card and have all of the roms on the SD card? Because i wanted to have 2 separate SD cards One for triple A games that have more gbs And the other one for the retro emulation so that i can have SOOO MUCH GAMES XD So Can i do it? Can i eject the SD card and put the SD card with the AAA games ? And if i put back the SD card with retro games, will it work? And will work the AAA games that are installed on the SD card? Just asking if i should buy the other SD card because i dont want to spend so much money on 1 tb sd card xD I already asked on reddit but no one responded to me
Hey gong, YES this will work! As I show in the vid, we just select the drive to install on so D Drive for the SD card, and we can place all our roms here in the roms folder, then if you want to just swap out the SD card… I have all my retro roms on D drive and all my AAA games on my 1TB internal SSD on Ally X and works perfectly 👍
So my roms are working and I have my controller set to game pad but in some of my games it’s pausing it or taking screen grabs when mashing buttons. Is there a fix?
I’ve tried this and have it set as that but the buttons for example Batman snes the controls are working but taking screen shots when jumping and pausing when throwing things.
Hmm my controls work great without any further configuration - perhaps look into the settings of EmuDeck (and also within settings of the systems like zsnes for the snes emulator) to see if you can configure in there…
Step 7 I didn’t use a sd card I have space on my rog ally X .It doesn’t can’t find no files even if I retype the file where the roms is at .Do I have to have games installed first for step 7 to work ?
help me please... i cant find the nintendo switch firmware eventhough i place some of i download in net in bios folder it always says nintendo switch firmware missing i dont know what to do it is the only one missing please help😢
Great question Yusei! Yes in Emulation / ROMs/ then the system you want eg SNES, there’s a text doc file called ‘systeminfo’, click on this and in the ‘supported file extensions’ section it shows what files are supported 👍
@@PeteTalksTech ahh cool, always been hard finding those types of things. i'm just really considering even the regular Ally Tomorrow, but i'm really not sure,.
If you’re on a budget and don’t game very much then Ally is great, if you game loads and can stretch out the extra money for the Ally X then defo do that… stay tuned for my full review of the Ally X coming at the weekend! 👀
@@PeteTalksTech even though ordered the regular, i'll still watch, just it wasn't cheap new here in Australia, had to fork out like 1,299.95 i believe.
Sorry man, but I’m lazy. I don’t want to do 8 steps to get retro games on my Ally. I’d rather just buy a game like Star Wars Bounty Hunter on the Steam app. Helpful vid though. Hope you have a great day.
