yeh i agree with this pretty much... as owner of both myself i think the Ally X does enough to be the better all around system. Before the X i would give it to the deck OLED, the battery blew away the original ally and general setup was more to my liking but the X puts it a step ahead again, mainly with that battery and i kind of prefer the screen overall aswell, i feel like resolution has a bigger impact across more games than just being OLED where that mainly shines in a dark environment. If it was 1080p OLED, no competition, but at 800p i do think its pretty easy to pick out examples where it looks rough in comparison. fair comparison in the end.
Owning both a Steam Deck OLED and a Legion Go I won't be buying another device with a screen smaller than 8". I like the Ally X's specs but a 7" screen is a non-starter for me moving forward. I'm not giving up my touchpads either. Hopefully the Legion Go 2 will have more memory, a bigger battery and a better control layout.
I feel you! My favourite device has a much larger sceen and that's what I prefer. I also think the Ally 2 will need a bigger battery if it wants to compete with future devices.
@@BarelyAverageDude Yeah, my ideal device has SteamOS, the Steam Deck's controls, the Legion Go's screen and kickstand, and the Ally's memory and battery. Can't give up the Legion Go's screen...I use it as a portable computer in desktop mode all the time (Linux). Modding isn't as easy as Windows but it's still doable. I modded Cyberpunk 2077 on the Go with FSR3 frame gen and I'm getting great frame rates under Linux too (100fps at 800p and it still looks great).
@@Invid72that sounds awesome! My hot take is that I actually don’t hate windows on handhelds (and I’m a Mac user) I just don’t think it’s as hard to use as people say. Anything I want to do is like 2-3 clicks away and the power user stuff is usually more accessible than on Linux. 😅🤷🏽♂️
@@BarelyAverageDude That's fair. My gaming desktop runs Linux and my other machine is a Mac. The only machine I had left that ran Windows was my Legion Go until I removed it for Linux only. I don't hate Windows either but I'm not a fan of Windows 11 (especially not on a handheld). Cheers brother.
@@BarelyAverageDude I've been saying the same thing for ages. I get sick of reviewers listing windows as a negative, when they are reviewing a windows based gaming handheld. Problems with windows are vastly exaggerated. Notifications can be reduced. One thing I always do is turn off the windows driver updates (reduces windows overwriting the manufacturer drivers). Other than that it's so easy to fire up a game and play. I've deliberately not done my usual tweaks on the Ally X (other than the driver update one) and i've been gaming for days with barely any problems.
Regardless of what anyone say about the ROG ally screen vs OLED. Ally screen is still undeniably good and has more features than the OLED and is more capable
I much prefer the Ally X screen to my Deck Oled screen. I was looking at games side by side and Ally X just has far more detail while still haveing beautiful colors. Its much smoother too .
Totally agree. I love that the Deck has OLED, but I don’t really play on it because the lower resolution and clarity. The deck fans will probably sue me, but I can’t lie to my eyes
@@BarelyAverageDude yeah but we are being truthful as we have used or own both . No point in us pretending . I have some really great OLED screens in my house and you know what the Ally screen rivals any of them - it's hard to explain but it's really a top top screen despite not being OLED. You could have told me it was OLED and I would have believed you because the colours are beautiful. You have to see it to believe it .Also with the resolution - I was originally one of the ones that thought 1080p wouldn't make a big difference over 800p on a small screen but boy was I wrong . Things are so much sharper at 1080 p...
It’s no comparing… the Rog ally gives you triple A games at decent frame rate some 60fps, easier to emulate Nintendo games over to it , more customization due to Linux limitations. I could go on
@@JudahiamKng I personally don’t use the steam deck much because I want more power and a higher resolution, but you have to remember that different gamers have different wants/needs.
I had the og ally and tried the ally x. I still like the oled better. Windows on a hand held is so janky. I’m a oled snob and can not go back to lcd. I went though 2 Rog ally x and they both had an issue with the left trigger and one of them had dead pixels .
For me it's got to be the Ally X - I've barely touched any of my other handhelds since getting it. I do miss the big screen of my Legion Go but not as much I initially thought - but can crack out the Viture Pro XR glasses if i want a bigger screen.
I haven't used either, that being the first models, or the updated units, but after much research and looking in to all handheld PC's, my OLED SD is due later today. The positives the Ally brings to the table don't really movie my needle, the games you need Windows for I don't personally play, and battery life of the first units were enough for me, as I never game past 90 mins in any situation. The power of the Ally can't be denied, but neither can ASUS and their poor customer service, which in all honesty seems to border on criminal. I'm also a player that doesn't need 60fps on every game I play, as 30-40 is more than fine for me most of the time. So yeah, my vote will be for the Deck, but I could see owning the Ally if it was cheaper, has a better main OS than Windows, and if it ever gets the warranty repairs under control, instead of scamming paying customers. I'm sure the Ally 2 and Steam Deck 2 will come to market in a close time frame to one another, so the future will be interesting for sure.
@@evilcrashbandicootthetouho2753 that’s due to how the camera captures the screen, it looks good in person. That being said, the glossy version would not get bonus points because all the specs are still the same.
i much much prefer the Ally Dpad, with it being proper 8 way its far easier to roll and transition between directions, games like street fighter 6 are significantly nicer to play on the Ally with D-pad while on deck i honestly would just go analogue stick. also side scrollers i find much easier to play walking up and down the screen feels more comfortable as you just roll your thumb.
Ally X is better and it's not even a competition. It plays all your PC games rather than just some of your games. It's funny how PC gamers now pretend they don't know how to use Windows which they used for their gaming PCs for the last 10, 15, 20 years.
Yeah, I think what are seeing now is the steam Deck is bringing non PC gamers to the PC so the problem seems overblown. 🤷🏽♂️ That or PC gamers really miss their mouse and keyboard.
keep in mind steam deck oled has insane pwm flicker that can cause eye strain and headaches i just got mine on monday and im returning it today because of that
@@gamesmoviesandtechclipshd2570 the world isn’t ready for that conversation. Kun remains my favourite handheld. I think ppl think I’m biased at this point 😅🤷🏽♂️ Not sponsored
Wouldn't thank you for another one of those trash windows handhelds, I have the z1 extreme og and boy oh boy that thing and all it's windows bugs is absolutely trash, anyone on the fence go with the deck oled, I'm back playing my deck lcd and it's hassle free gaming, just pulled the trigger on the 1tb oled ya 😁.
The Steamdeck is highly overrated I’m not sure how any “ Gamer” will choose an underpowered device over the other one when the other one can play most triple A games with no issues on decent battery life. I get it the OLED is nice but end of the day I want to game
@@SADBOY-xu8ib as someone who needs to get into the weeds to setup everything I use on PC I’m in desktop mode very often in the initial stages. But that’s the thing, once everything is set up on windows you don’t have to be outside Armour crate much either. AC handles most updates like drivers and bios etc. So I really don’t see the hype behind hating windows on the Ally. Seems overblown. If you say the icons are too small for a touchscreen, make them larger or use the mouse mode; it’s not that difficult to navigate and I’m primarily a Mac user.
