Roger Chapman Live at RockPalast 1998 

Ian Hunter and Roger Chapman have been the two rock go-tos of my life. Which is maybe a little strange as their music really has virtually nothing in common except unique voices and authenticity. Oh, and incredible songs - hundreds of them. Ian Hunter is a superb frontman. His shows are electric. Roger Chapman, not so much - too shy, defensive, or something - except in this performance, this stunning performance, where he comes off like Janis Joplin. In later years, Roger Chapman has become a little more conventional R&B, which suits his voice, whereas Ian Hunter has claimed his space with a long run of superb albums. It is a wonder that they are still blasting out their respective unique music with utter conviction. I, for one of tens of thousands, am most grateful. But could they please get a little more recognition? For fifty years they have both been among the best songwriters in rock. Couldn't that be recognized?

Oh that voice!!! It reaches out and grabs you by the balls and demands that you listen to it. There’s no one else like mr c . Ever since I first heard family back in the early seventies I’ve been a big big fan of the guy and he can sing me the telephone directory and I’d be jelly !! Thanks for so much great music.

We saw Roger Chapman in June 1994 at Marcq-en-Barœul (Music Festival) : a splendid concert which gave us hope for a recurrence which, unfortunately, never came. Her career commands admiration, we follow her from Family during the 60's ; looping “A Song for me” on the turntable. A great singer and one of our favorites!
