Was it just me or was the bass solo the most amazing thing ever? Ok, it wasn't just me. He was brilliant at the bass. Thank you for posting this! It's AMAZING. :)
You give The Ox a bass He will rock it become a god of it You give The Ox an acoustic bass He will rock it and become a god of it You give The Ox a Double bass He will rock it become god of it
In his biography, "hanks a Lot, Mr. Kibblewhite: My Story", Roger Daltrey refers to this performance as the one time that John Entwistle kept it under control and played soft enough not to blow you away. He played louder than Pete at most of the Who's gigs!
Roger admitted to putting this together with the Chieftains to get a laugh at how quiet they were compared to John's bass as he said "after years and years and years" of putting up with John's loudness.
John does with his bass what Pete did with his guitar with a little bit of Keith's drums (which I really miss in this version :( ) John's just awesome!
oh wow, i saw this video about 3 years ago and then it was taken off---i think the title was slightly different---but i'm so glad it's back!! i LOVED watching John on the acoustic!!!!!!! fuckin' brilliant
Pete was there....btw it was Roger's 50th birthday celebrated a week early ...in Carnegie Hall Feb 24& 25 th... The tape is out there CD too very special night
Wow. Dave Mustaine famously said "playing acoustic is like trying to have sex with your clothes on" And Entwistle just shredded that acoustic like no one else. RIP
@profjohnfrinks On the Kids Are Alright bonus disk Roger says that those were his gold records that John shot up. Which makes it exponentially more fantastic in my mind.
@@learnthroughmusicandlyrics6361 I don't think roger had any animosity towards him neither John, probably in their younger days when Roger was actually hated for all the group.
anyone who calls this shit or painful should automatically get their rock credentials pulled, as well as their eyes and ears for obviously being oblivious to the plain as day BEAUTY and emotion put forth by the legendary Chieftains, Daltrey and the Ox..i bet it was painful for townsend...cause he missed out on this... Buiochas le Dia.,...
Roger says on page 135 that he got a kick out of placing John with that band, forcing him to play not so goddamned loud as to drown out Roger's voice like he does at WHO concerts.
dude, only the coolest man alive(or to have lived) would pull a tommy gun and clip out of a guitar case and proceed to shoot his gold records as if they were clay pigeons...
