I watched them play for more than 20 years against each other and was the happiest person in the world whenever they played against each other...I'm a Federer fan and I didn't start crying until I saw Rafa cry after the match...then it all came down...because Rafa is the only person in the world who know how that rivalry felt and he described it perfectly....there will never EVER be another ROGER FEDERER the G.O.A.T. the legend, maestro, the king, the one and only mister Roger Federer!!!!!!!!! I have never cried so much over the end of someones career...but Federer is literally tennis in my dictionary...and I watched a lot of tennis over the last 20+ years...Federer,Nadal,Đoković,Murray,Wawrinka,Čilić,Del Potro,David Ferrer,J.C.Ferrero,Nalbandian,Roddick,Safin,Ljubičić, Davydenko and so many others...that were the times of best tennis not today's "players" so with Federer,Nadal,Murray and Đoković will end the best era of tennis ever!!!! I don't think any of us will ever see so much talent in the same era...
I'm happy for Roger and Rafa. Throughout the years being a Swiss fan it was always tense, due to the sport, but outside it these two gave us happiness. I am only happy both Fed and Rafa won so much. Also, we saw some amazing tennis.
Nadal was just 17 years old when he played Federer for the first time in 2004, and now he's 36. Federer has been a major part of his entire adult life.
Il y avait PLUS QUE DE L AMITIÉ ENTRE EUX MAIS UNE ADMIRATION DU PLUS JEUNE POUR L AÎNÉ QUI L A VU ÉVOLUER ET A UN MOMENT S EST SENTI VACILLER ET A DÉCIDÉ DE LUTTER DAVANTAGE POUR RESTER LEADER ET C EST ENSEMBLE QU ILS ONT CONTINUÉ LA LUTTE AVEC CETTE ADMIRATION MUTUELLE
Best rivalry ever in tennis history. These guys go beyond the definition of sport. It was their true friendship that makes this sport greater than ever
Maybe the most loved rivalry, but certainly not the best. Rafa and Novak is the best rivalry (quality wise) that we have ever seen in tennis. Nadal dominated Federer until basically the last 2 years of their rivalry when Fed improved the h2h a bit... All that aside, its really emotional seeing them together one last time. Novak is the BEST player ever, but Federer might be the greatest ever, his influence is unmatchable. There will never be another Roger.
@@Bachda1727 totally agree and this rivalry happened first so that always holds more weight and nostalgia. Also, now that roger was first to go and retire out of the 3 (maybe 4…Andy lol) his retirement will be more sentimental and will overshadow the retirements of the other two when they decide to hang the rackets. That’s how things go whoever does something first the second time never feels the same
@@jemand8462 rafa did an interview on spanish radio two days ago where he talked about how roger and his relationship evolved and how they valued their personal relationship more than their professional one
Man....you can see how RF is really really having hard time to hold himself together and hold back tears. Even now during the inteview. What an amazing human beings these two have become before everything else after all these years ❤
I reckon Federer was zoning out of parts of the conversation, I think to avoid getting emotional. I do it watching emotional movies when I don't want tear up in front of the missus 😂 2 greatest along with Novak in men's tennis.
Rafa is Roger’s biggest fan, 100%. There is much to say about how these two pushed eachother to new heights, and we are blessed to see their relationship blossom like this.
The way Roger reacts when Rafa says that he is his "greatest rival" tells us everything. I have never seen a sporting pair of greats where they actually take being each other's competition as their greatest achievements and compliments.
For me, I knew that Federer and Nadal were friends, but only after this final match playing together did I realize how deep their relationship actually is. It's truly incredible that they can be both the ultimate rivals on the court and actual close friends off the court.
Exactly. The rest of team Europe didn't actually cry like Rafa. They cried in phases, when certain occasion tugged their heartstrings. Rafa cried, alongside Roger, sometimes even sob more, from start to finish. Pretty shocking, but understandable considering what they went through for the last 20 yrs
these 2 guys, both trying to hold on to their tears when the other speaks. how many sportsmen can be like them holding such respect to the other party at the end of their career ? rare breed and legendary
I never wished for this day to come but in way Roger got the best retirement reception ever. He had everybody beside him who held an important part in his life. And I expected Roger to cry but never thought Rafa would cry this much . These two left with me loads of tears ❤️
I wished delpo and ferrer did not have to go alone. It was painful to watch delpo putting his yellow headband on the net and ferrer leaving his red headband at the T. Esp felt bad that ferrer never got a slam being a great player. Coming that from Rafa proves he was good but just unlucky to be at Roger’s era. Thankfully the French people gave a great send off to tsonga.
Me too, incredibly emotional, but all very strong and beautiful emotions too. A real friendship, and we need more of that kind of friendship on this planet, more freedom 🕊️🕊️🕊️
I love what Roger said at the very end -- that he was scared of the other guys retiring before him and feeling very lonely. That is so heartfelt and honest. Thank you for sharing these sentiments with us.
Or like a parent outliving a child, that never feels right, ever. He sounded that way as well, also I agree that as a big older brother as well, you feel it's only right that you go first.
Rafa and federer really possess such a poetic realization of what the potential of competition is. They both realize they they would never have become as good as they were if it weren't for the rivalry they created. Through that thought, they both chose to grow respectful towards one another instead of spiteful or cruel. It was that mutual respect that allowed them to become friends and champions. Really inspiring stuff.
They both looked like they wanted to cry during this interview, but they held it in this time, especially Roger, who was always the most emotional of the Big Three.
Roger Federer𓃵’s retirement takeaways: 1. Embrace hard work 2. Conduct your life with class 3. Retire at right time 2. Ultimate greatness is when competitors cry for you 3. Rivalry in the court and close friendship both are possible 4. Men can cry- vulnerability is greatness
I have always been a RF fan, and this unavoidable moment is really heart breaking, but at this moment I would like to mention and highlight the beautiful soul that Nadal has: his ability to move from being a rival to a friend and back (so does RF) and to allow himself to openly display his true emotions towards Federer and the sense of loss he experiences right now- well that's far beyond showing respect and sportsmanship. A true class act. Much love and respect to him. (but my heart still belongs to Roger..)
Mine belongs to both. Started with just Roger (well, really, started with Bjorn) and then I grew to love Rafa as well. Amazing tennis players and such lovely people. Very touched to see how deeply they both felt last night. ❤
So privileged to have witnessed those 2. I was 8 when they played against each other for the 1st time and I am 27 when Roger and Rafa played Roger's last professional match. What an era! Rafa will be a father soon, with his body letting him down more and more, I know I have less time enjoying him on the court. Thank you Roger! Fedal forever! The goat!
The Big 3 did something that never happened before. 3 players with 20+ grand slams! Roger, the best Grass court player of all time. Rafa, the best Clay court player of all time. And Novak, the best Hard court of all time. Who is the goat will be subjective but they are all 3 the goat for me. I'm a Rafa's fan but I can that acknowledge what Roger and Novak achieved is just as big as what Rafa did.
Roger can barely even look at Rafa because of the emotion. So sweet! These two are my favorite male tennis players. I'm privileged to have been able to watch them all these years. It's going to be so hard when it's Rafa's time. I can't even imagine. I'm rooting for Roger for the next chapter. He's got a lot going for him in retirement. I wish him the best.
I'm so happy that he is in peace and complete happiness. Some of the stupid comments on the internet makes you question it because he lost the match, but the reality is he came here not to win or lose, he came here to say goodbye with everyone he had memories with. It's goodbye to Tennis for him.
Yeah there's always toxic or jealous fans, or say, they just forgetting how long the history for one match that actually a beautiful gift of saying goodbye. I do never understand some fans always fight to put goat title when they all already included, indeed.
As soon as the match was over, it meant nothing. Was not at all what was important. It was so that Roger could retire on court, with Rafa and the team to soften the blow and let Roger feel less anxious like he'd have been going through it all alone.
Man. This is just ... Out of this world. Their passion, mutual respect and interconnection and chemistry.. ufff.. as Rafa said perfectly the air changes when they step on court and do their things!
I love these two. So glad his last match was with Rafa. Poor Rafa looks like he’s lost his best mate. When Rafa gives up I’ll be crying my eyes out too…..xx
Federer is retiring and they're doing an interview together, it's amazing, a great, real frienship. Unreal athletes, good, sincere, friendly, that's why people love you. Good luck to both of you
I am a Nadal fan and rooted hard for him against Roger in all their great matches...but man just incredible how close these two have become over the years and their legend has just continued to grow over the years. Finally seeing Roger finally retire and Rafa not able to hold his emotions, just makes you realise what an era of tennis we were lucky to witness and be fans of. We will never see the likes of these 2 and Djokovic, ever again.
As a Rafa fan, it was really hard to watch him cry but the most beautiful part about it all was their friendship. I am just short of words. Tennis won't be the same without Roger in it.
Not sure about anyone else, and I could very well be simply caught up in last night's events, but there is an intensity about the affection they have for each other than I didn't realise was there. Seems unique. Nadal explains it all perfectly, but it was still quite incredible to watch it all happen the way it did.
They're pure and deep soulmates ! They just shared pure love, emotions and good energies on the court. When Rafa says that " it's an important part of my life that is leaving" you can feel that it's something visceral. We were honored to be spectators of this relationship.
I think we will never witness a rivalry where the rivalry is nothing but pure friendship and of utmost respect. Thank you Roger and Rafa for teaching us that there are some things that exceeds even the greatest of achievements in winning plethora of grand slams ♥️
Hey Roger and Rafa, you probably will never know how much we are thankful to have two of you in TENNIS world. This is not the end because wherever, whenever ~~ your LEGENDS will last forever ~~
I like how the Laver Cup shows that, in the end, the respect and admiration from the players to each other is what matters the most, more than who is "better" or who you prefer, it sets up a good example and is doing wonders to the tennis community by mending the rifts within the big 3 fanbase. They were always rivals, never enemies, now friends!
Not enough words can do justice for what he has done for the sport of Tennis. He has impacted millions if not billions of lives across the world not just with his athletic ability but by being a truly incredible human being above all else. He deserves all the praise he gets and more. Of course we are all going to miss his on court magic but his personality and presence is the hardest thing to say goodbye to. Enjoy retirement with your family Roger Federer.
Tennis will be poorer without these two role models. I'm still reeling from those emotional scenes on court. Rafa has never known Tennis without Roger. Until now. 💔 Their rivalry, their bond, their grace, class and brotherhood will live on. Sport, let alone Tennis, may not see another relationship like Fedal. Thanks Roger and Rafa! Blessed to live through this era.
Very fitting in the end exactly like Roger said… and for me seeing “The Maestro “ and “The Matador” playing together as friends truly exemplifies the “Gentleman’s Game” i grew to love over the years of my life
Eternal thanks Roger and Rafa. You two made me love tennis. Nothing's gonna be the same from now on. I Guess nothing lasts forever and that's as simple as it is
Everybody talked about them crying on the court - they couldn't even keep back the tears in their joint interview! The perfect ending indeed. I truly was not aware how deep their friendship and mutual respect was.
These two geniuses redefined what it means to be professional rivals, they showed the world that you don’t have to hate your nemesis, you can actually be best friends. They are giants, humans of the highest caliber, I feel privileged to have witnessed such an amazing chapter in tennis 🎾 history, the feeling is of gratitude, they lived the dream that all of us tennis players want to live, we are all a big soul and we share a common love. May your legacy last for eternity Federer, you are the pinnacle of greatness in a sport and for that we can call you King 👑 Roger of Tennis.
So touching interview, they are so great human beings they are tennis players, as well as the deep passion for sport and competition. Rarely you see this side in other sports. I love it!
It was a privilege to be watching both of you for so long, almost your whole professional career. Thank you Roger. Rafa - We would be eagerly waiting for you to break the 25 slams barrier before retiring. Vamos!!
Holy shit, you can still hear the pain in their voices. This must've been hard for both. A lot of memories are probably rushing into their minds during Federer's last moments on court.
Blessed to have witnessed this epic rivalry/ friendship between Rafa and Federer. Classy athletes on and off the court and tremendous admiration for each other 🙏
I can see the respect that they have for each other. Both of them sitting next to each other holding hands and crying, made me cry. Federer is the reason why I feel in love with tennis and watching them both is just a joy to see. They’re both the GOAT. ❤❤❤
As a football fan, Federer and Nadal have the bond that was truly special. Beyond blessed to be in the generation to witness them. This is heartbreaking for them both,. To share this stage with passion for all these years. They aren't rivals..they are brothers pushing each other for the better. Can't help but looking at Rafa and Roger here reminds me of Ronaldo and Messi being together when they retire.. Breaks my heart again... World will never be ready to accept these legends go either Thankyou Roger ❤️
I'm blessed enough to witness two gladiators who are not just rivals, but also friends who support each other. I'm yet to see this in any sports. Proud to be youRFan #RForever
Their matches were absolutely incredible. My favorite rivalry and I honestly feel theirs was the best in history. I’ll miss them. I’m trying to get into the younger players now but it just isn’t the same without my faves.
FEDAL have two uplifted the game of Tennis to an unfathomable level. Feel blessed and content that I got to grow watching these two idols of the world sport. Inspired the kids to be a better person and not only the better player. You will be missed Roger Federer, you were a treat to watch and follow! Best of the best! Rafa second to none, right there with his friend Roger!
Its been an absolute privilege to watch such unique sportsmen ..not just their genius but they brought charisma and a special something that,I feel, can never be replaced or repeated..thank you for bringing such happiness to so many.
Omgggg I was crying the whole time especially when Rafa cried too! Until now I'm still sad and processing last night!! So much love to you both!! FEDAL FOREVER!!❤️❤️👑👑🐐🐐
When they start to talk and laugh about becoming a doubles team I could really see the two younger guys when they were making that promo for an exhibition for Roger's Foundation, and couldn't stop giggling. The same two friends. It's been a tough day or two watching last night and seeing so much more content today. I wish it weren't true. I will miss Roger very much and I dread the day that Rafa says goodbye.
I keep watching it over and over and it still cracks me up biggest fan of Roger but Rafa not far behind Roger will always be the etiquette of tennis and it will never be the same without him 😢😢❤❤
What contrasting styles of play both so very different yet such great friends such camaraderie is hard to find.Legends in their own right.Roger and Rafa thanks for the fantastic moments yesterday. Roger remains the most graceful and elegant player ever to play the sport.
Class, respect, and sportsmanship at the highest level possible. Roger requesting for his last match to be with his greatest rival speaks volumes. And in return, seeing Rafa try to win this match for him is absolutely sublime. Watching these titans cry at the end is the most touching moment in tennis history. There will be a void that tennis will never heal from with Roger leaving and then of course the day that Rafa retires as well.
So emotional interview. Great athletes and human beings. I love when people are having so much respect and admiration to each other. These two are legends.
It's amazing story made by 2 brilliant tennis players with extremely different play style, yet so beautiful. I'm grateful to witness the journey of Roger and Rafa. Thank you for inspiring the world Roger, you will be missed...
These two legends created a dynamic in tennis that hadn't existed before them; they showed that two players can compete for the very top trophies in tennis, MANY time, suffering devastating losses to one another yet can still be friends off the court and have a deep-seated admiration/respect for each other. Before them, the relationships among top tennis players, male or female, ranged from cold to downright acrimonious. There's a reason why they are as loved by millions of fans all over the world as they are, and I, a huge Rafa fan, can honestly say that I will sorely miss seeing Federer work his unmatched magic on the tennis courts. Enjoy your retirement, maestro.
Yes same here! And then Nadal nodded his head in agreement. I love when people are secure enough to admit being vulnerbale, and also that sometimes vulnerability is good.
Most of us were crying, Mr. Wonderful! Impossible not to feel sad seeing you retiring. Impossible not to cry witnessing the king of friendship Rafa and Federer share. Thanks Federer! Love you!!
