Roger’s honest and pointed lyric writing combined with his eloquent music is the what makes songs legendary. His music makes you feel good and at the same time make you think.

Great idea to have artists tell their stories. Supertramp is one of my favorites and have seen them several times in the 70s. They inspired a more current band, Tame Impala. Keep the beat going.

He explains school so well. It should focus just a little more on character building, finding yourself, and most importantly BEING yourself. OF COURSE the academic part of it is extremely important, and it doesn't mean you can just waste your time doing nothing. However, it is still a relevant issue in schools, where sometimes individuality isn't quite excepted by the peers. Then again, Roger did go to a private all boys school, so it could just be that XD

He didn’t mention how it was a joint written song by Himself and Rick Davies
@WilliamJones-sf5pt
@WilliamJones-sf5pt Год назад
Indeed. From what I learned, what I found surprising, is Rick was the true heart of the group. John Helliwell was on the same level as Roger. Bob S. had to be great to duel it out with Rick. Rick was a master percussionist. He says he got his start in a group by faking that he knew how to play the organ. How great was Dougie Thompson? We will never know listening to Roger carry on about himself.
@frankmachin5438

Rick Davies might’ve had more to do with the melody, but this is a story about the meaning of the song, what the lyrics mean. Do you know what role Davies played in writing this song? No?…..didn’t think so.
@harmonium8198
@harmonium8198 27 дней назад
Like Lennon and McCartney, Hodgson and Davies made an agreement early on that, no matter who the main--or even sole--writer of a song was, the song would be credited to both Hodgson and Davies. Typically, one can tell the primary writer of a Supertramp song from, among other things, who gets the lead vocal. In the same way that, say, "Martha My Dear" is clearly a McCartney song and "Julia" clearly a Lennon song, even though the two of them together are credited as the composers of each, "School" was written by Hodgson and "Bloody Well Right" by Davies.

Certainly a talented guy. Don't know why he needs to continuously reaffirm his writing credits and his contributions with Supertramp. The other 10 guys on that TEAM were, at minimum, playing fills on a variety of instruments and singing back up on many of the parts that made the song. Maybe he wrote ALL the drum, sax, bass and the many other instruments used and then taught each member their parts. The only song I can think of after he left & including his solo stuff is......... Cannonball.
@leftcoaster67
@leftcoaster67 Год назад
Cannonball was Rick Davies. I think it's because the band carried on without Roger. There seemed to be a great dynamic with Rick and Roger. But in the end. Roger wanted to do Beatles type popular music. Rick wanted to stay to his Progressive Rock roots. So Roger left the band. He's a tremendous talent, they all are.

I hate making comparisons in music, but this song has sort of been overshadowed by Pink Floyd's "another brick in the wall' as THE song about public education. Both are great songs but I have to say for repeated listening, this really blows any other song away (for me) except maybe Rush's Subdivisions about growing up.

In todays generation he would be labeled terrorist, gender non-conformist, gay, whatever. Back then, people had the space and time to figure themselves out without a constant looking glass from society, and how well that panned out in terms of arts. I wish people today forget about what others ego labels them, and just go their own way, creating and clearing their own way. The more I know of life, the more I know that school recess is never over, and people's own insecurities will bully others into oblivion if they can, and our own need for recognition will make ourselves agree with the agressor. Don't conform, and question everyone, specially the ones around you, that will not care about who you really are, and just want a scape goat, or a "character" that they will recognize as one dimensional, and feel good going against.

what bs. lol. He is saying what may have been true 60 years ago. Today, kids have no discipline in school at all. They are told they can be whatever they want to be, they are all special, and they all get trophies for showing up. Where has this guy been for the last 30 years?
@csykes23
@csykes23 6 лет назад
That's not what he said though is it. He said kids are taught to conform to society rather than find their unique talent and place in the world, let alone find what they like or who they are. That's as true today as 60 years ago...160 years ago.
