It's interesting that the Nobel committe takes interview in the telephone and not in some internet meeting sites, it very Classic. Congratulations sir. Penrose tiles is the most interesting sign of creativity ever.
“We have a closed circle of consistency here: the laws of physics produce complex systems, and these complex systems lead to consciousness, which then produces mathematics, which can then encode in a succinct and inspiring way the very underlying laws of physics that gave rise to it.” - Roger Penrose
Yes, but he's still left with the question of how to produce the quality of awareness (subject) out of "complex systems" of atoms and molecules (objects). His present theory of consciousness doesn't explain it.
Penrose is such an interesting guy. I'm really glad to see him win the prize because he's getting up there in age and he's one of the most brilliant theoretical mathematicians of all time.
Congratulations Sir Roger Penrose!!! Your lectures and the Penrose diagram was the first time I really started to understand black holes, so happy for you!!!
What a pleasure to hear that Professor Roger Penrose has received the Nobel Prize❤️ I would love to interview him someday. Thanks for a wonderful interview. I have watched hours of Penrose lectures and interviews on RU-vid and this one is one of the best. Tack, bra jobbat👍🇸🇪
Congratulations to my favorite author and favorite mathematician and physicist Roger Penrose. He has been quite the role model for my current pursuit of physics.
Roger Penrose is such an amazing role model for academic research. An endlessly creative and simultaneously meticulous mind. What a blessing to humanity.
Penrose has said that he considers himself a mathematician. Also Wigner won the Nobel Prize for physics and was generally considered to be a mathematician.
The intuition of Prof. Hawking proving Big Bag was certainly genius, as it was his solution to the emissions at the event horizon of Black Holes. I do appreciate the work of Prof. Penrose on Black Holes more, for the elegance of the solutions and the incredible depth of his calculations. If you read this, BRAVO Prof. Penrose, for your incredible work and the much deserved Prize you just won!
I studied all of his work at last two years and still going on. Which is breathtaking everytime when i understand the concept. Congratulation penrose. You deserve that more than anyone
Remember the word 'aeons.' An absolutely fantastic picture of the universe(s) presented with such humility by one of the most imaginative physicists of our times.
An absolutely brilliant veteran mathematician of world class calibre.....very worthy of the NP ................Hawking should be awarded the NP as well...posthumously.
Congratulations sir ! I vividly remember my first ever sight of M.C.Escher's Waterfall in my university maths chamber and it has perpetually inspired me and countless young minds to perceive the 'impossibility in its purest form'. Thanks to you sir ! You have made the most elegant stairs to access the beauty of mathematics even for a layman. Thanks Universe for Roger Penrose 🔯🔺🐚
This makes me very happy. I would've been very disappointed if Penrose died without getting Nobel Prize in Physics. His work on spinors, penrose diagrams and black hole formation and collapse is extraordinary.
One of the best scientists of the time, love your theory on conformal cyclic cosmology, you really deserve this Nobel, in addition to your current placement within those who have done something that effective to humanity...
I would love to see the overhead projector transparency for this interview 😂 (well done, i think a lot of people find it hard to follow Penrose long enough to interview him well, you managed to get him onto some interesting material !)
Congratulations from Kolkata (India). His works have been developed by using Roychowdhury equation (Amal K Roychowdhury). Professor Roychowdhury was a professor of physics in kolkata.
This is an incredible incredible clear explanation of entropy and the end and beginning of the universe and actual evidence of its cyclic nature. It is mind blowing and wonderful.
Congratulations to Sir Roger Penrose. Extraordinary mind well deserved prize for its extraordinary scientific past contributions, even more now he is visualizing other extraordinary theories like Cyclic Universe theory and the Orchestrated Objective Reduction (Orch-OR) theory of consciousness. Definitely one of my top physicist heroes.
I so greatly admire Roger Penrose. His ideas are so deeply stirring, fascinating and beautiful. I don’t like the idea of a universe that just peters out and dies. It’s just depressing. And I think an infinite number of multiverses is a crazy, ugly idea. I was a fan of the Big Bang expanding until gravity halted it and brought it back to a Big Crunch followed by another Big Bang, but that was proven wrong. I also liked Isaac Asimov story of the big computer at the end of the universe gathering the answer to the question of how to reverse entropy. When it finally got all the information as the last star was dying, it gave it’s answer: “Let there be light.” And it all began again. So now I am rooting for Penrose’s Aeons and Conformal Cyclic Cosmology. Thank you Roger for that beautiful idea. In a completely different area there is Penrose’s three worlds: physical, mental and platonic/math and how they are all needed to explain reality. How beautiful that idea is! How bold! Who else thinks like this? No one. And his search for the physical basis of consciousness is another. Then of course he explains black holes and wins the Nobel prize. What an awesome man.
@@johnjohntv1195 Beautiful is subjective so that's actually a good question. Beatiful is what we prefer pretty much by definition so out of that follows that simply we want the universe to be something we want it to be. It doesn't really work like that of course. However, I have not gotten into the idea of infinite amount of universes. My current ignorant problem with it is that I don't understand where all the energy would come (which mass is) from but maybe I'm just looking at it completely wrong.
It's amazing to know that Nobel commetee does not give prize just to a wonderful thaught,he is getting Nobel for his theory given in 1965 just after we actually saw black hole last year amazing 😎
The last part which Dr Roger Penrose said regarding the remnants of the previous universe was said long back on the similar lines in Indian Vedic Scriptures, which says this is 84th Bigbang. Now, after listening to this video, it makes a lot of sense. Congrats Dr Roger Penrose.
@@das_it_mane Yes, it does. It speaks volumes about dark matter and dark energy which we found out (using scientific methods) a few decades ago. The sad part is no one believes it because there are no mathematical equations or deductions to prove.
What a family! Brilliant father, Prof. Lionel Penrose; three sons: Oliver, my contemporary at Cambridge U. 1950 on and eventually Professor - Mathematics, I think - at Edinburgh U,; ; Roger; Professor at Oxford; and Jonathan, also Professor, at London U., but a chess Grandmaster and British champion. Oliver told me that Roger preferred Bridge to Chess1 I know nothing about the sister.
This was a very good choice of laureates. As a physicist myself I was underwhelmed by Nobel Prizes for things like topology. Nowadays the greatest progresses physics makes is in cosmology and astrophysics. This is why black holes, Hubble constant and gravitational waves are things that really inspire the young generation which future physicists will come from.
