As a 57 year Cowboys fan whose childhood hero was Captain Comeback, I’d like to say thank you! As a person who absolutely loves his team, through thick and thin, I can honestly say that I’m happy to have been born when I was. I got to go through “The Team That Can’t Win The Big Game” period, then 5 SBs with 2 victories, another big dip and a one win season. Then the sale and the resurrection; revenge against the Niners, which was so sweet and 3 Super Bowls and 3 victories!! Now, in another LONG stretch with ZERO Chips in sight. They need to win a Chip while Micah is young!!!
@cuse From a Tom Landry-era Dallas Cowboys fan since 1963..... thanks for the kind words about Roger. I have admired many Eagles players through the years, even since S.Jurgensen was quarterbacking at Franklin Field.🏈
@@michael.prescott4016 he chose to go to the Naval academy and knew he had a 4 year commitment to serve after graduation so he did have a choice and in the long run it was the right choice, his education helped him become a billionaire when he sold his construction in real estate business
Captain America! He IS The Dallas Cowboys. Not to mention that he is a Vietnam War Veteran as well. Even if you are not a Cowboys fan, you have to respect this man. #12 is an American Hero.
Roger did served our country in Vietnam but he did not see any action. If I remember correctly. Roger serving his country getting the food supply ready for our troops. Either way he and other were helping our men during the Vietnam war.
Mr. Staubach is an all-time great player and person. Because of him, I became a Cowboys fan way back in 1973-74. Awesome player and an awesome man. they don't make em like this anymore, unfortunately.
Im a Patriots fan and ofcourse i think Brady is the best of all time but if i had to start a team and couldn't choose Brady. Rodger The Dodger is who i would choose. Great great player and leader. Plus the Doomsday defense with Too Tall Jones and Bob Lilly was sick
Can you imagine what a guy with his abilities would do in this league now? the way they pamper the QB's now, I wonder what kind of stats he would have put up and how many more Superbowl rings he would have hmmmm. His last season at age of 37 he threw for 3600yds comp% of 60% they ran as a team for over 2500. With today's sports science and nutrition, this guy would have been a Top 3 QB in the league for years.
Great guy. Had dinner with he and his wife back in 1973 in San Francisco while he was doing a promo tour with Emery Air Freight that I worked for at the time. What a great quality man.
I grew up in 1970's Dallas. Roger remains the only sports hero I've ever had. I could write 10 pages, but a main thing that sticks out is my family and all Dallas fans never thought Dallas was out of the game when behind in the 4th QTR, with Roger at QB. So many comebacks, but even in both close Super Bowl losses to Steelers, he rallied team with late TDs to where it felt like he just ran out of time.
@@kevinthb498 Danny White took after Staubach in the comeback situation, unfortunately he never was able to bring us to the promised land. One play away in 81 NFC championship game.
I would take him #1 over all QB's off today and if i had put together a great all time Team he would be my starting QB' at time Team " CaptIan America of my Dallas Cowboys Nation. Fan is Greatest Dallas Cowboys of time! Brothers and Sisters be bless by God our LORD JESUS CHRIST is LOVE ❤👮👧🙏🙇👼🎅💁💁🙍👦👵👶👸🌲 ..Merry Christmas and Happy New year to all mankind and Brothers and Sisters " Dallas Cowboys Nation forever! ❤..Michael Angelo in Tallahassee Fl.
Purcell Marion High School, to The Naval Academy, to The Dallas Cowboys, to The Hall of Fame, to LEGEND. Because of Staubachs service to the country he played only 10 years. Led the Cowboys to four Super Bowls, winning two. Imagine if he was able to play four or five more years. His and the Cowboys Super Bowl totals would be much higher. One of the best EVER!
Having watched him play it was an honor. It also means a lot to hear him say Brady is the GOAT. This man played in a true gladiatorial era of the NFL. He realizes it's more than that taking a hit.
A lot of the 70's Steelers really respected Staubach. Lambert said he could take a hit. Baby brady wouldn't have lasted a year had he played in the 70's
What a LEGEND and success this man is !!!. Roger That !!!. No one like this guy, read up on his life accomplishments, Navy, football, baseball, family, business, its incredible.
Roger is what all humans can hold up as the goal to try and achieve, ask Hollywood Henderson. Roger saw that HH needed a friend to step in and help, and HH has said that Roger saved his life. somewhere online HH's testimony to this is available it's worth finding and checking out
Mean Joe said Staubach scared him. Partial quote: "Well Staubach was a little different. A wild card. He could beat you. Had no fear. You better prepared."
So true, Scott. Damn, I wish Dallas won SB 13 against the Steelers. In SB 10, Pittsburgh was definitely the better team. Not in 13 though. Dallas got some really bad breaks.
@@briancusack4386 Pitt had betr team in 10. Dallas did test them and they did. 13 I think we were even with them. Had we taken care of the ball outcome could have been different. Pearson fumble on opening drive killed potential score. Dropped td in a close Super Bowl is brutal. Super Bowl 30 Dallas much betr team than Pitt. Pitt could have won. We got the breaks. Evens out for Super Bowl 13.
@@scottdavidson7001 : As always, you make valid points, Scott. Yes, the Steelers got all the breaks in 13, but our 'Boys got the breaks in SB 30. Thus, it did even out. To this day, I still wonder where Neil O'Donnell was looking when he threw those two picks to Larry Brown. LB won SB MVP, and then signed a lucrative contract with Oakland in the off-season. He never did anything special for the Raiders though.
Scott Davidson: You're right about Staubach, and Mean Joe Greene. Also, Hollywood Henderson has been quoted as saying that if he was in a back alley in Harlem, Roger Staubach is the man he would want at his back!
I'm 61 grew up in Irving Texas and in my early teen years I sold concessions in the stands at Texas stadium during the staubach era for 3 seasons for every pre-season regular season and playoff games and 1 pro bowl i got to meet the players up close in the hours before kickoff in the tunnel
The Great One..... what he was too gracious to say about QB's playing into their 40s today was they weren't getting hit like they were back in the 70s.... I saw Staubach take sacks that would get players ejected now a days.....
Maybe my favorite Cowboy of all time. If Roger had started Super Bowl V, the Cowboys would have won that game. In Super Bowl VI, I think Chuck Howley was more deserving of the MVP, as Howley was all over the field making one big play after another.
I've noticed that too. He also chokes up some when speaking about his dad. It's obviously awful whenever you lose your parents. But Roger was about 28 when he lost his dad and 31 when he lost his mom. And he was an only child, so it was all gone
Roger is the coolest because 1) He made Landry alter his gameplan to suit Staubach's strengths ... 2) He won the Heismann Trophy playing for Navy (not a college) ... 3) 15 grandkids.
Rodger set a template for Shaq off the field...Rodger is almost worth a billion dollars as a real estate business owner...Shaq is doing the same. One of the most successful people ever...on and off the field! The role models are there for those who can see and hear...
I'd love to see Roger or Fran Tarkenton playing in today's NFL. I think they'd be super successful and Roger and the Cowboys might have defeated Pittsburgh IF he had been allowed to run.
In 1978, the Houston Oilers had the #1 draft pick - Earl Campbell. That same draft, Warren Moon went undrafted. Roger Staubach announced his retirement in 1980 before that year's draft. If the Cowboys would have drafted Moon, he could have learned the system during the 1978 and 79 season, got some playing time, and then taken over at the 1980 season!
There is - absolutely - NO way for me to be able to understand EXACTLY what is in the thinking of the people who either design football helmets (&/or actually make them) as to WHY - exactly - football helmets aren’t made differently. A helmet should - ACTUALLY - protect the head of each & every football player, it ought to protect the players from either suffering from a concession &/or suffer from CTE. It seems to me that this particular “line of thinking” (namely - that a helmet ought to do a MUCH BETTER job in “protecting” a player, is - SO - TOTALLY -obvious to any & every person. Designing & manufacturing a helmet - SHOULD be a “NO-brainer” ! Otherwise, Today’s helmets are just simply made to be worn by football players as a hat/covering, NOT for REAL protection ! I’m essence, they just are a very sweaty & totally useless piece of equipment for a football player to need to wear !
8:20 Sorry Roger to contradict, but ...Tom Brady wasn't drafted for his strengths. His strengths weren't there when he was drafted. Brady has Belichek to thank for his GOATness more than himself. If Brady goes to another coach 22 years ago ... he isn't the Brady we celebrate today. If Bledsoe doesn't get hurt ... again ... Tom Brady probably has a waaaaaay different career. Its about choices ... its about genetics ... its about college training ... but more than anything, becoming the GOAT requires dumb blind luck.
@10:38 Dak actually played better vs the Rams Defense than Brady and Brees . Now do not get confused , Brady is the GOAT and Brees is top 10 all time. I just made an observation.
You are 100% right. Dak isn't Joe Montana but he DEFINITELY played better against the Rams defense than Brady and Brees. He played well enough in that game for Dallas to win. We just couldn't stop the run. The Rams defense is no joke which we all saw Sunday. Jared Goff cost the Rams the Super Bowl
