Roger Waters - Newport Folk Festival July 24, 2015. Filmed in HD 1080p, in the rain, whilst trying to protect my camera from the deluge so forgive the shaky stuff!
I always said this should have been the follow up for The Wall and not The Final Cut. Amused to Death is more relevant now that it ever was in the 80's and 90's. I love this album.
Funny. I agree but I was just watching Roger being interviewed and he was ask about the lyrics. He said he tries to be entirely detached passive from that component and refused to comment on specific lyrics comparing that to "pulling the wings off a butterfly". He is a real Mench
@dirt man u know what, the younger generation LOVES The Final Cut. Me, being over 40, was not a fan. It has it's moments but it's because of Dave. I think Radio KAOS was better than TFC. Hell, I like Momentary and Division Bell better that TFC. I know Momentary sounds more like a David Gilmore solo album but I really like that album. With that being said, all Pink Floyd albums are great. Shine on you crazy diamond... Edit: Although I love Dave's guitar and the late Wright's piano there is no matching the lyrics and poetry of Roger Waters.
This album is my favorite thing that ANY one in the PF camp has done since Roger left the band. Sadly, it becomes more and more prophetic as time passes.
The sentiment of this song seems perfectly echoed by the selfy taking couple in the background. They seemed oblivious to the fact they are in the presence of brilliance. I may be wrong...just seems that way..ATD...one of the greatest albums ever. A musical masterpiece and a lesson rolled into one.👍👍👍
Interesting observation. I agree ... Obliviousness personified. Or, maybe that's their way of expereincing "greatness," saying, "I was there?" Who knows?
A shame he never toured behind this masterpiece. ATD would be remembered with the same reverence as The Wall or DSOTM if it had the Pink Floyd name. Perhaps Roger's greatest work. I remember playing it for my girlfriend and Watching TV brought her tears.
I found this album way back when it first came out and put it in my cd player. I never realized how many times I had listened to it day after day until I realized it had been in my cd player for over a year. I literally listened to this cd every single day for OVER A YEAR! Only time I've ever done that!!
The genius predicted in 1992 when he wrote and played amused to death how eventually our generation and our kids waste life's sitting in front of phone, games and social media. I'd not be surprised when later on we find out that aliens mention that those humans or species as they'd say have amused themselves to death . True Genius, love ya old man
I always think about this good to know someone else got it l, what a visionary. Check his channel he just released a new take on the bravery of being out of range with new lyrics.
The climax of this song always make want to cry, it's one of those beautiful things in life that makes you keep fighting and embrace life itself, it's a cry, a warrior's cry
Here we are March 2020 sitting at home and watching RW videos.....Over the last 20 years I’ve listened this song to death and still now I get a shiver down my spine as of it’s the first time.
Great performance. I was really hoping that he would perform this song at least on his Us and Them tour, but it was a great show nonetheless. Amused To Death is a fantastic album front to back.
Right? He's set to play here in Brazil on October, same tour, but most likely won't play this song. Really love it. Well, the setlist is amazing nonetheless.
Trained around Mt Hood Gov Camp) for a marathon. The only tape for my walkman was ATD I listened to it over and over and over and its still playing in my head to this day. That and the baby shark song.
Waters is always writing lyrics before their time. See Home on the Radio KAOS album, "Will you accept your second class status A nation of waitresses and waiters Will you mix their martinis Will you stand still for it Or will you take to the hills"
jeffrey rogers David played all guitar parts including the bass on studio recordings of Animals and The Wall. Roger did the lyrics. The great Jeff Beck did some of the guitar work you hear in ATD.
So, not only you are so lucky to be present at this incredible performance, but the best ever singer, the Maestro Roger is performing at His best with Amused to death; and the people behind Him are talking, chatting and disturbing. Are they really understanding what are they assisting to? Not so sure of it...
We have to remember Roger Waters put on rock concerts. People get drunk at rock concerts. When I saw Pink Floyd in 1976 it was festival seating in an arena and the guy in front of me was suffering from a really bad acid trip. I still had a great time at that show.
Great album. And the Great Jeff Beck infusing his unique guitar sounds into the fabric of this wonderful work of art. Even when Waters is political it still comes from the heart.....the music and entertainment industry needs more like him. Artists that stand for something
One thing pinkfloyd hated was American stadium audiences and the noise and shouting over the music. Gilmour spat on the most obnoxious ones. They are incapable of listening to the music and then applauding. They seem to think any quiet bit is fine for making noises. Not talking about this performance as its a small one. I was just listening to an infamous USA tour and it was ruined. Hearing them treated like a boy band or tyke Beatles is so sad. So many fake fans get tickets for the shows by paying whatever. Well it stopped them touring for a long time.
@@PetraKann yes beck is a great guitarist. I'm not going to compare him with Gilmour. They are 2 greats and equally talented and they have different styles but Beck really nails it on the album
Thanks so much for uploading this. I've always wondered how this song would be performed live. That girl up in the balcony (to the left) kept distracting me through out the song :) but I still managed to appreciate this excellent piece of music.
typical american's idiotic clowns they probably don't even know who roger is what a waste of great seats & view , I wish they'd been told to fuck off lol
Totally agree you might as well sit in the back row .Saw roger in London us and them tour paid a lot of money for a VIP ticket. Must of used my phone for about 15 mins just for the memories the rest was a visual experience never to be forgotten. That's why you pay the money.
I love rogers man. But, to our own luck pink floyd has many souls. Rogers admited himself they felt really lost after sys barret got out of thr band, which force him to write. And then golmour came with division bell, which is just great as well. So..many souls brother, many souls.
Daniel Defoe helping Roger out ;-) Nice to see him not have to lipsynch for once, of course there's it much singing in that song, still a great one though !
I prefer Roger doing his solo work. Waters without Gilmour and co, Gilmour, Wrght and Mason without Waters wasn't the same. Brit Floyd do an adequate job of performing Pink Floyd material.
Great song writer and musician ......ironically unknown to the rich stuck up parasites on their phones behind him in this song .....he is singing about that type amusing themselves to death ........try listen and take in some of what he is saying ........
Un disco bellissimo, questa canzone poi.... Peccato che non hanno inquadrato anche gli altri musicisti. Bello come hanno fatto il pezzo finale. Roger è un G R A N D E.
i absolutely cannot believe that woman talking endlessly somewhere in the crowd, the girl upper left who acts like she couldn’t care less. Why do these people go to all the trouble to be here
I met Roger in Rio with Glenn. There are people who stand for peace and cohesion. Here I unfortunately have to say: Neither the EU nor the USA have an interest in peace... The problem lies in the understanding and reports of the conventional, depraved media... Finally wake up and vote for peace. Throw conventional parties out of all parliaments... MIC [Military-Industrial Complex Dominates Worldwide! ...
