See the movie The Sapphires for a beautiful rendition, too. The movie is excellent by-the-way. I took the movie home and my 80 year old mother loved it and said "there should be more movies like that." She also said that the next time I went home with a dvd to watch - the movie won the Oscar that year for best picture - Green Book, what a movie!

Thank you very much for sharing this song. It brings back many memories when I was a child. On long trips as a child we would sing this song. We would rely on our Dad to lead the song so we could remember the words. My childhood wasnt too bad!!

This is a Haitian song, a poem by a great Haitian poet set to music in the 19th century. The song is called Choucoune and is about a lady of that name. The present version in Haiti is called "Ti Zwazo" in Kreyol, the language of Haiti, which means Little Bird,and is pretty well the national song of Haiti.

this song song in Jamaica by Louise Bennett as a Jamaican Folk song. We don;t see much of these birds here now a days. Lovely version

For your information this song is a cover of a poem entitled "Choucoune" which is the work of a Haitian poet named Roswald Durand. It was written in 1883, in the text it praises the beauty of a young Haitian girl. The poem was transformed into music in 1893. And its English version which is "Yellow bird" had been arranged by Norman Luboff in 1957. The creole version wich is the original " Choucoune" is the best.

Heard this as Arthur Lyman’s instrumental version On 45. Didnt hear lyric version till you tube came out.

He sang it life in Frankfurt and it was recorded for a life album. That's how he became famous and sadly forgot all his very good songs, he did before.

I loved this album as a kid, and used to sin g the songs to my kids when they were young, now having two more kids and internet I wanted to show them, but like sharonruth7 I can't find Boa Constrictor or Nasty Spider. This song was lovely to sing to myself but the others are great to make my 3 yr old giggle!
