ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY (2016) MOVIE REACTION - FIRST TIME WATCHING! WOW! 

Hey All, Hope you enjoy this Reaction. We had a really entertaining time together. From one perspective as an Original Trilogy fan and the other being fresher, younger eyes to the franchise. As you can see, we enjoyed the big surprises in it!. In retrospect, we think it's culturally interesting to see these perspectives side by side. There is scope now to view the other Star Wars films. We picked up on a few Easter Eggs in there - but I bet we missed some! We have released this in time for Saturday - so May The 4th Be With You! Ps. There's an Star Wars related photo at the very last 5 seconds of the video, 100 points awarded if you can say where it was taken.

That A NEW HOPE connection was priceless.

I'm 53 now, and distinctly recall seeing all the originals in theatre, and for my entire life, like most of my vintage, 'Empire Strikes Back' was the best Star Wars movie of all time. And then I saw this.

Watching Dad link the story slowly was magical. Especially the Tarkin and Red Five reveal. I assure the experience was identical for me in the theater.

Watching the Dad's face in this reaction video was a treat, especially when Governor Tarkin appears on screen and his jaw fell open. I was cracking up watching you mentally process what you were witnessing... knowing Peter Cushing passed away years ago. It was so easy to see your brain doing the mental math and the numbers just weren't adding up. I loved it! 😆

"They wouldn't kill a main character off just by falling down a pit," we thought that too, until Force Awakens...

"Whooo...." "Shit!" "Bloody Hell!" Yeah. That about sums it up.

As others have said, Andor is incredible. I think that people are underestimating your son honestly. I think he actually would be fine watching it as he has seemed very mature with a lot of his other reactions to other films you have done. He doesn't seem to get bored as easy as other kids his age might.

The Star Wars series "Andor" is all about Cassian Andor's backstory and how he joined the Rebellion.. great series I recommend!

First off... Your son won't probably notice this right now but... I got very choked up when he fantasized about being the scrappy hero helping his dad fight bad guys at the beginning and you react with... Such emotion you can see and you say "I wouldn't want you to" and... You have a good heart sir. You obviously truly love your son very much. I hope you both can maintain this kind of relationship even as you both age. As for this movie... Truly the BEST post ROTS SW film in my opinion. I understand for some it may be too grim but... That's fine. SW is big enough to be interpreted so many ways. It contains multitudes. The creatives crafted a tense, action packed and emotional story with some strong things to say about the personal sacrifices and politics of opposing Authoritarian regimes. Also it is gorgeous to look at. They realized the lived in and grimey look of ANH era. Frankly any break from Jedis and Sith and the force was very welcome. This IS a story of an armed insurrection trying to overthrow a government afterall and that aspect comes through gangbusters. And that is why I understand it HAS to have the ending it does. Luke's success was built on the blood and tears of the movement that came before him. And of course... They didn't abandon the Force characters entirely because... THAT HALL SEQUENCE. Vader was SCARY again. The Empire was scary again in the whole film. I can't praise this movie enough. The exact same creative team for this film sans Edwards, also did ANDOR and while that's also not everyone's cup of tea I would HIGHLY suggest you give that series its day in court. Diego retirns as Andor playing the character before he joined the Rebellion. It's just AMAZING. If this really was your cup of tea give ANDOR whirl definitely. I expect your facial expressions probably matched my own as soon as I finished it during its original release so I think you aree intrigued about this ccorner of the SW universe.

One of the best Rogue One reactions. It was awesome watching Dad make each of the connections to Episode IV. The reaction to the Tarkin reveal was priceless. May the Fourth be will you.

I remember after seeing this in the theater, I wanted go home and watch New Hope. They did a great job of linking it with the original trilogy.

Han and Leia and Luke and Lando are all great... But now these are my favorite Rebels... haha. Oh and Luthen and Marva.

I think this film showed that Star Wars works best in the "Classic" Rebellion vs Empire era. The ships, the vehicles, the fight, it's all just so timeless.

When Mon Mothma asks Bail Organa about the hidden jedi, it´s referring to Obi Wan Kenobi. And when he said "I would trust her with my life" he is talking about Princess Leia, his adoptive daughter. He arranged the plan to bring the plans to Obi Wan through Leia.

In the rebel attack to Scarif, the Red Five pilot died trying to enter in the base. The rebellion chose later a new red five pilot... Luke Skywalker as we witnesses in episode IV and the following. For me, this is one of the best Star Wars films ever. The whole film is incredible: complex characters, narration... and the last fifteen minutes a brutal rollercoaster. Darth Vader here show us how terrific, cruel and evil he could be.

watching your son smile at your reaction, knowing that he knows that this was your childhood and he let you have that moment is so so special! You both have a beautiful bond!

The more memorabilia you brought out, the more I knew you would enjoy this particular film

Your face when you see Peter Cushing is priceless. In the Star Wars Universe (that of the first trilogy) many have a certain belief in The Force, in fact it is the form of an ancient greeting "may the force be with you" (the rebels use it, Leia in A New Hope blesses them before of combat with that phrase), but it is a belief like we can have in God, without really having tangible proof of it. Very few are direct witnesses or have an obvious connection to The Force. Jedis have that strong connection to The Force, and they train to use it. But that does not mean that many do not have a certain connection to a greater or lesser degree, and that they have not been trained in the ways of the Jedi or have followed another discipline to use it.

So VERY cool to see dad's mind blown both when Vader appears and starts cutting through the poor rebel soldiers to the Princess Leia reveal.

In my opinion this movie ranked in the same category with the original 3.

To help fill in the storyline: R2D2 and C3PO were there because Captain Antilles was there. In "Star Wars: A New Hope", C3PO tells Luke that "Our last master was Captain Antilles".

It's very evident in your excitement when showing off your vintage Star Wars items. It's also nice the close relationship you have with your son. Little Fact: Red Leader and Gold Leader were the original actors from Episode 4. They used cleaned up unused footage from Episode 4 to include them in the movie. I wish all Disney Star Wars movies and series were as good as Rogue One. But well... Maybe you both could react to "The Mandalorian". It's the other Star Wars product Disney did right for the most part. I think you would like it too. If you not already seen it.

Your descriptions of the inspirations for the original Star Wars you left out the main one: The Hidden Fortress by Akira Kurosawa. That was the most direct inspiration. But I appreciate the reference to Kelly's Heroes!!!! The kid is smart!

I think this is the best Star Wars movie that Disney has made. It put the “war” in Star Wars! Loved how it connected to A New Hope! Plus the Disney series “Andor” is a prequel to the main guy in this film.

Gentlemen, when I saw this in the theater, Carrie Fisher had just died. When they showed the CGI Princess Leia, I just wept for like 10 minutes. The only thing that is less than perfect for me is that Jen and Andor and then most of the rebel attack squad died in order to destroy the death star but the empire didnt fall, and even a decade later ANOTHER DEATH STAR and 20 years later AN EVEN BIGGER DEATH STAR. We never really get a full feeling of victory.

I was eleven years old when the first Star Wars movie came out, simply titled Star Wars, no episode number, no "A New Hope" until after The Empire Strikes Back came out. It was interesting seeing your old poster, the toys that were available and the VHS. I personally had the X-Wing and Darth Vader's TIE fighter along with several of the action figures. I also binge-bought 155 of the Expanded Universe / Legends era novels in the late 1990s and early 2000s. I think it's so nice that you can share your experiences with your son through these movie reactions. How wholesome.

I found your channel randomly, I like the dynamic you two have.

The nice thing about Rogue One and the Series Andor is that it sheds some more light on what fomenting a rebellion against a serious evil threat like the Galactic Empire might really be like and what it would require of ordinary people to make heroics of Luke, Han, Leia and others even possible. It's incredibly awesome to see. Makes the whole story seem such more real.

The film is intentionally confusing to convey the whole concept of the "fog of war" where no one is to be trusted, people make mistakes and sometimes the best decisions are cruel and ugly in a real war. For example, when Cassian kills the man who gave him the message... he killed him because he could see he was about to be captured by stormtroopers because his arm was broken. He knew the Empire would have tortured him and found out what he knew, so in that moment, killing him was a merciful act. But for most viewers, that is too hard to grasp on the first viewing, we're left not fully understanding why it happened but that's intentional. We're not allowed to fully understand Cassian is really a good guy (forced to do terrible things) who later turns out to be a great hero. That's what war is really like and each time you watch this film, pieces fall in place in your mind and you understand it more. I've watched this film an almost embarrassingly large number of times and it is for me an official addition to the the original "trilogy". For me, it's a perfect Star Wars film. (I was 11 years old in 1977 so, I'm an ORIGINAL fan)

This was such a good movie! And a great reaction, too. I like how each of you picked up on certain things the other didn't and helped each other figure everything out. You two should definitely react to the Disney+ show Andor. It's a prequel to this movie that covers the recruitment of Cassian (among other things). Same main creator as this film and possibly the best season of television that came out that year.

Incredible ending! Everyone realizing securing the Death Star plans was worth any sacrifice.

Hahaha, I loved your reaction to Tarkin showing up. And of course, Leia at the end. It was great, your son was so happy with the movie, asking if you liked it, and you're still just in stunned awe. It really was an amazing movie. It _feels_ like Star Wars, and I realized "everyone's going to die" about the same time you did, when the pilot died. I watched the film in the theater with my kiddo, and I remember at the end when Vader shows up in the hallway, I gasped. I thought, "Oh shit, they're not going to make it." I literally forgot there were 6 other movies. 😂 The movie ends about an hour before Episode IV. In any case, this was a fun reaction, and I loved both of your reactions. There's some needlessly harsh criticisms of the movie, but I really do think if you just sit down to watch it for fun, it really does deliver.

The best 'Star Wars' film since 'Empire' by a country mile.

I was 5yo when Ep IV came out. If this had been the first film in the series to come out instead (& A New Hope the first sequel), I would have been traumatized as a kid. The realization that no one is going to make it out was a kick in the gut seeing it in the cinema.

The connection you make to 'The Hidden Fortress' is certainly apt, especially as the R2-3PO dynamic was itself inspired by the same characters.

Your mind getting blown at the end was EVERYONE in the cinemas. It was such an incredible ending and like Empire, it was tragic. ROGUE ONE might beat out Empire in my book, but I go back and forth pretty regularly.

I'm glad you finally got to see it. Now imagine seeing the Vader badass scene in theaters before it was all over youtube.

those are some pretty cool posters. the toys were a huge part of my childhood. i didn't get the falcon or at-at, though, and so when they released them again in the '90s i bought both as an adult. lol. i wish i still had star wars on vhs. i loaned the og 3 to a coworker who was fired a week later and i never saw him or my movies again.

Tidbit for yas. During the arial fight Red 5 got shot down and killed. Luke, on attack on the Death Star became the new Red 5

I saw this twice in the theater. First time I drove through a snowstorm. (Thankfully my new tires worked.) The second time was just after Carrie Fisher died. I lost it when Leia appeared. Still tear up after all these years. I hope you at least watch the prequels. You might enjoy them more after all these years. Especially Episode 3.

As far as I remember, Donnie Yen (the greatest star contracted for this film) plays a jedi temple guard cadet. The jedi trained him as a child, he is sensitive to the force but can't wield it as a jedi does. He keeps the faith in the force though. I don't remember where I read it, may be a fan theory but sounds good. Great video!

That was a fun reaction. Very cool seeing the generational views of it. The older generation's reaction to seeing CGI Tarkin was fun. They did do a pretty good job on him but honestly I feel they could have just let the actor Guy Henry just do him as himself. This film is a great war film set in the Star Wars universe. even though you know what will happen in the end, there is still a good story to tell. Much like old WWII movies. This movie really showcases that regular people started standing up to the Empire. It would be very interesting to see you guys react to ANDOR. It's an excellent production very much crafted like this film. The storytelling is a bit different so it would be interesting to see what the younger generation thinks. Much more mature and grounded.

I think you would both enjoy Andor… your son is so mature and intelligent. I know a ten year old who likes it. It’s not just a good Star Wars show, it’s one of the best TV dramas of recent years. Light years beyond Obi-Wan Kenobi in terms of quality.

Beautiful reaction, the way your son saw your reaction at the end and paused to give you a second was so wholesome Also I can see you processing on Red 5, his death opened up a space on Red squadron for the next Red 5: Luke Skywalker. Also the squad leader call ins, I could see you thinking there, it was a mix of new footage, footage from A New Hope and cut footage from A New Hope. If you watch closely the quality of the film changes for a second.

in the newer star wars battlefront video game you find out more about the black storm troopers as you play as one in the campaign you find out they are like the special forces of the storm trooper like Storm trooper version of the SAS or Navy Seals

62 here...havent returned to this obsession since the summer of 77...5 times. It was all Star Wars..thought it was a one off pure eye candy... vader spinning off into oblivion...had it's own spoof with Hardware Wars, a disco version of the theme song and the first making of special on television (remember that interrupted an after school band practice) For me this reset the trilogies...Andor > Rogue One > Star Wars (aka new hope)

when you started talking about the sequel trilogy, I was going to make a comment about how they did not think it out, which was the problem and then you said it spot on. This would have been so good if they had an outline. We want to go from this point and end at this point. Because what happened is they brought in these different directors, they wanted to take their own spin on the story, and everything just felt jumbled and incoherent.

I think that ROGUE ONE is the best of all the STAR WARS movie made from Disney/Lucasfilm, and, had the best final battle in ALL the STAR WARS movies. I'm angry that I've been waiting 8 years for a sequel to ROGUE ONE, because I want to know what they did after they got the plans.

If you want exceptionally written Star Wars, watch Andor. It’s easily the best written live action Star Wars since the Disney acquisition.

REACT TO THE PREQUELS! If you don't like them at least let your son see them. I'm sure he's going to love them. The lightsaber battles are so much more epic.

So, there are two shows that really connect with this movie (and are both excellent in their own way in my opinion). 1. Star Wars: Rebels, a animated series more designed for kids though I think it has more than enough content for adults as well AND it actually is in my opinion the single biggest source of Lore in modern day StarWars (yes, even more than the much more famous Clone Wars animated Series, at least in my opinion, since this one is important for the time-period of the original trilogy where most modern productions take place). I think Rebels actually has some of the best new characters in StarWars (characters that weren't created through the original trilogy). It also has quite good stories and almost more importantly incredible World Building if you really look deeper. The only gripe I have is that some more serious scenes can fall a bit flat, probably somewhat due to this still being a kids show 2. Andor, the Live-Action Series that shows us Casian Andor and other important people of the Rebellion from 5 years BBY (Before Battle of Yavin, so before Rogue One and the Original Trilogy) until right up to Rogue One (in the second season that is not out yet). I think based on the fact that you two really got invested in some deeper aspects of Rogue One as well, that you both could really enjoy this show. It is a bit slower but that only emphasis everything it's good at, specifically the drama, character-interactions and world building. - Both shows are I think the best two shows out there for StarWars right now and they both expand the world extremely well, especially for this time-period and in the case of Rebels even beyond it. - Both shows actually start at the same time (5 BBY) though Andor will with it's second season be a bit further along in the timeline (Rebels stops in about 1 BBY at the end of it's forth season)

You really should watch the prequels I didn't like them that much when I first saw them but the older they get the better that get. Plus it tells the earliier lore of the Skywalkers

Couldn't agree more regarding the sequel trilogy. It's so frustrating that they didn't have a story outline stretching over all three films. (I just cannot understand how one can set out to make a trilogy but does not think about the main plot points of the whole story before starting with the first film...) The actors are great, the production value is obviously high but the story is an incohesive, inconsistent mess. And because of that it feels like Disney didn't care about Star Wars or its fans. "Rogue One" is great, though. --- On another note: Do you know "A Goofy Movie"? It's a funny and heartwarming story about the love/relationship between father and son and how it changes when the little one grows up. Might be a good fit for you. ;)
