Good evening, Ram and Ram Fam. 🐏 👑 SOTD Pineward Fanghorn II. Liked this one a lot. Starts green and turns brown and smoky... Just like Autumn. I don't know if that was the intention, but it's one of the most brilliant transitions in perfumery I've experienced. It convinced me to pass on a bottle of Hendley Bloodline.
Great Review Ramsey! Agree with all you said, I was expecting the angry Ram but you were pretty generous with it. I have a bottle and wore it a few times and as you said some of your friends say that Roja's lacks the challenging part, it is too easy and I felt the same about this one. I put my bottle up for sale but now I will hold on to it and wear it.
I smelled this one early on in my frag journey and was blown away by it. I still reach for it a couple times in the cooler weather but I suspect I'll sell it off at some point in the future. Like you said, there's so many great real ouds from jinx/areej/ensar that I just don't find this one as impressive as I once did. Great review!
Thanks a lot for this Ram! I do really like this one as a Gourmand - but then again, I do like gourmands. But I view it only as that, and not really an oud I got a sample of it lurking and it always puts a smile on my face when smelling it and it's "pastriness" hits. For a "gourmand" Oud I'd still stick with Russian Oud from Areej le Doré though 😁Cheers!
Now this is a gourmand I enjoy ! Although using the name Aoud is just to add to the middle eastern story which he explains in every possible interview !! “Oh I studied Aoud in Dubai and I was offered sweets and pastries and I captured it in this bottle “ bla bla bla.. it’s like he’s memorised everything like he’s prepared for some exams ! He doesn’t change a word almost ! Oh they’re asking about Enigma , let me read out the paragraph that I memorised from Page 5 in my handbook 😂 Sweetie Aoud , oh that’s Page 7 and on ! “Master of Aoud “ - Never knew Rojer Bird has a sense of humour at this high level 🤣
Cheers Rams, it’s a Roja bouncing off a Roja whilst taking from Guerlain, sounds about right . The man is a peculiar genius of sorts. Gotta give him his dues 👍🤛👊
You’re spot on with the note comparison between PDLN3 and Sweetie Oud. There have been countless times where I’ve smelled the dry down of a Roja fragrance and thought, "Wait a minute, I’ve smelled this somewhere before." Certain Roja fragrances always remind me of each other from time to time. Sweetie oud and PDLN3 are very good example. Cheers!
@@juliscent In my opinion, PDLN3 is the superior choice. However, unless you have a strong preference for notes like cumin and leather, you’ll enjoy SA just fine. Additionally, PDLN3 tends to be quite expensive, so it’s only worth considering if you can find it at a discounted price.
Roja's 'Pierre de Velay' is just a rebranding of some of his Semi-bespoke perfumes... because when he started out in 2005, he was a perfume commissioner for personalised perfumes, and for a hefty sum, you would receive your own exclusive creation in a refillable bottle 100ml and also an aluminium 1000ml flask... it was marketed for special occasions, like weddings / anniversary's etc. i know a collector who has a set of diaghilev before it had that name (a bespoke number) This was all before he launched his line of perfumes in 2010. And yes i do have first dibs if he ever sells the set 😆
I am definitely on your team when it comes to hating sweeter fragrances. Really don't like it. But this one was kinda interesting. Would I buy it ? don't think so as I like brighter scents. It might be the only gourmand I'd be able to wear if I was forced to do so tho. On another note, is there a Burlington review on the way ? 😁
I just got Roja Sweetie Aoud earlier this month! I love it so far!!! I went to this fancy mall on a vacation, and got to try it at Neiman Marcus. I fell in love with it when I got my nose on it! I still wasn't going to buy it, but I did.
It’s nice, I like the idea. It really smells like patisserie for a moment, but something is not clicking for me, I’m not a fan of gourmand fragrances. I can smell many notes and it’s a detailed fragrance, but not quite for me. If someone gave me a bottle, I think I would sell it and get two or three Papillons 😂 Btw, Roja put this in a 100ml bottle recently, which was not available before, it must be a good seller. Cheers!
I've only gotten my nose on Sweetie Oud very briefly, in passing, without a test wear. My immediate comparison off the top was Serge Lutens Jeux de Peau.
I like this one and I dig gourmands, to an extent, but even at like $250/50ml that you can sometimes grab this for on the secondary, it wasn't a pick up for me. It's a bit jumbled for me - not knowing where it wants to go (somewhere between that sweet syrup and that Roja oud base...reminds me of Qatar in that sense. Not scent-wise but in its jumbled-ness).
Pretty nice, but I sold mine. The gourmand aspect in this is always vastly overstated imo. It's very spicy, the pastry vibe is a minor facet on my skin. I don't find it cozy or comforting at all (probably mostly due to the cardamom). Sultanate Of Oman >
Hello, we have them both Sweetie Aoud and Sultanate of Oman. They smell really nice and wearable. Julia loves more Sweetie Aoud for the gourmand opening. I enjoy them equally. Sweetie Aoud performs better and is longer lasting. If croissants would be removed from Sweetie, it would smell even more similar to Sultanate of Oman.
