Thank you for covering this. I hope he can recover and get back on his feet soon. The online reaction has been unbelievably harsh, especially if he is injured in some ways. People can be so cruel. His only "sin" seems to be expressing his desire to play in the MLB. One would think he committed a crime the way people have been harping on him.

A Starting pitcher that can’t stay healthy? Sounds like a Dodger to me

Ive been following roki this season, and seeing how the japanese media has been dealing with him has been super eye opening. The way they create narratives and run with them as fact with minimal evidence is genuinely scary. I wonder if anyones considered talking about this topic as I saw some other teams have also had issues with certain jmedia outlets this year.

100% agree. And I don't understand why Lotte is not protecting him more. If he's damaged, PR wise, it can't be good for them, either.
@brittneyrechalle6719
@brittneyrechalle6719 3 месяца назад
Yea it's really confusing. I know another team specifically said they won't deal with a certain publication anymore because of the false narratives they were creating. I wish lotte would do the same. criticism is expected, but some of the stories about his additude for instance are just straight up assumptions on ppls part being pushed as fact.

Interesting observation about the splitter. I was convinced the first time I watched him last year for the Mets that Kodai Senga was throwing his forkball different to righties and lefties. So it might be the case that Sasaki is doing the same thing...or I'm just seeing things.

Possibly hot take: I think Sasaki needs to stay in Japan for at least 3 more seasons to develop as a pitcher. If he moves to the MLB too soon, they will simply suck him dry. There is a reason Japanese pitchers are comparatively strong (and I know some people are going to question if they *are* comparatively strong. This is a hot take, ok? :-) ). I'd like him to do well, but at least from the games I've seen him play, he's got a very high chance of burning out if too much demand is placed on him. I think his team is doing the right things for him and he would be foolish to abandon them.

Sorry but if you can’t make it through a full season in Japan how in the world would he make it through a full MLB season? He will either be a starter that pitches 80 to 115 innings per season while never being healthy for the playoffs, Or he will be all lights out closer.

I think it's sort of understandable that he has some critics as he's not pitched enough for his team
@jykim3604
@jykim3604 3 месяца назад
That's a fair point, but I am not talking about legitimate criticism. People are reporting outrageous rumors and conspiracies about some ad agency and/or his family without evidence, and online commenters have been gleefully piling on. I just hope all this doesn't inflict a lasting damage to his reputation or image.

If he comes to MLB he’ll deff need to get to atleast 140 innings a year regular season plus maybe 20 30 post season innings wouldn’t be surprised if he has great ACL damage ether tho and maybe that’s actually the reason why he hasn’t been pitching

He's not worth as much as Yamamoto yet
@jykim3604
@jykim3604 3 месяца назад
No one is worth what Yamamoto got, including Yamamoto himself. The MLB needs a salary cap. Otherwise, it's a continuing race to the unsustainable.

@@jykim3604 There are a bunch of players who are making more than Yamamoto per year... People look at the whole contract and ignore yearly AAV. As long as revenue goes up, the contracts will go up. There is 0 reason why contracts shouldn't be higher if teams keep making more. Unless you are saying all that money should just go straight to the owner instead. Give the players the money they are earning for the sport.

@@jykim3604mlb doesn’t need a cap . What they need is to pressure all this other owners who cry about not having money for players when there billionaires . What’s ruining the game is all other small market teams are fine with being a .500 team or less

@@SuperCatacata Yes but but the Dodgers take it to an extreme because they have the money to do it. Not every team can afford 10 starters hoping to have 3 healthy ones by the playoffs. Also I think having Japanese talent spread out in the MLB is good for baseball. Not all on one team.
