My grandfather was killed in this war fighting for the British in 1917. I have a photo of him and my grandmother on their wedding day, both young and beautiful, unaware of what was to come. Once when I was a young boy in the 1960s she told me she still missed him.

This scene made me cry so hard. It’s the vulnerability that gets me. Vera was willing to do anything to get Roland to be at peace. It was so beautiful.
Kit's acting in this scene is amazing. I love seeing him outside of the Game of Thrones world. This was one of my favorite moments throughout the movie. Especially when she tells him not to destroy what is left of his heart. That moment gets me every time because men that have been in war, never come back the same. Thanks for uploading. ❤️

This is why combatant's spouses alway being warned if their millitary husband/wife just come back from the frontlines. The ptsd might make them killed their spouses.
I could be wrong, but as someone who deals with horrible things at work, my reading as that he has bravado and is trying to be ‘hard’, and he doesn’t want to let love in as it could make him ‘soft’, which will make it harder to go back to war.
You realise he was like 19yrs old back then, right??? you would go mad if you see the things his eyes saw at that age... and by the way, his friends had been in his life before Vera, so calm ur tits romance boy
