I love the older Cube amps. I have the Micro and the 20X. Both are phenomenal practice amps, and do a decent job at recording. The only knock against them is when you go above halfway on the volume. That rich, lush sound gets small and boxy real quick.
@@kakerusatsuki8791 I was looking at the katana and the black series too, I ant a looper and drum machine on it, any recommendations? Just looking for a smaller amp, that katana mini sounded really nice, that katana air is to pricey now I think for me
Thank you good sir! Because of your honest reviews i got the 20gx and i`m fairly satisfied. Not the best thing in the world, but really good for living room jamming and quiet jamming when the kids are asleep. Please keep up the amazing work! I love your approach and honesty. A rarity nowadays.
My favourite setting on my microcube is Brit Combo (which I think is modelled on some kind of Vox). But on my Cube 40gx I really like to stay on that Tweed setting. It has a nice kind of interesting 'edge' to the sound - hard to describe. I know this is a matter of personal taste - but the GX does give plenty of usable options to choose from.
Hello Elmo - I began looking for a Cube shortly after watching your review(s). I had gone through several other amps - a Mustang, an old Traynor amp, a Crate, and was dissatisfied with all of them. I found a Cube 15XL for just 60 USD on Marketplace and am extremely happy with it. I also subsequently purchased an Ibanez GRG121SP, thanks again to your review. I appreciate your channel and really enjoy your reviews and content. Thank you, and cheers!
I love my micro cubes and this is not much different. Recently having watched many pedal boards and effects units in use (blame Dave Simpson) I bought a Mooer GE 100 at less than £70 new. After much angst trying to learn how to use it I find it works brilliantly as a front end to a micro cube and also my 75 watt line 6 amps through their clean channels . No need to spend fortunes. Not professional level sounds but good enough for practice :) .
Elmo thank you for another wonderful video! This was a pleasant way to start off my work week. I agree this sounds pretty fantastic. Especially with you playing through it. When I got to the rectum-fryer I thought to myself "This isn't too bad" and was happy that you agreed. I also felt the same way about what you said concerning the Katana. I don't own one, and as I have the original CUBE 80XL I see no need to to join that cult. 🎸🤘😜🤘🎸
The app is OK and I appreciate your thorough review. But what is really outstanding (other than your obvious talent) is that awesome guitar. I have never seen a mahogany Strat and even better with a scalloped fretboard. Totally awesome! As would be expected with a mahogany body it has a really sweet tone. Thanks for the review.
Back in 1980 G&L made a F-100 strat with a mahogany body and dual humbuckers, I think it was Leo Fender's take on a Les Paul, I have a left-handed one I special ordered in 1981. Cherry red with a maple neck, great guitar.
Mulla on toi Cube30X ollut varmaan 15v vähintään. Puhdas soundihan on maailman paras Jazz Chorus.
I had one of these. I remember liking it but I remember it was very dark and not very tight. But I dont remember why I got rid of it. Anyways thinking about getting another one. I remember these being way fatter and fuller sounding than most other amps in this price range. Its funny the sound that you recorded sounds exactly like them amp. You did a great job with that.
Had I been in the market for a smaller amp, this would have been on my "want-list". I do find that the cubes are better with humbuckers though, which is a letdown since I prefer single coils. A stacked humbucker is the perfect monster, but I still own a guitar with traditional single coils. Not a very simple equation when you possess one of each pickup-style (maybe a future topic for you?) 🤔. As always a clear and honest review. And Still well played Elmo Pull My Finger Karjalainen 👌😊
Hmm I'm still looking for versatile, small and reasonably good sounding amp (headphones input required). I was thinking to spend slightly more euro: Boss Katana Head MKII 100W (many features and great practice with internal speaker and add separate cabinet if needed), Blackstar HT-5R MKII (valve amp with many features), Yamaha THR30II (wireless All-in-One but $$$) and Mooer SD30. Any suggestions?
thank you very much. the way you play i am sure you make everything sounding good. can i ask how you think it compares with the Joyo DC15S, the hornet 30W and the Marshall MG15 GFX? I am about to purchase one and i deeply trust your judgment.
great review and great playing dude. How do you think the cube 10GX is different from the micro cube tone wise? I'm thinking about getting either the micro cube or the 10GX
Hi Elmo, fist thanks for your quality content and also your honest reviews.what would you consider as the brilliant alternative ? something good and reliable ? solid state for home practice. I have the micro cube which i like a lot but im looking for something a bit bigger
I’m having trouble on which I should go with this or the micro cube they both sound really good to me I just want to have a good practice amp if you had to choose Elmo which one would you pick?
Hey Elmo, have you done a review on the fender champion 40? It's only $60 dollars more than the roland and has a 12 inch speaker. In my opinion it's the best practice amp on the market and no apps to mess with all the effects are at your fingertips.
@@bradleestone5344 the super champ is good but only has a ten inch speaker and when you get in that price range I don't consider it a practice amp but that's just me. The champion 40 is solid state but sounds great and if you're practicing you'll probably be playing at low volume most of the time and a solid state is best for that anyway.
@@MrPolevaulter they've killed off all of the bigger ones though, just the Micros, 10GX, and the Streets. So they're only really targeting practice and busker markets with the remaining Cubes. Which is a big shame, imo. The bigger Cubes are a far more rugged for gigging than the Katana and do clean sounds much better.
Boss blues driver sounds good with most any usable amp clean channel ever. Of course if didn't suit your style then most online sites offer free return within 14 days.
@@MrPolevaulter nice video though! have you tried the roland 40gx cube? if so, how do they compare? they dont make the 40gx anympre so i was wondering if this is a good close second?
Great demo. That song superstitious. Made me think of the disco days. Hated that crap. 😂, although that song was ok. This is the amp I just about purchased for home, but thought why when I like the katana and for another 100 bucks I could gig with it as well, tree and I personally like the sound of it. I have the newer mk2 50 watt which lets you use a modeler after the preamp and has variations of all the amp models now. I did have the first one, but sold it. Next I think I'll get a modeler of some type. Just for messing with and to record maybe for fun. Hope all is well my friend. Great review. Great little amp! One could do much worse for a practice amp.⁷
Do you think the roland cube 10gx is better than the micro cube 10gx? it has more presents using the app and has 8 inch speaker, but does that mean an overall better sound?
It actually didn't sound too terrible from here although when you upped the bass it did sound like you put a couple of winter socks over the speaker. I don't much like small amps though. I like to move more air than they're capable of. If you live in an environment where you need to keep the noise down it's ok I guess. For the price, it's ok for the youngsters.
My Katana MKII 50 would chew that thing up and spit it out plus yes it significantly heavier but it does low Vol practice and you can Gig with it !! Cant believe you compared the Two . Not a Boss Fan Boy I have a Marshall and some Older Laney & Randell , Soldano Heads . But for practice and small Gigs the B-K MKII 50 cant be beat and the price is fantastic for what you get ....
@@MrPolevaulter i'm a knob fan. especially the potentiometer of Roland micro cube are move-trimmed, the go good without being too wobbly.i don't wanna use an iPhone for searching the effects..this is a time waste..for me
Elmo Karjalainen I just purchased a micro cube and I’m loving it! I tried allot of modeling amps and non ( for me) came close to the response and tone of the cube. I play with vst on my computer but I was tired of looking at the screen and turning on my whole set up. The micro cube is just plug and play, and it’s inspiring me to get a real tube and a few pedals. May I ask, is there a reason why you prefer the cube series over any other modeling amp?
Personally i thought this was a great review of this amp. He was honest about the effects (somewhat passable) and while his playing is extremely good, i thought this amp actually did highlight his skills thereby signifying that this amp will support superior playing with great note definition.
