I just got a Fantom 88 key recently. I am a self taught player so my skills are limited. The techno end of it, like what you are doing in this video is where I struggle. I don't comprehend this stuff too well. I hope to start absorbing this stuff as I continue to watch your vids and I also watch Ed Diaz from Roland. Thanks for your tutorial vids. I am sure one day it will start clicking. I love my Fantom by the way. I had the Korg Nautilus but wanted the Fantom. So I gave the Nautilus to my daughter and I now have the Fantom.
Were da heck did you come from!? No dumb intro video .. no useless babble...just straight to brass tacks! Ive done the cheesy “like and subscribe” and look forward to your other videos on the Fantom. I picked up an F8 the second day it was released after never having used a fantom before. I’m a hardware guy and Roland fanboy and i will admit the learning curve on the F8 is high for me (AKAI MPC is my foundation) just like the Jupiter 80 still is (and I’ve had it since it launch). Anyway thank you sir for this video. Explained in a very laymen kinda way for my simple ass to comprehend. Much appreciated !!!!!!!
This is a very helpful video if you're just getting started with TREC recording. And certainly worth the "thumbs up" for such a help. Subscribing and thank you.
Awesome video! I just picked up a Fantom 8 and have been searching for good instructional videos. Your videos are excellent! You are very clear and to the point. Thank you very much. I have subscribed and look forward to more videos.
Very.. Select drum kit you like and than press Param button which is in the synth area, hands on control you will go in to drum kit editing view. There you will tons of drum editing possibilities.
Thanks so much for all of these videos, I have used Roland gear for 25 years and shifted to a KORG Kronos 2 years ago but I have struggled with programming it, my Phantom 7 arrives tomorrow.
Yes, and you can import the orchestral sounds from there SRX cards for free. The SRX cards are a set of 15 dedicated sound cards that you would install into particular Roland keyboards to get really good samples for specific categories like Pianos, strings, orchestra, world sounds, brass, etc.
@@scottsherman4648 Thanks for the reply! I played a Fantom at guitar center but wasn't blow away by the orchestral sounds, I don't think that it had the expansions installed. Do the symphony and and orchestral expansions sound better than stock sounds? Also, is there a full orchestra? I haven't been able to find timpani...
;-) thank you very much 😊 awesome Looking forward for your step recording video next. On Akai Mpc live or X, velocity change can be done easily on a touchscreen with one finger. Just move up & down the finger what velocity value you want. Surely soon this be possible on Fantom too. Else this way it’s way time taking.
is there a way to transpose a pattern sequence? let's say that i created the song in C and i will play for a singer that sing this song in G and i don't want to recreate the entire song in G
As a new Fantom 7 owner and a newbie keyboard player I truly appreciate your videos, but would you please slow down a little bit or at least explain each step. I know it may be hard for you to do that since it comes so natural to you but to a newbie it is a different story. Screen is hard to see, so please tell each sound you are choosing or each note you are entering etc. so we can make a better sense of everything by doing the exact same thing you're doing! Still your time and efforts are much appreciated!!! Thank you... I have no idea why Roland didn't come with full video tutorials on everything related to their $4000 worth newest synthesizer designed and operates under a completely new system? Roland should have and pay you as their video instructor! I hope your videos keep coming...
Great video, I'm quite familiar with my fantom after a few months of use but one thing I can't work out is how to copy things in tr rec mode. I do know that you can hold shift and increase length and that will copy the last 4 bars, but let's say I have an 8 bar loop going with variations, how can I copy those 4 bars to make an 8 bar loop within tr rec. I get that I could go out into piano roll and copy it there but I'm hoping there is a way to do it in the step sequencer. Any help would be appreciated.
RANDY JUDAH TORREZ ❤< What happens to the original scene when i pick one to work on my original material a sONg? 🤔 can i retrieve it can you elaborate? I have subscribed Thank you 😊
Great demo!! Please could you help me with a simple information? Do you know how can I enable the multi-trigger on the GATE (1-2) outs? In mine it only generates a GATE OUT signal when the fisrt note is pressed. If I kept this first note pressed and press others, no more GATE signals are produced.
One thing I can’t figure is how to easily extend that one bar loop into a two bar loop. You’d think it’d be easy to do but the Fantom doesn’t do it. go figure?
In your opinion, can the drums/drum sequencing replace a TR-8S? Particularly if your interest is in song writing (rock/pop) and not live dj-ing or EDM trance kinda stuff...?
Well, I can answer that question by saying that I sold my TR-8s within a couple of weeks of receiving my Fantom-7. The one feature I miss is the ability to import samples and create my own drum kits. You can sort of work around that with the sample pads, but it's a kludge,. If/when Roland updates the Fantom with multi-sampling capability, this won't be an issue.
Sorry to bother you, what is the easiest way to get the metronome going with a piano tone to practice? Given the nice action, my daughter uses the fantom to practice when she can't be on the grand piano, but we don't know how to get a metronome going with a piano tone so that she can turn on the metronome and change the tempo as she practices her scales, exercises, and songs. Thank you. The easier that she can get to it the better. Sometimes we are in a rush, and it would be nice for her to just turn on the fantom, maybe press something like a scene and start practicing. Is that possible, or does she have to go through elaborate steps every time to get a metronome going. I offered to get her a digital piano bc the metronome buttons are always upfrton and center, but she really likes the fantom sounds lol.
The metronome is really only useful while recording. A good solution for your purpose is to create a Scene for practice purposes: Setup a Piano on Zone 1, and record a simple one-bar loop on Zone 10, using a closed high hat or woodblock sound, with 1/4 note "hits". You may want to create one in 4/4 time, and another in 3/4, etc.
@ZTAudio say I setup the high hat on zone 10, is it easy to change the tempo of the hat, say from 80bpm when she's playing her scales to 100bpm right after when she's plays a song. If that's not possible to do on the fly. Would it be easier to insert the output of an external metronome to the fantom inputs and hear the input as she plays a piano tone? Or does that take too many steps? She's 8 so I'm trying to make it as simple as possible.
I've been working with the OS 2.1 update for a few days now. If I think I have anything unique or interesting to say about it, I'll likley do a video. Thanks for the kind words.
Is it possible to make depending on in moment playing note? If i play C chord pattern play in C (basses and leads), if i play Am chord after C, pattern switch to play Am (drums don't change, but basses and leads change to Am). Sorry for my English
The Fantom is not an "arranger" type of instrument, so it does not do what you are (probably) specifically asking. It does have an arpeggio feature which will - of course - alter the arpeggio to whatever keys (or chords) you play.
It seems cumbersome compared to my yamaha motif. I prefer tracks with easy integration with a DAW. This instrument has the musician pressing buttons everywhere just to do a simple recording.
The Fantom workflow is definitely different from the Motif/Montage/MODX. However, if you're using Logic, it's deeply integrated, and you can operate the DAW pretty seamlessly from the Fantom panel & screen. I'm not sure what you mean about "pressing buttons everywhere". You can pretty much hit [RECORD} and go if you like. I'm not demonstrating that in this video ... maybe that's something you were expecting to see. FWIW: I find the Fantom MUCH easier to use than the sequencer on the Montage/MODX.
When you selected the sounds/tones, I couldn‘t spot a *search* input field on the touch screen (like on the Montage/MODX). No search for 3000+ sounds? Please tell me this isn‘t true.
This is sadly true. It's not as HUGE an issue as you might think, as it's easier to navigate through the sound categories than on a MODX (for instance). Still ... Roland should strongly consider implementing such a feature, especially as sound engines and other features are added.
When you change length from 1 to 4 or 16 etc, there's no option to copy repeat the original notes over. They are all blank. . And the advertised piano roll editing is non existent.
@@ZTAudio yes, and the screen jumps around to another place when you do delete a note...if you are not dead center on a measure frame... The sequencer is very much unfinished business. No sample sequencing or multi samples yet. And dont mention time or pitch manipulation haha or audio. But the fantom has huge potential.
@@Talentocubano Not in the short term. I have a feeling there will be a few more updates which will improve or change sequencer editing functions. I'm waiting to see if/when that happens. When the sequencer is in a "nearly complete/stable" condition ... then I'll do a video.
