The most amazing factor when I listen to roland synths is you Scott Tibbs. You're still from far the most amazing guy from roland I can listen to ; still listens to your jaw dropping demos on the fantom XR i have here, still today. Thanks for being with them for so long, there is really something sensitive in the roland sounds I can't find anywhere else and that you capture so well.
Cool! New Fantom is gorgeous! I would like buy this workstation instead my Roland FA-06. But now price is a little bit high, so I have to wait some years)
Why can’t you play your samples on the keyboard so it has touch sensitivity and you can map different samples. I mean E-Mu samplers we’re doing this in the 80’s. I don’t understand why they have to be sent to Pads without sensitivity…just why.
Thank you for the video. Would you please be so kind enough as to consider doing a review of the Roland Fantom 2019? It's not just a workstation, but I believe a fully fledged synthesizer. To celebrate their 50th anniversary, they've added a new wavetable engine to the keyboard. I really like it. Thank you!
Im a Roland Fantom user and tried it all from the first Fantom Fa 76, fantom X, fantom G, FA 06 and 08.. also an integra 7 user. All i can say about this new fantom, its great if you use it integrated with computer/VST.. Also the new controls makes it better.. but i still need to try it in person before deciding getting it which is i always do before buying a new synth.. in terms of sounds, theres really nothing new on sounds coz the sounds ive heard on this demo can be produced by any other synths/modules if you are only giving time on how to edit your ADSR( Advance delay sustain and release).. Lastly im still interested with this new synth. The outputs and new computer connections are great to have. The touch screen is not amZing coz we know this is old technology, even the korg trinity from the 90s has that touch screen already. Thanks Roland. i dont know if does it have a smooth transition? Hope it does coz you are too late.
ok so it has one piano sound.. some of the synth sounds sounds like they go back to late 1970s and the early 19980s, you know the old big truck horn sound..he he he lol.. where are the Ep-piano, acoustic piano, brass, woodwind, strings, D-50 and organ sounds?
With SOOOO many options, it's time for Roland to implement voice commands. Maybe team up with Apple/Siri through wifi/bluetooth. "Siri, bring up the Plucky sound from (name of song)."
The sequencer this one has is what's missing off the FA-06/8. It's means you can use it for building drum patterns etc. Maybe we should nickname this one the Fantom Ableton?
Questions: 1. Click out for a drummer? 2. How much Internal Flash memory for samples? How much space User area contain ? 3. How those SCENES are operated from ? Touch Screen only or knobs/pedals Live Stage use? 5. Are Scenes similar to Studio Sets? ( not ridiculously limited to 64 like on Intagra 70 4. Is there a Simultaneous use of USB /MIDI 5 pin out ? 5. Does new Fantom support old Fantom/ Fa /Jupiter sounds integration (Expansions) 6. Seamless voice transitions? Thanks!
Ivan Jochner - yes Seamless, but might not work on V-piano, like on RD-2000. Scenes are Studio Sets with 2 extra effects and the analog filter. You can set zones for external softsynths too, like the RD-2000 does, and it has 500+ scene memories. It has a Scene chain mode for live, but it looks pretty basic.
@@xp50player How come not on V-piano? The brand new thing? So ONE Scene is a ONE Studio Set with up to 16 splits? (Not just Scene of 16 voices, right?) There is click out , just watched Scott Tibs new video there is explanation. (Polyphony of each section would be nice to know and quality of acoustic sounds, cause on Integra 7 woodwinds suck a lot, the reason i sold it)
@@ivanyokhna I think there's a technical limitation with seamless patch change with the V-piano. Yes, a scene contains up to 16 splits. I believe there is 2GB of sample memory.
So THAT'S what that green light means, under "USB audio." It's external. It's always red on mine. I couldn't find anything in the owner's manual about it.
Are the 16 pads velocity sensitive and pressure sensitive like the Fantom G(Can we play channel 10 drums on it, or only clip launch)? Are you incorporating Variphrase like the V-Synth GT/XT/VariOS ? Show me for Sample chopping and mangling. Will it be able the load Supernatural sounds and articulations?, the Fantom G could use 2 Supernatural Sound Cards out of 3 (ARX drums, ARX keys, ARX Brass) ; I could plug my guitar to the Fantom G and get a perfect replication of the JC-120 Jazz Chorus guitar amplifier. IS THIS REALLY A FANTOM? No sample back recording. If it doesn't have all of this I ain't paying $ 3k+, and pretty of a board as it is. I am waiting for a real successor to the Fantom G.
I found out that the “tone machine” feature of the Kontakt 5 sampler can behave a lot like VariPhrase, and automated with Logic X. They should be able to do this on the FANTOM. Until Roland can do more, am not salivating at the mouth for the FANTOM, the old fantomG is still a beast. People complaint about the Montage not having VIrtual Analog, but they stuck to what they know best, FM. For the purist, VA still have aliasing issues. Even though It has come a long way. About the TR drum machine, I can get a used USB powered Arturia BeatStep Pro, for $200, and get the same thing and CV outputs.
The Roland board dream team is, a V Synth GT, a FANTOM G with ARX brass and drums, and integra 7. Bro/Sis that’s all you need. I wouldn’t even look at this new FANTOM. If you want to spend 4k$ Just do it in the used market for the older boards and supernatural module. My Korg PA4x is better for gigging that this FANTOM. If Roland doesn’t get their act together, my money is going toward a MPC X and Integra 7. The MPC Force is a great option for stand alone Ableton type sequencing. which I will I am trying to avoid, but eventually will drink the Coolaid and join the collective as well, resistance is futile.
I played this keyboard its amazing but it is extremely HEAVY this is not a gigging keyboard without a road crew. Now Roland needs to redo the FA with those features.
he didn't answer your question because Roland HAS no answer.....and in spite of all the software upgrades they have made in the last year or so, the sequencer's limitations has NOT been addressed....
I wonder if you can record audio from say your guitar into the fantom 8 direct while making a song. Looks like you can using a mic. Not sure if you could hook a electric guitar straight in.
David Bowie, on one interview, stated that his band would get a new synthesizer and immediately toss the manual in the trash. They found it much more interesting tweaking knobs till they got the sound they wanted.
Really important question if anyone can answer me. Do I need a external playback device to hear my sounds? It doesnt play out the sounds out loud right? Or is mines just broken?
My aging Fantom X needs a buddy. I am not completely sold yet but I am looking into this new Fantom to see if it fits the bill. I really liked the audio recording features and the number of MIDI and audio tracks of the Fantom G but missed that. Looks like this Fantom does not offer those number of tracks and the price is well...$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. We will see.
Hi, great introduction. However, can this beast be used as an audio interface as well and, further, can the sounds off this keyboard be recorded onto DAW as is possible with latest Yamaha flagships ? Thanks .. 😊
The tonewheel organ hasn't been added to the Fantom. Scott works deep with Roland R&D and probably said it as an Easter egg. It was probably supposed to released with the following year but due to Covid or other reasons the engineers weren't able to add that feature in. But it is speculated to come soon. Edit, it has been implemented in version 2.5
Hey Scott! How’s the ukulele on this thing?😂😂😂 yes, I’m bitter that you reviewed it on the Integra 7 demo instead of showing more of what the electric guitars could do. Does the Fantom have a strumming engine?
ok so it has one piano sound.. some of the synth sounds sounds like they go back to late 1970s and the early 19980s, you know the old big truck horn sound..he he he lol.. where are the Ep-piano, acoustic piano, brass, woodwind, strings, D-50 and organ sounds?
Good question! I would love for someone in the know to answer this one! How about the Nord too? The Yamaha Genos is 2,000 more than the Korg and Roland high end -- is that a fair comparison?
Tigerex966 Alright the thing is there is no such thing as the best it’s what is right for you . Yeah, there could be areas were most of these keyboards have better sounds then the other but at the end of the day if you have a laptop you have software plugins to back you up but man I have a montage 8 once you get one of these synthesizers you would look at it like there is no need to upgrade and none is better than the other. Just take what’s easy for you to use and master it to it’s full potential don’t waste 5000$ just to use a piano sound you’re wasting money
I'm not sure how you would go about transferring actual waveforms from one machine to another unless you had two synths using the same engine. As far as transfering samples, it appears to only let you load samples into the pads. Although, i think the drum kits are sample based, so there must be a way.
@@GypsyPaz Yes, I was referring to importing samples to use through the synth engine. As I understand it, the predecessor FA range does not currently allow for it either. But strangely the JunoDS does.
It's all about what you prefer what is right for you now how many features does a board has that makes you want to buy it because I'm pretty sure you're not going to use all it's features am i right?
Montage, Kronos, Fantom. All powerful, can basically do everything you need. But they all have their own flavor, style and design. Choose that which you feel suits you the best. I believe I would go with Roland this time.
I used my brand-new Fantom-6 workstation and the Juno-106 plugin (Roland Cloud) (and of course Logic X Pro) for the production of a cover version of 'Around the Corner' from Four80East, a really good canadian electro-jazz band.
