Honestly, If all they did with a mk2 was have the 4 tracks separated through the already present USB audio interface, and added pattern chaining or a song mode, it should become an absolute classic. That's like 90% of the criticism against it.
@jumpstar9000 Yeah good point, using a midi controller to access some features without menu diving is a pain (especially having to track down the undocumented NRPN values for parameters). So I guess I'd add to that wishlist Full NRPN documentation, and a 4x set of ADSR faders with a switch so could move it between adjusting the filter envelope or amp envelope. And 3 select buttons for the digital engines to determine which of the partials to have it change.
Ive had my JD-Xi for a few years now. I would never sell it. Lots of polyphony, great Roland sounds and Roland drum kits. Its a really good idea scratch pad for creating new songs. The only limitation that affected me was the seq section. Great demo bud..
@@markbradley5860 You're right, sound is not an issue as both are great. Rather than deciding between the two, formulate what you want to do first, then your choice will be more clearly defined and biased towards your needs rather than wants. If you are back-packer and like to synth-doodle wherever, or need sequencer to run a few boxes then E2 is a better choice. E2 is cheaper, but not by as much as to be the answer, especially if you'll need to add a keyboard later on anyway. But if you want actual analog sound plus higher voice count or want to synthesize your own voice or are a bit more collaborative with your creative process then JD-Xi would be a better choice.
With practice the JD-Xi can achieve anything. It's a swiss army knife. The sounds on this instrument are incredible. Years of fun & endless possibilities.
Groovy! I haven't found any other minisynth that does all of what the JDXI does. Some do part of it, but most lack drums and vocoder and have much less polyphony also.
Great demo! So did you mix and move through different sequences (programs) live? Can you do that on the JDXi? Or is this a DAW assemblage of parts? Mine is supposed to arrive today; your demo excites me😮!
In the synth world sometimes people get carried away. And synthesizers like this don’t really get any traction. When I wish I could see you with a synthesizer like this is a wish Roland will make a hybrid digital analog since it was compact. No, unless I’m wrong, I don’t think there’s really been. Anyone has made a really awesome affordable digital analog hybrid that’s affordable.
If you're a performing keybordist, then yeah, that keyboard is not going to light your fire, BUT if you're into grooveboxes then this type of setup becomes an advantage, and you don't even notice the keys cos their function changes from melody playing to phrase control just like all other knobs and buttons. I wish Korg would've merged electribe EMX/ESX with minilogue XD into a product of this type: "electribologue K" 😄
Exactly, but you can easily connect your full size MIDI keyboard. But when you need a portable all-in-one groovebox, there it is. There is nothing on the market like the JD-Xi.
This is layered multytrack. You can clearly hear fade-ins and fade-outs. Although JD-Xi offers four tracks simultaneously (two polyphonic digital parts, a monophonic analog part and a drum part).
6:53 i see a picture of the JD XI with no lights on all knobs except for the screen and the sequencer. So the lights on the knobs could be turned off????????
