Roland JX-3P soundscape - Summer storms

After being blown away by the Kawai SX-240, I looked around my studio to see what else could get even remotely close (that SX-240 was not mine). The JX-3p seemed similar in some ways. Simple, 2-osc DCO synth. Alas, it is very different. Although, it's not too bad either, since it can do a lot of things the SX couldn't do. But it couldn't do that 'high resonance but sweet' sound in the same way. Both are character synths. Just different.

The king of the "Sleeper Synths". An amazingly affordable Roland analog with the filter from a Roland Jupiter 8! Warm, dreamy and smooth - yet clangy, blippy and obtuse!

Man! The summers of 1984 and 1985 (age 10 and 11) were the greatest of my life! I was already semi-obsessed with synth soundtracks, etc. But I’d ’fly’ a toy such as my Star Wars Y-Wing and ‘land’ it, hop on the tree swing my dad had made and imagine the rest until the fighter would have to leave, etc. Being a summer in Georgia, that often meant storm clouds moving in…distant thunder and lightning. Exciting, threatening, comforting. This composition really re-tells this time of my childhood right back to me in a major way…and in the way I’d have preferred already (loving synth soundtracks from TD, and Carpenter and Vangelis)! Thank you for this! 40 years since the greatest summer of my 50 years! ❤🙂

That's great! Yeah, I used to do the same 'flying' with my star wars toys back in the day. We actually had the star wars soundtrack on record and I used to play the music while my ships would fly around the rooms. Sigh... those were certainly the days. Thanks for the kind words!

"Character Synths"... I like that. They are not the " Do everything, any sound I can dream up" kind of synth. But they have that unique character that makes them stand out. Thanks...

Yeah. I think that’s what you get, either character or complexity. Although some synths have character and complexity… I feel like the ambika and ESQ-1 fit that, but character synths are very unique, imo.
