Roland MC-505 Percussive Techno

This is a Percussive Techno Track made using just the Roland MC-505 Groovebox and it's build in FX. Recorded straight from the Stereo Output.
This song started as couple bar long percussive 909 tom drum loop. Then I started to add more drums to the rhythm track and quick after that I was recording the bass line.
I wanted to test if I can make a "proper" techno track using just the 505 without any other synths and to test unconventional sample choices to build the track on top of the drums.
I'm pretty happy with the results and with one or two additional synths to replace the MC-50 "303 sound", with proper multitrack recording and external reverb and delay effects on the parts, this could grow to something useful :)
The "performance" is not nearly perfect since I threw this together and while tweaking I was not 100% what each track contained since I had play this just couple times and decided to record a video.
I hope you enjoy the sounds and the use of the Roland MC-505 on this type of track. Hope to make couple more techno related videos in the future.

Great stuff! I just bought the MC-101 and own the MC-303. Do I need the MC-505? I love the sounds of the 90s. Born in 1979 I loved the 90s techno sounds! 😊

Awesome and insta classic sounding techno tune! ;-) Im always amazed how great and well thought theese "grooveboxes / samplers / one machine workstations" were made back than. Today you get for silly money just cheap plastic menu diving crap and with limited functions so you are forced in the end to even buy multiple machines.

Humble thank you 🙂 Both, the MC-303 and the MC-505 have such a sturdy build quality. Full metal case, quality pots, sliders and buttons and everything is build to take a beating 😁 The only weak component on the 505 is the notorious display but it’s super easy to fix or replace. I even like the sound engine in this one and the front panel is really well laid out 👌🏻

@@kingjellybeans7823 the ribbon cable that sends the data to the LCD has come loose. It’s originally glued to the LCD screen and during many years of use, the heat inside the unit and time the glue starts to give up and the connection comes loose. Just search MC-505 screen fix here in RU-vid and you will find a solution that you can try if you don’t want to buy and install new display. I saved my screen to semi ok condition with this trick and it has been working years since. 👍🏻

Thank you for the compliments! Yep, every sound is from the MC-505. I used the MC-505 internal FX to compress the drum part. The sounds were recorder out from the main out and the I put mild compressor and limiter to raise the volume level a bit 🙂

Yep. As a matter a fact I did the iron trick just couple days before I did this demo. I’ve done it ones before and then the fix worked for years

Bought MC-505 only for my electrical engineer to inform me you've Bought a piece of crap. Gutted....Returning ASAP & refund heading my way....MC-707 now instead. I hope it has These same type beats incorporated into its memory & vast selections ????? Love this video....;))
