As for the recording, my signal chain is: (0) Ableton Live, DAW software which generates MIDI commands based on my composition; (1) Focusrite Clarett 8pre audio interface, which sends the commands via its MIDI OUT (over a MIDI cable) into the MIDI IN of the MKS-7; (2) MKS-7 synthesizer, which converts the MIDI commands to analog audio signals (which are sent out of the 4 discrete audio outs via TS cable); (3) the same Focusrite interface, which converts the analog audio signals to digital audio signals; (4) Reaper, DAW software which records the digital audio signals. For this video, I did not alter the obtained audio signals. However, you could easily add audio effects (e.g., compression, EQ, reverb, etc.) to each of the 4 obtained audio tracks. In terms of MIDI in general, it's a pretty versatile protocol. In this video, I sent MIDI commands to: change note pitch & duration, select the voice (instrument), change the patches (presets) for each voice, add modulation (which sounds like an LFO modulating the note's pitch), add sustain pedal, and so on. I think there is even a fan-made MKS-7 patch editor out there that works over MIDI.
