Recall that Max Mosely was criticized for not attending Senna's funeral...instead...he went to Roland's. I always thought that was classy and thoughtful. He knew everyone was so fixated on Senna...that everyone forgot about Roland. He didn't.
@@basenthestickman4936 what don't you understand? he should have gone to both. They were not at the same time, on the same day obviously. Go to both...disgraceful only to attend one.
It was a life altering time for everyone involved *EXACTLY 30 YEARS AGO* when a terrible tragedy occurred both yesterday and today. We had unfortunately lost *Roland Ratzenberger* and also *Ayrton Senna* due to crashes that were beyond their control. May their *Determination* to win and *Spirit* for the sport that they loved have a *Lasting Effect* for everyone going forward!!! ~ JonseyG 👲💖 #RIPRatzenbergerSenna
True to an extent, but everyone in the sport knows what happened that weekend. It was also the combination of both fatal accidents in one weekend that pushed safety in F1 further. Also, with 'Senna' being a widespread documentary, at least more of the general public will see him being included in the story.
@@freespiritable I am ok. And actually, a week ago, for the first time I visited Imola during my trip to Italy and visited the Villeneuve Tamburello corner memorial too. I'm long since not watching F1 (I'm 32, but I lost interest when the new generation of drivers came in), but when I got there, I almost cried, that still means a lot for me.
@@freespiritableI remember where I was in my girlfriends house with her parents and they where in the garden and I was fixated to the tv as I loved F1, I remember his death clear as day but can’t remember what I had for dinner last night! ? 😢 strange world we live in .
i saw this footage about 4 years ago on youtube (the amateur footage). recently i was looking for it again but i couldnt find it. then i saw it on the senna movie. the one i saw years ago was in slow motion.
I live in Germany and Roland's father regularly has letters printed in the weekly motorsport paper "Motorsport Aktuell" on various subjects.I find it terribly sad to read his letters, especially a recent one he wrote, commending Dr, Sid Watkins on all he did. When I see how spolit and childish some of the modern drivers are, I think back to the days when there wer real men out there.
You have no clue what you are talking about. Bianchis death shows that F1 is still enormously dangerous, and it was almost repeated last year. The fatalities in the last few years in the feeder series dont make it any better. Just because modern drivers are more media trained, doesnt mean that they dont have gigantic balls to drive these machines.
It is highly unfortunate that we never got to see Roland’s true potential, he could’ve been a competitor to Michael Schumacher or Senna… but not everything is flowers and rainbows
This very upsetting I remember watching the Imola Grand Prix in 94 with my dad when I was 14 years old and I remember seeing Ayrten Senna crash and then pronounced dead it was awful. I never saw the qualifying and Roland’s crash on the Saturday but I have seen it now and it’s very eerie that crash noise is 😮 RIP Roland and Senna
Can't imagine what it's like to see a fatal crash. Still remember Chaz Mostert's massive crash at Bathurst in 2015. The silence afterwards was terrifying. Luckily he survived and doesn't seem to have affected his driving.
I remember on the day of the accident, the TV showed the front wing flying through the air before Roland crashed. I never found that footage again. I believe it suffered the same fate as the last moments of the onboard camera of Senna's Williams.
That weekend of Imola had almost 5 fatal crashes. Barrichello horrible accident, Ratzemberger, Lammy and Lehto crash at the start and Senna. It was a nightmare race.
Was a big fan of Lehto when I was a kid. San Marino was the beginning and the end for him. A podium there put him on the map and this crash he never recovered from and was out at the end of the season after a few patchy starts.
@BreastsNaked basilar skull fracture, broken neck. Basilar skull fractures very common in racing car accidents and almost always fatal .Senna had this injury too plus massive frontal head injuries .
@plasticspastic201 You can't lean out of an F1 car and pull the wing out from underneath... And by the time he realized his wing was under the car and he couldn't steer it would have been too late. Accidents like this still happen, but because the cars are much safer nowadays they're not fatal.
It's amazing that nearly 20 years on from this horrible weekend there is still footage out there that has only just been available for us to view. R.I.P Roland and Ayrton
Absolute silence after the huge impact. Then just the haunting scrape of the car as it slowly comes to rest. I think everybody knew it wasn't good. 😕 Tragic weekend for the sport.
@DAJAZDJ1 They have a remote starter that attaches to the car than they take it off when the race starts. And you don't need a key to start a car. Lots of race cars just have a simple switch.
Is not about the titles. It's about their personallity. Gilles Villenueve is remembered nowaday too, even if he didn't won titles. Anyway, millions of brasilians LOVED Senna(i don't know how many people loved Ratzenberg), and that's why his death will be remember for decades. Cause and effect. It's not about unjustice.
@plasticspastic201 He did turn his steering wheel. Problem was that his front wing had failed and dropped beneath his car. This lifted his front tyres and after that it doesn't matter what you do with your steering wheel.
@plasticspastic201 1. You cannot properly drift in F1 car. 2. When facing mechanical problems the computers that help run the steering usually dont work. You cant drift if you cant steer. 3. There is no keys in F1 cars...
this amateur footage actually emerged on RU-vid a few years ago but was quickly taken down, i presume because of stupid laws. It makes you wonder just how much unseen amateur footage there is out there from the Imola weekend, or any event really
@plasticspastic201 I totally agree with you, plastic: When he saw he was going to hit the wall, he called me from his cell for an advice, and that's what I told him. Unfortunately, he decided to have a little Prozac first in order to relax, so he ran out of time. As a last resort, he decided to jump out of his car and pull his parachute. That's the point when he realized he had forgotten to wear it. Cards were against him that day...
The 1994 F-1 car was unsafe, compared to the indycar form the same time. Head was exposed to the shoulders(obvious in the senna and ratzenberger videos) while the indycar had a high cockpit side. Saved alot of indy500 drivers. Like waching old f1/indycar crashes and see how the indycar protection worked well, long before the HANS device.
I was there. In the grandstand just after Tosa corner. I was aligned with the straight out of Tamburello. I saw him coming straight into the wall. After 10 seconds the car has stopped in the middle of Tosa corner everybody in the grandstands went quiet. Everybody knew immediately.
The race should have been cancelled right after this incident. We lost 2 drivers on the same weekend due to lack of safety precautions. Glad to see that has changed now.
Unsafe cars + concrete walls all over + mechanical failure or mistake + 200mph = Serious Trouble. Unfortunately it took this hellish weekend to remind fans that the show was overtaking any other aspects of safety or drivers will to change things for the best. In a time when two legends were on for the title (Mansell and Prost retiring from F1 earlier) there was no reason for slowing down the pace. Those incidents could easily have happened earlier, because previous ones held from Miracles...
@plasticspastic201 dude are you high...??? this isn't Need for Speed where you can "drift out of there." It's real life where he was driving a car at such high speed there's barely any time to react if anything goes wrong. By the time he realized something was wrong it's too late. Not because he's a bad driver it's because that's how fast things happen. C'mon dude, get it together..
@Shadow383 I have to say, I find it extremely offensive that you find it "utterly hilarious" that someone is trolling a video of someone dying. Do people really have such little respect for each other?
Why are you all feeding the plasticspastic201 troll? 4030 bhp? Formulating #1? Fiddle brakes? Come on people... Arguing with him tells us more about you than him.
That sounded bad, not normal for a race crash! Just as Senna's crash didn't look good when I saw it live, the energy of the crash stayed in the car and didn't spin & break apart. Ratzenberger's crash sounds as bad as it looked. I still hold F1 rule change responsible for both crashes, way to many major rule changes that year! RIP Roland & Aryton!!!
It really annoys me that no one remembers ratzenberger and people only remember senna it also annoys me that they broke the rules which is why senna died
@plasticspastic201 It's EXTREMELY offensive that you find it appropriate to troll so stupidly on a video of someone dying. RIP Ratzenberger, and I would not mind one bit if you attempted to pull the front wing out of under the front wheels without leaving the car while going 200 mph into a wall.
I would like to correct something : this amatory footage was available on sunday 1st may 1994 on the morning and was released by many TV. I am even asking myself if I haven't seen it Saturday in the evening, but for sure on Sunday morning. So, this is not an unseen footage.
And you think that "RIP Roland" is the best that you might say? Think at yourself, after death, will your only desire is that everybody put these THREE LETTERS ahead of your name?
Rubens Barrichello crashes in training in Imola 1994. = An accident on a dangerous track Roland Ratzenberger crashes and dies in Imola 1994 = An accident on a dangerous track Ayrton Senna crashes and dies in Imola 1994 = It was sabotage by the Williams team!!! (says all Senna fanboys). What are the odds?? Let all the drivers who lost their lives in tragic accidents rest in peace. And let all idiot fanboys who can't fathom that accidents happen to the best grow up once and for all!
