My first Synth, about 18-19 years ago. Hated it. Unfairly, now that I now synths more. Gave it to a friend. I think he still has it these days. I hate him now.
In '02 for 599 you got 32 note poly, 4 multi parts, drums, sequencing and a wide synth palette. In '15 for 599 you can get what? a single mono voice, w/maybe a seq/arp? or 3 little boxes with a comparatively limited palette? Things that ... ahem ... howl ? the sh32 is flawed to be sure, but it's still a beast.
I bought one for 7500CZK, in 2006 (around 250EUR). I love the sound, you can tweak almost Virus-like insanity out of that with a bit of patience. No, i take it back. With a fuckload of patience. Because this machine is a huge clusterfuck of knobs, sliders and menu diving, all of the controls you see on the top are shared between the 4 parts, and there's not real display. Now why Roland hated displays i have no clue, but it kills me. Kills the machine. Everyone i ever known who owned this machine just used it for experimentation only. There's no dedicated software editor/librarian either. So you have to control everything via midi from a workstation or DAW. Other than that, it's pretty cool for underground dance music, hardcore techno, stuff like that.
This thing rocks. If you can get one of these cheaper than a boutique synth do it. The waveforms actually sound very good and authentic to me (and each waveform has several variations of itself!) and it’s basically a weird tr909-lite
@@_EightySix I had a System-1 for a year, but I could not get over how bad the keys on that thing were - no feeling when pressing the keys whatsoever. Still I liked some of its sounds, but since it did feel tempting to play I sold it off.
I had one, too... back in 2003/2004... but I sold it soon, to buy (real) analogue Synths... 3:34 It didn't sound too bad though... especially with the Arp.! 4:37 TB-303... "cool."
Dreadful Sounds like the noises from a cheap hot hatchback at the traffic lights. Wearing tracksuits. If your musically deaf or an annoying waste of space you’ll want one to play really loud in your neighbourhood.
