Had mine for a couple of years now, absolutely love it! Fantastic synth engine, great drum editing mode, works a treat when in performance mode sequenced by the Beatstep Pro. Thoroughly recommend this machine...
I had mine since it came out. It’s my secret weapon. Absolutely the best bang for the buck, ever! I have OB6, P10, Moog voyager this thing finds it’s way into every track. Arp is amazing and cleverly done. Not perfect but very, darn good. Not VA, but mutisampled wave table!
I remember when these things were coming out, I started discovering analog synths at pawn shops at a decent price, so I totally ignored these things. I always wanted roland to just re-issue their good synths from the 70's and 80's. They would sometimes create something that resembled one of the old synths, but would fall completely short by either being digital, or being a pocket sized toy. I used an XP50 for a few years, I got used to its digital harshness, the resonance that wasn't useful, trying to emulate a simple moog lead and failing, when I found a mc-202 and a moog mg1 around 1998 I never looked back. This box is kinda bringing back past frustrations and the sound is unmistakable 90's roland.
@@zoloft1672 Roland must have invested all their resources into the "new" digital way of doing things, and perhaps they perceive analog to be a step backward. There was a time when analog gear was no longer in but that's no longer true. Clearly, there is still a big market for analog reissues, and it looks like other companies will beat Roland to the punch.
@@MantraS77 yep, they love their Zen-core. I have the Aerophone Pro with the Zen-core and it's not noticeably better than the modeling in the Boutique JP-08 (I've not yet been able to create a patch that's a fair comparison) and it's still less convincingly analogue sounding than the MicroKORG or the Reface CS.
@@Dj.Jovino but.....they have a sound, a grit, a character, you can't beat breaks through a 12 bit sampler for example.. When everything's too clean and digital it starts to sound sterile imo
Glad this was an inspiration. Make sure your unit has the latest software because the early release has an awful sounding filter that they fixed in later releases.
I had this machine back in the early 2000s.. I made a lot of music with this.. I could have made more but I had to sell it around 2014...I regret it but I had to do it... It also got some good analog drums in it
Not only is it really really cool sounding IMHO, and that I would bet my right arm Prince must have used every single function of that thing in his sleep as well as Daft Punk (known to use obscure stuff), its a digital modeling FM synth which... If you ever know another one tell me. AND on top of that, it has no VST equivalent and is almost the most hated synth by all snot nosed, Phantom lover gear elitist on Reddit who are basically ready to throw in out of the window at any moment, people whose notion that something obscure might actually be wanted for creative purposes is far far ahead of the range or reasoning. This is therefore the perfect punk and DIY synth to piss-off the workstations bourgeois :D And, I think it looks great!
Best digital resonant filter ive ever heard. Yes its harsh and digital but i mean come on? Its a digital box not a moog. This thing rips ffom ear holes to a holes.
I see them around sometimes for cheap, always tempted but then i think there's a reason why they're still cheap on the 2nd hand market. They do sound pretty shite, not awful, its got a charm but its just got that oh so typical 'crap digital roland synth' type vibe.
