The Roland SPD::ONE Series are a new type of digital percussion pad that allows any musician to add authentic percussion, samples or backing tracks to their performances.
Standard Features
Light, compact digital percussion pad that can be played with drumsticks, hands, or feet.
22 onboard sounds, including genuine drum and percussion sounds.
Import your own WAV data via USB to one of the 12 sound banks.
Edit and control your sounds easily with just four knobs.
Powered by batteries (4 x AA) or AC adaptor.
Main output (mono) and headphones output (stereo) for monitoring
USB-MIDI support enables use as a pad controller for music software.
Can be floor or tabletop mounted, or fitted to drum hardware and mic stands using the included mount adapter.
SPD WAV Additional Features
Import your original WAV sound data by connecting to a computer via USB and dragging and dropping files.
Internal 4 GB drive can hold up to 360 minutes of stereo audio.
Edit and control your sounds easily with just four knobs.

These seem more like the Boss DRP range (or 'Dr Pad' as they were called, a name that attempted to relate them to the Dr Rhythm range but unfortunately sounded more like a sanitary product) than the HC2 and PC2. As I recall both of the above ranges were also horribly expensive when launched...

That's exactly what I do. I have two SPD1 Kicks--the left foot plays a hi-hat sound, the right foot plays a bass drum sound. I built a small wooden floor rack to keep the pads from sliding around under my feet. Works great.
