The Roland SRV-2000 reverb unit from 1984-85. A pro reverb by Roland (with a semi-pro price at the time) that set out to compete with among others, the Lexicon PCM60 at the time. Grainy and beautiful in its sound and you can get some huge gated reverbs from this.
There are also a "secret" delay mode on this, but in all fairness, the "delay" mode is more of a test setup, even if some will have it to be a SDE-2000 light. It is not.

What I like about your music is you keep that vintage flavor with not just the synths but the compositional style, the effects and technology while maintaining the nice parts of modern fidelity. It’s a tasteful homage to what made music of that era great rather just trying to copy it. Knowing how to take advantage of the limitations of some of the old boxes adds to “special sauce”.

Imponerande hur du finner inspiration i begränsningarna med vintage gear och hur du djuplodar i dess funktionalitet! Inte bara synthar utan inspelningsteknologi och övrig studioutrustning. Själv road av 80-tals samplers för ljudets skull men sen blir det ”in the box” när det kommer till inspelning effekter och så vidare. Keep up the good work Espen!👌🏻👊🏻

Great stuff Espen, thanks for posting - this is a great reminder that these days we sometimes get too caught up in the "accuracy" of a reverb and how it faithfully recreates specific spaces or environments, and dismiss the older technology as being "out of date". In doing so we forget that one of the most important factors is how it creates a bed and comfortable space for other instruments to nestle together in the mix. This little gem along with the SPX 90 were the foundation of so many great mixes for me back in the day. Fab to see it lovingly run through its paces again! 😊

I have a few of the Roland rack pieces from the 80s, all wonderful. The SRV-2000 is incredible for drums, either singly or on the drum bus...and in particular, on analog synths...I use it to enhance my boutiques...along with my DEP-5, just a classic workhorse that would be at home in any studio from project to professional.

I bought the SRV 2000 back when it first came out. However, it was larger than my rack case in the back. The PCM 70 is my favorite now.

Boss already did the SDE-3000. I can see them do the SRV-2000 into a pedal. That would be cool! Love those old rack effects!😌🎶👍🏾

I absolutely love these Roland boxes of that era. This one and the DEP-5 are so good, and nothing else sounds like them. The nonlinear algorithms can give an AMS a run for the money on certain things - 80s goodness!

Can’t remember wha model but I had a Dynachord early digital reverb and my drummer had the srv-2000, which we used for vocal and his D-drum2 module. It was a nice reverb. Good stuff Espen 😊 I really wish some retro channel could show how good those D-drum modules was, but they seem to be Ultra Ultra rare these days.

Just so you know, within the Zenology Synth Plugin, they actually added this effect module and their Integra reverb into it!!! I don't own a license to that synth yet but, in demo mode I tested it and I will say that I am so so in love with the sound the SRV2000 verb makes..it's so so lush and sweet. I'm hoping that maybe they'd eventually port it into the Zenology Effect plugin...I don't know if that has a perpetual license though...Great video as usual sir @EspenKraft!!!

I think that it's on synths this is least useful, but if they put it inside a effects plugin it will be more interesting. I doubt they can get the sound exactly right though.

Well since I'm a sorta young, in my mid thirties, I have no clue of the original and its sound, but compared to some other name reverbs, that 2000 withing the Zenology sy th sounds freaking incredible! I kind of sorta like it more than the Integra module in the same plugin! Bylt yes, I sure hope they add it to the Zenology FX

Lovely stuff, they've ported over the algorithms to Zen Core hardware for sure but I don't think it's hit their plugins yet for what ever reason. I keep meaning to check it out on some drums on my MC-707 but have not got around to it.

Very nice sound. I see why you're saying it isn't approximated well by other things, especially plugins. I have a DEP-3 from back in the dizzle, but it just doesn't sound very good to me anymore; I used to love it. I always reach instead for the DP4 and am never disappointed.

Sounds great. On my guitar rig I use Alesis Quadraverb, I have also tried the Lexicon 80 it sound fantastic. But the best sounding reverb I have tried is the PSP 2445 EMT plugin. An emulation of a classic reverb called EMT 244, Softube TSAR-1 is also incredible. If you have not tried these plugins, your missing out on something.

Missed on one of these a few months ago (for 2000 Kč (cca €100) at that!), now I'm never gonna get one! But in all seriousness, it's a great unit. Love these old reverbs. Sadly, the only one I have is a SPX990, which isn't that great on snares. Might get a SPX-90 soon, though.

Have a look at Boss RV-1000 and RE-1000. They have an analog limiter that give them a tape-y vibe for Instant mojo and dirt. For peanuts. Get them recapped also, they are pretty good.

I dig the 1 on this VFD. Most times even when they have the extra segments for text, they leave the numerals as-is. This 1 is really readable.

Since the arrival of DAW, all vintage hardware is getting quite outdated. Still nice to see these hardware’s operational.

That's not true at all. Vintage hardware effects units still have their place.

Agree with Espen, if you do have some of those old hardware units they are worth to hold on to. Even many plugins is welldone they rarely sound exactly like the hardware. Some do come very close, not that I would miss an old microverb, but to some that sound is golden🙂 and if you baught them back then you could afford one for each module or synth 😄
