Roland TD4kp VS Roland TD11k 

C'mon, man. We all know the unknown brand $200 e-drumset wins any day.

Came across this video because I was looking on the Roland website for a really portable drum set for those times when I have to go to someone's house to practice just one song and time and space may be limited to lug my acoustic set. So, I see that the TD4kp is still available.

I got very lucky I bought my td-11kv for only 400$, only issue was no power cable. My first e-kit was the rock band ion premium kit, basically an Alesis Dm6 kit w/o Xbox controller module to control game. The Roland was my first “real” e/drum kit and it started me back on my drumming journey after 14 years of apartment living with no way to play my acoustic drums. The ion kit did have solid single zone pads and cymbals that I used to add extra crash and Tom to my kit. I really want the rack for this KP kit. I would take my mesh pads I still have left from my td-11kv and use them on this. I use an spd-30 as a mini kit for jam/writing sessions and small coffee shop gigs until the pandemic hit. I would love a folding kit with pdx pads to take with me instead. The SPD-30 with KT-10/Fd-8 pdx-6, CY-5 and CY-8 setup I use now is pretty good, I just would like to use my td-17 instead because I’m not very good at programming very good patches on spd-30 and unfortunately VEXPRESSIONS doesn’t make any settings packs:(

I played the Roland TD-11KV V-drums recently and was surprised at how responsive the pads and cymbals were - add a TM2 for more sounds and sampling..

In the UK a TD4KP is new £599. A few still around. I am bidding on a Yamaha dtxpress 3 on ebay. Been boxed for years new condition.

I love the idea of TD4KP. The way I see it... is that it lets you to play the drum at all. At that point, you really don't care about how the drum kit feels and looks. You're just glad that you get to play. Heck, if TD4 module is outdated, then just swap it with ATV, Pearl Mimic, or VST, since all the pads are compatible.

A good video; the TD11 is an awesome kit for its price range and really the deal breaker for me is the sound: as an experienced drummer for 40 years the sound is very close to,authentic sounding acoustic drums! The downside is the snake block isn't great because if one cable goes then you have to buy the whole block which is Roland's way of getting you to spend more money! However I don't agree with you here when you say the sound on the TD 11 could be better: these are, a said, very good acoustic sounding pads from an acoustic set up at this price! You can also upgrade these Tom pads to all mesh if you desire! The TD4kp I have played and yes agree that the lack of rim capability is a drawback but portability is the thing! TD11 is also great as I have folded up the entire kit and put it in the back of a taxi!

Hey man ! Thanks for the videos and the help for finding a better gear! This is an even harder mission here in Brazil, because of the very high tributes we pay! The cheapest new TD11 found on the internet here costs 1340 dollars, can you believe it ? While the average monthly salary is 500 dollars !

Hey Justin I have a budget of $700 for an electric kit. Space is an issue since this kit will be going on my boat since that’s where I am currently living till the place I rent gets rebuilt which will take awhile. I have been looking at the td4kp is there any other models from any make I can look up that are smaller in size just due to the space I have? I am pretty sure the td 4 is probably the best bet since it can fold up so small but just wanted to see since your so experienced if you knew of any other kits that aren’t much bigger that are better. I’m debating between a used Roland TD4KP for around $350 and a new Alesis Nitro Max. This will be for my beginner drum students and to carry to their recitals without breaking my back. Having something compact and easy to pack up is really important to me. What do you suggest?

l find the TD-4KP a very complete drumset. I have played acoustic drums for over 25 years in rock bands and jazz / big bands, and recently switched to an electronic kit, which had to be portable. This drumkit offers all the possible sounds I need. It would help though if you indicate how the drum module of the TD--4KP differs from the TD11 instead of just saying that the one is better over the other. The CB-TDB bag may be expensive, but it's good quality and made to measure. I wonder if other bags of this size are much less expensive...

How about TD4 versus TD1K? Those are more similar in price (and in size) for used sets at this point

I'm listening to you over really good near field monitors, actually I've even switched you over to my Yamaha DSR12's and I think your microphone could use some more/different EQ, cause the high frequencies of your voice come across so harsh, they almost crackle. I understand that high frequencies help make people easy to understand, but I think you've overshot on this ;-) No matter, your videos are really good ^^

Great Video! Personally, I can't stand smaller drumsets because it makes me feel like I am playing with a toy. Like for $800 I would either go with the Yamaha for the price or the Alesis Crimson-X because I cannot stand tiny edrums.

I feel like I am one of the persons you're referring to, regarding the need-to-go-compact. ;) Nice comparison! A thing you left out was the difficulty in adding an extra cymbal to the 4kp. It is possible, but you need to get a splitter cable for the ride I have read, and take one of its zones, and then edit it in one of the menus. The 11 manages the extra cymbal with no issue at all. Also, the original TD-4 had an extra cymbal Out from the module whereas the TD-4kp doesn't. Compactness...

For an existing TDK4P owner is it worth upgrading to the TD11? I love the compactness of the TDK4P, it sounds pretty good and tends to be used for practice and recording. I understand Super Natural sounds are a step up in terms of quality and behaviour making it more "studio like" but is it really worth the upgrade? From a recording perspective, the average person can't tell its not an acoustic kit (people can't tell on my EP), and whilst I love drums they will never be my main instrument (not many singer songwriters play solo with drums). I looked at upgrading the module and its not much more to buy the entire kit (and therefore cheaper in the long run after selling the TDK4P).

Hey Justin. When is Roland going to come out with the new version of the TD11? I really want to try the electric side of drumming but this kit came out 6 years ago and with it being Roland’s best selling model they’ve got to come out with a new version soon right? I saw the k and kv each dropped 100$ to be 800$ and 1300$. Any word from your sources? I want to buy a kit now but if they’re coming out soon with the 11 replacement, I’ll wait!

With the TD-4KD, can you move the original rubber snare over to the right side and use it as a fourth tom? I already have a stand-alone mesh snare that I would like to combine with a kit like this. I also already have an Alesis I/O and pro software. I also have a couple of KD10 pedals, which I’m very happy with. I may also go with an isolated hi-hat stand and I imagine I’ll have a pretty killer and still quite portable drum kit!

What I matter the most about the drumset is the sensitivity of the pads, it means from 0 to 127. How accurate they are about that?? Thanks!

If I already have the TD-11 and considering buying the mobile set, can I use my snare and kick from TD-11 and have the rim sensors work? Also kind of wondering if I could somehow combine the two sets to have more toms and cymbals... like, maybe somehow set up both and connect them both and use Cubase to run sounds?

My opinion is that the td4 module don't have good sounds. You cant make a custom kit and there is no good kit

what do you think about www.karrace.com they make drum pads that are large and not so expensive, but idk if it will last as long or play like its suppose to.
