I understand it can be used as a sort of makeshift usb interface, that’s got me leaning me towards this as a first real drum machine.

I definitely say get one!!! I have the RD6, but it allows for deeper sound creation than the RD6. What’s insane is I can chain them together by midi, and it thickens the beats. Only thing I hate is the power supply. It forces me to use batteries. Because it’s too easy for it to pop out and then I have to start it all over! It has its drawbacks with the audio in. The effects don’t seem to include it to the patterns.

Thank you for this excellent video! This little gem makes me want to pull out my credit card, but I already bought the VST through Roland Cloud that also features the 'ACB' technology. What are the purely sonic differences between the hardware TR-06 and the VST version? Wouldn't it be redundant if I were to purchase the TR-06 in this case?

I would go with the 08 because it has more sounds and you don't need the connectivity pf the triggers unless you have more synths. Also look at the KORG electribe's (either one) you get a lot more for about the same price.

I honestly do not understand why people buy these overpriced cheaply plastic boxes. There are soo much better devices in that price range for example the smpltrek or digitone(a bit more expensive).

The smpltrek is plastic and the TR-06 is metal and has ACB technology and sounds better.

The Digitone is $800. This is $279. And the Digitone is an fm synth and sequencer. And the SmplTrek is a sampler. Why are you even comparing all these things?
