The V-Synth has a very unique sound. I had one for a few years but every time I played it, it sounded like I was poorly trying to imitating Enigma. I can hear the very same thing in this demo.
It's probably because Michael Cretu used V-Synth on Enigma Posteriori album. Similar happened with Korg 01/W sounds on earlier Enigma albums. Another example is JMJ with "Revolutions" album - it is mostly Roland D-50/D-550.
I had a V-synth for a week and I couldn't get any nice sounds from it, everything was somehow grainy and artifacty. This video demonstrates the same thing - grainy, as if everything is subjected to some weird lossy audio compression.
Well, VA functions work pretty good. Variphrase technology has its limitations, but if you know it you can squeeze interesting sounds with it. Yes, it is DSP synth that has own character, and it can sound "grainy" (gain staging + band limiting due to internal sampling rate?), but there are definitely a "sweet spots" where it shines. I am not sure one week is enough to grasp the V-Synth power.
The V-Synth is a remarkable machine. However, samples transfer is somewhat awkward and finally I did sell the V-Synth. Imho not the most user friendly synth but luckily it sounds nice.
