As an owner of a an XP-80 for almost 20 years, I bought this video when it was on VHS (tape) format about 15 years ago. Then recently, I tried to see this tape on a traditional VHS player but couldn't, it would get stuck. Thankfully, it's now on RU-vid and I can go back to re-learn the many features of this great instrument. Thank you for posting!
Fantastic demo of a great keyboard. I've had this keyboard for years, and am sooo happy to have found this exquisite breakdown of how to navigate it. VERY WELL DONE!!! THANKS!!
Nick, thanks for all your XP80 Demos! I'm a longtime user with 2 XP80's and an 880 module, and 16 of the expansion boards. Even though I bought my 1st XP80 in the 90's when they were first released, directly from the central US rep, I still watch these tutorials and always seem to find many features I'm not taking advantage of. I'm viewing all your parts right now. Thanks! (My early XP80 has a custom motherboard. Roland only made so many. I can't remember the additional features it's suppose to have, but both the 80's seem identical, so there must be some non-documented hidden switch combinations)
armstronglance A musician after my own heart. I also have two Roland XP-80's and it is my all-time favorite keyboard that is still in active use today. The successor Fantom keyboards lack the depth and characteristics of the XP -80. I also have a JV-880 module that I still use today, as well as 12 of the expansion boards. Of all the keyboards Roland produced, the XP-80 is the top one of them all. Even the sequencing functions are so simple. One floppy disk can last an entire set list on a gig night. I have one for my studio, the other I use for my live performances. Awesome workstation.
This is good. Thanks Nick. I just redid all 72 panel buttons on my XP80 . And all slider pots. Worn sound palette slider caused crazy midi sound issues. Should have been 10k ohm but was reading 44k. ha ha . I have USB floppy emulator which is great. I am swapping in a LED display I got on Ebay. I was concerned at one time about Roland wave ROM having compression and being 36k fidelity. But it always sounds good.
I'm amazed my Xp-80's have the Legato switch & RATE/TIME options for portamento. LA Scoring Strings has those features and they're a biggie for adding realism.
ola alguém sabe uma forma de mudar os timbres no xp30 sem cortar o som mesmo estando com o pe no sustain .... Hi, does anyone know a way to change the tones on xp30 without cutting the sound even though it's in the sustain
how do you change the pitch bend range..? I'm sure I changed it before in the settings but I don't remember where. It should have been in settings>Controls I would have figured.
my XP 80 has started saying: 'midi buffer full'. i have never seen this before. can anyone tell me what to do to remedy this? help much appreciated. thank you.
Hi Geraldine, Does that happen when you've hooked it to a computer? Don't worry, I get that message too once in a while. Usually when I first switch on my XP80 and then my laptop. There's a MIDISport4x4 (USB) in between, and I think that somehow sends a lot of info when starting up. Start up your PC or laptop first. If you get that message when 'stand-alone' then that's a new one to me too... Good luck!
Handy for wiping your back end.... I had an XP80 with its manual on loan for a few months and that manual, in typical Roland tradition was terrible!!!!
@@ksager123 damnit! I regret buying it a few years back in 2020 for about 300USD and I loved it, then I sold it to someone for 280USD! Then out of curiosity I checked the prices of it and I was shocked. My pain is beyond understanding now...
