Absolutamente impresionante.
Bravo Rolando y Magdalena!
This is unbelievable... Never thought Kozhena's voice can sound so sensuous and rich and expressive. Can't help wondering - where all the nuance and radiance came from?... Looks like Villazon insinuated his latin heat into this usually restrained if a bit flat sounding nothern lady. He was smart taking understaited vocal route with coiled passion behind that half volume he has to suppress to express an overwhelming emotion and let the partner shine. Impressive artistic ethic and dedication to art. In result we got a fenomenal audial chemistry and artistry of highest caliber. Bravissimi!!!
More vocally credible than properly staged versions, the ensuing tragedy foreseeable in the deliberately suppressed lust discernible here. Great interpretation by two great voices. Bravo!.
Beautifully sung and dramatized. Kožená has all the chops, with room to spare...what a talent! When the Nerone part is given to a mezzo, one can wallow in the intertwining lines between soprano and mezzo, like a writhing couple, but this combination too has its virtues. Villazón has a rich and deep voice, saturated with tone. I myself don't care for a falsetto voice, so I regret that the majority of recent performances of this opera have gone with a countertenor for Nerone.
A fine version. However, It's probably closer to Baroque style with two mezzos. The most improbably wonderful version for me is with Gwyneth Jones and Jon Vickers, known for their Wagner roles.
I absolutely don't agree. They sound great and almost perfect. Pure joy to listen to listen to such clear harmonies. Beautiful.
