Frank 'the Animal' Flecter! These were the good old days when Good Boxing was on every weekend especially the winter time when most Sports were finished for the year. I miss these days.
I'd say Duran, because although he doesn't have the same strength or power, he's a much more polished fighter. Roldan may be like a "rabid Rottweiler" LOL.
Roll-on, Roldan. He did what he could take away your spirit in the first round, and then he would take care of the rest to you. Probably amongst the most underrated fighters of this era. Did you see what he did to James Kinchen? Jesus Christ.
Wow, how many overhand rights did Fletcher get hit with? It's amazing he stood up to that for as long as he did. That was the punch that floored Hagler.
Helped that Roldan was at least one weight class stronger. Fletcher would have had similar problems with Hamsho but Hamsho did not hit as hard as Roldan.
Frank Fletcher was MADE!! for Juan Roldan. A Good crowd pleasing fight was this . But Juan was licking his chops with this fight. Made him for the Hagler fight straight after.
Hagler got hit numerous time with bombs like that and he withstood them like a brick wall. Bit let me tell you something, Roldan was probably the best puncher Marvin faced in his career, cause he said it himself.
Yes he did but it was overheard " rumor " by someone close to him. Hagler would never admit it but it's incredible to think that since he fought some of the toughest punchers out there in his time in Philadelphia.
At this stage of the animals career, he was spending more time getting high in the streets then the gym,you could see it right away and knew this was not a good matchup for Frank, remember it like yesterday, great era, great fights, every wkend ,on free tv
Roldan was making it close vs Hagler and had Hearns hurt twice in that fight, as well. He reminds me of a mini-rocky-marciano...only knew one direction: Foward. and punch punch punch ....
Oh c'mon you American Commentators . Giving excuse's why Animal Fletcher isn't himself BLah blah blah. The reason is plan and simple. He's getting his Game arse kicked!!! If they fought in Philly with MomMY Flecther screaming at the ring apron Roldan would still knock him out!
Hagler caught him in the eye with the opposite side of the glove, not the thumb side. It's clear in the replay. Roldan was giving Hagler hell though. A real tough cabrón and awkward and hard to predict.
@@ThePsvan It's a shame it happened. Roldans eye was injured and technically they should have stopped the fight right there. Roldan's awkward style was partly to blame but it's in the past now. They both have passed away. But before that eye injury the look in haglers eyes sitting in the corner after the first 2 rounds showed Roldan was a real threat!
If not for the Marvelous One, Roldan would've become Middleweight Champ of the World. Tremendous heart and threw bombs with both hands. He was a great fighter. Imagine him against Joe Calzahge, two punch-throwing machines!
37 years gone on last 10th-nov of this most categorical fight of Juan in Vegas, before Bob Arum, Max Albert, ESPN, big crowds of cable TV and grabbing so big chance at Hagler. All he achieved from then on was far beyond his humble gifts, presenting huge fights on monsters like Marvin Hagler, Hearn, Michael Nunn, this last he poorly under performed while Nun would have to be more matched fight for him (Nunn was koed his next by James Toney). He unfortunately is at this very mom fighting his most difficult fight ever, in intensive care unit, breath mechanically assisted, holding on COV19, lets pray for him. he was really champ at life too
Frank Fletcher why didn't he fight with a mouthpiece? He had no front teeth supposed to have lasted them in a prison fight. But why didn't he wear a mouthpiece anyway. Isn't it a rule you must wear one?
Roldan looks like a totally different fighter here, than against Hagler. Seemed trimmer and faster against Hagler. Here he looks slower and more plodding. Maybe he just trained much harder for Marvelous.
Fletcher reminds me of another exciting Philly fighter from the same era who never earned a title fight, but IMO was also pretty good and exciting to watch, named Curtis Parker.
Too bad Fletcher never fought Tommy Hearns. Would have been a great pay day for both with Philly vs Detroit. Would have been an entertaining fight as long as it lasted. Tommy would have finished him 3-4 rounds.
When it comes to fighters who fight like Fletcher did...every fight a war...they often lose it suddenly. Fletcher was done here, a shell of the boxer he used to be after taking years of punishment. And let's not discount the effect of an ex-con and street guy coming into hundreds of thousands of dollars falling into bad habits and questionable choices. Frank was just a bad seed. Once his career was over, he almost immediately went back to his previous world of thuggerey, crime and prison stretches. There isn't much information out there regarding his current whereabouts but I believe I saw a local documentary stating he's about 10 years into a 40 year sentence for murder.
