Back in the early days boots may have been the only shoes you owned for a life time. My Pop's was telling no one has a closet full of shoes some died in the boots. Someone wrote that his grandmother told him two things you don't skimp on is your boots and bed those two things you'll be spending most of your time in.
This kind of thing is what I really LOVE about RU-vid! Seeing this type of craftsmanship that I would almost certainly never see in my life otherwise. Thanks for sharing!

Love watching a man repair beautiful things, that last and last and last, thank you for making this video 🤗 I just repaired just the heal on one side f my boots, it was hard but it only lasted about maybe a couple of months so I don't have the same glue I mixed together so I'm afraid it won't stay if I do it again so I'm going to a cobbler very soon... You do beautiful work
I've missed your videos so much! But I understand that juggling boot making and video production being at odds with each other but I appreciate your incredible efforts!
Some people want to support their ankles from being twisted during long walks and even in a city irregular paving; sidewalks and steps can be a hazard. Others want them because of a feeling about style, much like the folks who wear cowboy boots, which are really riding boots with special features for wearing spurs; for quick access to stirrups and heels suited for digging in to hold a roped animal. None of that is required for truck driving; line dancing dudes in Country Western Honky Tonks.
The maker is deconstructing his own work, looks like the heels were built so strong that it caused a struggle and made the job more difficult to rebuild :)
Brian, I must say your skills are amazing. I work with leather in knife sheath making, but I have never seen an expert such as yourself create such a work of art as you did here. Thank you for sharing and I wish you so much success.
Your craftsmanship reminds me of what I learned at lattc... When working on "equipment" leave it better than you found it, and make it easy for the next guy to work on because the next guy to work on the "equipment" might be you. Well done Brian!
Watching this reminds me of coming home from school. There was a little old shoemaker on the way home and we would stop and look in the window at him making and repairing shoes. There were three shoemakers in our town then in the 1960's. At least we still have a heel bar.

Hi, your works looks excellent! I have one question out of curiosity: why do all your customers (at lesat judging from your videos) go for soles with shallow tread pattern? Are they only using them as fashion items? (like the people i see wearing a knitted wollen hat inside perfectly tempered buildings) I see boots as footwear with a purpose, anything that goes above my ankle does so to protect it from something like water, sand, mud, gravel, scratchy things, but with shallow (not sure if that is the right word) soles, i am not able to get anywhere my ankle would need any protection.

I have to put it in my bucket list to either visit your shop for a boot or have one made for my foot it's really hard to find my size. When I do it would be either sold out or the last one on the shelf.
Very Nice job. I have a pair of Hiking boots that I want to have resoled with truck tire tread. I hate to toss them. They are so comfortable. No one around here does boot or shoe repair. The last guy went out of business.
