Hi Peter, thanks for making it look so easy. I have a 20 ATM Vetta watch with screw down crown, but it looks very similar to the problem you describe in this video, except I can not see any thread on the case tube. A lot of gunk has come out from inside the crown, which includes a disintegrated casket/seal. How do I go about locating parts for this watch?

Thanks much for this video. It is very helpful. But may I ask, how about case tubes and crowns for older vintage Roleces (plural?). Say, 1940s. How does one go about finding the correct case tube and crown?. I see tubes and crowns online, but do these fit older watches?.

Great Video. I have the same problem and don't want to leave the watch at a local place. Can you give me the part #'S / SIZES FOR A ROLEX OYSTER PERPETUAL DATEJUST 16200 3135 movement (36mm case) if you have them....Thanks in advance.

Great video. Thanks. So broaching was for older crown tubes that had no grooves for a tool correct? Any idea on the correct tube part number for a 1960 Rolex Oyster Perpetual 1002? I see 24-5300 or 24-520.

So are the case tubes universally sized? Would a Seiko use the same case tube tool as a Rolex?

lol. No. Would be nice if there were standards.

Thanks for the informative videos. I have a Rolex 6542 with a stripped tube, and maybe a crown. I've ordered a new Rolex tube/gasket. I've taken old watches apart & put them back together but tackling my Rolex is a much bigger risk. For one thing I have seen nothing anywhere about releasing the stem. I presume, since I don't see a release button in online pictures, that I will need to rotate a small screw near the stem. I would like to know for sure before I get myself into trouble. The old jeweler that used to take care of my watches died this year and I'm loathe to send my watch off to some unknown.

I believe that there is a screw for the clutch. Get a tube of loctight for the case tube. All you will need is about 1/2 of a drop. Be cautious when inserting the new tube into the case Practice a few times so that you know how to install it correctly. Good luck.

You're right for being cautious about where you take your watch. I have a 1960's Seiko Chronometer - one of a kind (+/- 1sec per day) and took it to the local watch repairer. He had it for 2 years and returned it in worst condition. I know he took out many good working parts and then glued down an undersized crystal. The crystal fell out and tore all the hands off when I wore the watch to bed. Ironically, I took it to another repairer who killed it off forever. Hopefully there are a few honest guys left who take pride in their work.

Hello Peter!. I need your opinion, I’m scuba diver. Do you think that Rolex Twin Lock system is good enough for diving? I have an Oyster Perpetual, I’ve used it several times in my dives and it’s bee ok. Do you think that when Rolex says “100 mts waterproof “ it’s “more realistic” that other brands?? Thank you very much, I really enjoy your vids. Love & health from Spain!!!

Hello Maria. I would think that diving with a Rolex would be fine, if you have it tested. The only issues I’ve seen is that used watches are also unknown. Meaning you will not truly know the maintenance of the watch. The weakness is in the case tube and crown. If gaskets fail, that is typically the first place to allow water in. Sometimes only from forgetting to tighten it, but more often wear on those parts. Any Rolex dealer will water test your watch and let you know the condition. It is safe and allows no water to enter durning the test. I also recommend that if you do dive with any watch, have it checked annually as salt water and pool chemicals do damage to the gaskets and sometimes the steel case tube. I dive with mine all the time and only check it when open. It for service. Just remember to keep the crown tight (by hand) and generally you should be fine. A super quick test is to wait for some hot weather, get your watch wet and see if it digs up. Having it checked would be my first suggestion though. Good luck. Thanks for the question

@@watchesandjewelry Hi Peter, Thanks for your answer!! I bought the watch in an AD at Playa del Carmen, Mexico, four years ago, brand new, so I know it’s been treated very well, always rinsed with fresh water after sea and pool. Glad to know you dive too! Sorry I don’t understand the “super quick test”. Would you explain please? Sorry for my bad English. Thanks!!!

One important question. What if the case tube is is too small and demaged and there is not original tube to replace it?Is it possible to drill the case and put a bigger tube with appropriate crown?I have a watch with NH35 movement and the tube it's very thin unlike the Seiko's tubes wich my watchmaker has but he tells me that is unposible to do.Maybe he dont have the tools for that and he don't want to tell me that's the reason.I'm sure that i watched a video where a watchmaker does exacrly that on one watch.Pls if you can answer to me Mr.Peter plssss

I noticed you didn't get an answer to your question- Anything is possible given time, patience and as you mentioned the right tools- the question is - how much money do you want to invest in your watch to get it done? I hope you managed to accomplish your goal as I've owned watches that aren't what others would consider valuable but to me they're priceless :)

Used crowns can be gotten on eBay. Be aware that you don’t always get really good crowns on line however. New has to be purchased from an authorized services.

It is amazing how many people don't realize they can take soap and a soft bristle brush to their watch to avoid this! That thing is disgusting!
