Quartz is part of watch history and should not be ignored.
Rolex is most known for their mechanical timepieces, but from the 1970s through 2001 the company also produced battery powered and quartz wristwatches.
In todays video we will show you how Rolex mastered the quartz crisis with the Oysterquartz models.

I love the watch and the design and your presentation was great too. Having said all that. I do feel it should be pointed out that servicing these watches (and they do require quite regular service + battery replacements) is quite a hassle and expensive compared to similarly priced automatic Rolex watches.
@GoldammerVintageWatches
@GoldammerVintageWatches 2 года назад
Yes, you're actually right about that. We have never had an Oysterquartz in service, but have also heard that it is very expensive ( 1000€ + ). Thanks for sharing & have a great Sunday!!

@@GoldammerVintageWatches You're right about those service costs. I'm glad to have discovered your channel. I think your presentations are all excellent and informative. Despite the cost I still hope to pick one up some day, and if times go even better, maybe even a Rolex Date 1530. The best of both worlds with the automatic caliber 1570 in an Oysterquartz case. :) Have a great Sunday yourself!

The Rolex Oyster quartz is quite simply a stunning integrated bracelet design. As good as anything that Gerald Genta as ever designed. I’ve never understood why Rolex never made the model with an in-house automatic movement. It would be an instant hit

I would love to have a Rolex quartz, I think they are so cool. Perhaps when my kids are out of school I’ll search for one and hopefully buy one. They are different. I wonder if Rolex was to make a new version of a quartz watch, would people buy it. Nah, probably not.
@GoldammerVintageWatches

We also don’t think so. That’s what makes this watches so rare. And they’ll getting rarer from year to year. So if you see an example in a good condition- take your chance !

I have the Rolex Datejust with Oysterquartz on bottom. The numbers are only lines with gold hands and gold and stainless steel bracelet. I think it was made in the end of 1970, belonged to my husband, but I started to wear it and love it. I wonder if you could tell me how many they made of this particular model. oh, the face is gold colored, not white.

As always... great summary for these masterpieces. 🔥 1:40 You guys know by coincidence the meaning of the engraving „adjusted temperature“ in movements? Thanks in advance!
@GoldammerVintageWatches
@GoldammerVintageWatches 3 года назад
Thanks buddy! In short It’s an analog thermocompensation. Oscillator stability over a wide temperature range was accomplished through the use of a thermistor to sense ambient temperature. Data from this sensor is sent to the electronic control module which then regulates the voltage to the quartz crystal, adjusting its rate accordingly.

Quartz is objectively better. And if it runs on multiband it doesn't get better as far as time keeping and accuracy. I have a casio oceanus that I wear every day and I'll never have to worry if it has accurate time or if it has enough power to operate (solar). Just strap it on and you're good to go forever 🎉

Thanks for your kind feedback man! It’s really hard to say what’s the truth in this case. Do you find a trustable source? Best Felix :)
@Watch-Crazy
@Watch-Crazy 3 года назад
@@GoldammerVintageWatches Hi Felix I will try and find the original French interview for you, there was also an article from 2011 after Gerald's passing where Rolex themselves openly admitted that he had been behind the designs for a number of their watches, he designed the King Midas, Texan 5100 among others, he also designed Omega's Speedmaster, you only have to look at the design of Universal Geneve's Compax Chronograph to see that their actually pretty much the same design...
@Watch-Crazy
@Watch-Crazy 3 года назад
@@GoldammerVintageWatches Also while I try and find that article, my French isn't all to good... here is some food for thought, the Rolex Texan and Oysterquartz were designed 3 years and 1 year respectively, prior to the Royal Oak which was a 5 minute sketch over dinner. Rolex launched the Texan in 1969 however they were not happy with Beta-21 movement so a few years later set to work on another movement the 5053/5055. So almost 8 years later in 1977, so very late to the party, they finally released the Oysterquartz. Now as Rolex already had the Texan out 3 years prior to the Royal Oak having been designed and they both look extremely similar, and we do know that Gerald had been working on a few watches like the King Midas for Rolex in the 60's and 70s and it was the norm prior to the launch of the Royal Oak for watch designers not to be mentioned, Gerald being the first in the industry to be mentioned with the launch of the Royal Oak, then it certainly puts all the pieces of the puzzle together.
