Agree 100%! All roads lead back to the Rolex Day Date. When you grow up and you’re finished playing with tin-can Rolex sports models and you move beyond the precious metal hype pieces, the daydate is where the real man will land. Nice content, keep up the great work!
Couldn’t agree more I too have some nice sports models but now feel that I prefer the day date my problem is getting to see the colour combinations in person
@@TheWatchGuysTV Thanks. That’s what my AD got me. Nice piece so I took it but I’m registered for multiple Pieces with multiple ADs. This is the one that came through at this time. I had to say yes of course. Plus I just found out that it got discontinued last week so that’s always a good thing.
I actually prefer the Roman numerals over hour markers or diamonds. Day date watches are just breath taking. Where ever you go people respect you when they see you wearing one.
One day. I only want 3 Rolex. My current is a 41 DJ two tone jube, fluted champagne dial. A Modern classic. Then in 6 years for my 40th a black two tone sub or two tone SD, then when I’m 50 a yellow gold DD
When they were still rather readily available, I was in awe of them but the price tag stopped me in my tracks, not the least because they tended to lose value immediately. I even encountered the white gold olive dial at a steep discount and passed. Silly me. And while walking through the mall with the family, it’s the rose gold olive dial model that was available in a window. Couldn’t go in. Still have nightmares about it. But my honest fav is the white dial. Pure and stunning. I do like the onyx as well though.
I don’t know much about watches. Just 5 months ago I bought myself a Rado Automatic Open Heart Centrix in rose gold. I absolutely love the color and being able to see the gears working in the background. I always wear it when I get the chance. And just yesterday I was walking around the mall and decided to head over to the jeweler where I got my watch from and after looking around, a G-Chrono caught my attention with its gold color and black leather straps. I ended up purchasing it and absolutely love it! Idk how it works getting into watch collecting but I sure am interested. The Day Date Presidential line are absolutely beautiful and would want to own one some time in the future. Another thing I really really love is the quality of packaging. The packaging on these watches are so damn good. I’m a sucker for good packaging.
I’ve always said, when you’re done playing with Tin-can sports Rolex, and when you grow up and become a real man, all roads lead back to the Rolex Day-Date! Aka Mr Valjoux
Personally I like the DayDate a lot. Thinking to ask my local AD for a piece next year (my ideal would be either the RG Chocolate Dial, RG Olive Dial, the new RG Ombre Dial or the YG Green Dial). And yes, I agree it is a watch of prestige. Even though there are definitely pricier Pateks, but there is just that classiness which Daydate has that a Patek doesn’t
I was offered a white gold DayDate this week, complete with full diamond bezel and silver diamond baguette dial. I was sorely tempted and if it had been any other dial I would have bought it. However, it just didn't quite do it for me. If it had had the black dial it would have been perfect imho. I kind of think I shouldn't like a full diamond bezel but it just looked amazing. Rolex gem setting is second to none and still done by hand apparently.
As someone with two of these Rose Gold and Yellow Gold with the diamond champagne dial... It is worth it! Most people never ask me about it, but the looks I get are amazing
Just bought my 118238 with the green sunburst dial and lumed hourmarkers. I really feel this is the one that stays. There is something very powefull in this watch.
I’m debating the onyx or the olive dial I have not made my mind up yet because I’m debating for future investment reasons what do you guys think for the better investment
I bought my yellow gold, black face with diamonds in 2002. It's got the unusual bark finish on the bezel and middle links of the bracelet, which I personally love. I don't wear it as much as I should. It rocks with any outfit. Great video, can't wait to see what you add to your outrageous collection.
I sport the same watch with a silver dial. It's my only watch, so it's worn daily. It seems that Role models like ours with the bark finish that aren't very popular when they first come out, end up being one collectors will want in the future. I won't sell mine. I will pass it on to my son or grandson.
The Day-Date has been my dream watch for years. This timepiece is absolutely timeless. Rolex got the new 40 right! I've liked the yellow gold baguette dial model but that platinum meteorite is making me think twice. Great video.
Bought mine in 2018 228239 white gold quadrant dial. Wasnt wearing it as much maybe for dinner because it demands attention from others and was self concious. I am in the hobby and have various “important” rolex pieces. Have 3 months wearing it as a daily after i suffered a motorcycle accident, the self concious thing went out the window. Life is short. And was my grail watch. Its heavy in a good proportional way. This turned out to be my daily, the others are winded twice a month but no wrist time
Excellent video, loved the pictures of each watch, just wish you stated rough msrp prices and rough grey market current prices from and to price ranges would be awesome
Yes, the day dates are great. But I love and prefer your Daytona - I picked up the exact same watch from my AD 18months ago. It is a serious piece of watch.
I must admit, I quite like the onyx, but to me - the champagne dial on the yellow gold with plain stick hour markers screams CLASSIC! It remind me a bit of a gold bracelet - with no fancy dial winking at you. It's a major flex without appearing to try too hard. It's also a tiny bit small for my 8 inch wrist, but I don't think it would matter as much as with a steel sports.
Can’t beat gold polished Roman numerals that sparkle like jewels in the sunlight. Loving the sun ray dial man that pops!AMZWATCH watches. What a beautiful subtle piece.
I have the smooth bezel 228206 with the meteorite dial. MUCH nicer than the new fluted platinum bezel. Mine is 2022.. so maybe the last of the smooth bezel platinum DD's.
I’m sorry I like your videos but you couldn’t be more off regarding the Day Date. Everyone loves the Day Date it’s classy & timeless. It’s more showy than the other models you just mentioned & considered more prestigious than most of the models. I’m a watch collector & I have many friends that are & many have day dates. There’s countless videos of celebrities wearing them. It’s an iconic watch with probably the greatest watch bracelet style of all time the president. You are the minority of watch collectors that doesn’t have any my friend.
I must agree with Michael, the day date is so classy and fit for every occasion. I find the submariner tacky and is worn by every sale person up and down the country
Somehow because your friends have day/ dates you're generalizing and of the notion that it's of the most popular of models? Honestly, I don't think it's supposed to be the most popular model. It's a model made of precious metals which are unattainable for the majority of watch people or people (in general).
Green Stella day-date is incredible. Absolute shame they only make it in 40mm. Any day-date 36mm is the perfect watch imo. 40mm are… meh I do urge you to try a 36mm. Proportions are perfect, classy, and timeless compared to the 40mm
It’s the watch people get when they’ve “made it”. You’ll see them on everyone from scrap dealers to gangsters to bankers. Warren Buffet wears one. Even Jimmy Savile wore one. They are iconic but they are also such a go-to for status I feel you’ll need to go vintage stone or stella to get the nod from those in the know. Or meteorite as you showed. That new version you showed was amazing and I think so classy. Do you have the Vintage Rolex book by David Silver? Worth getting if you are looking at vintage rare dial day dates…
"...Jimmy Saville wore one..." I can believe it. It probably made an interesting combo with his tracksuit, gold chains, and come-cuddle-daddy aftershave. Moi? I'm sticking to Patek, Lange and Journe as far as precious metals go. Thanks very much.
I think we need to verify if Jimmy Savile wore one. However, JS also drove a Rolls-Royce and liked cigars…,don’t see myself giving up those anytime soon.
Watchguy you describe the watches very very well n your choices are also our family choices which we own 4 president watches. You are the best n right person describing rolex n more power to you . God bless n don't regret buying prestigious watches like rolex . You only live once make me live longer . I work.hard so I deserve to love nice watches
The Rolex watches I own I bought at retail. There are more I want and a 36mm day-date is on that list. I've never considered paying over retail. Recent events may be turning things in the customers' favour again.
Meteorite dial platinum DayDate is exactly the same as the white gold version except for the metal. I’ve tried on the white gold and found it stunning. The Diamond indices are also understated. I didn’t even notice them until I had the watch on my wrist. I ordered the black onyx dial for my wife. I’m secretly hoping that she doesn’t like it. Because I’ll take it if she doesn’t!
I actually like the roman numerals on the day-date. It is probably the only Rolex where I like them though, as I think they look pretty ordinary on the daytona. One interesting day-date that I feel you missed were the vintage 18008's, no matter how you feel about them, they are definitely note worthy for starting the whole gem-set/rainbow bezel thing.
I love my yellow gold 36 mm Day Date. It depends on one's personality, whether one can wear something so elegant. I don't understand why watch collectors gaslight the Day Date. Perhaps it's because they don't have great style.
Ahh now this is a great Video. And also my favourite is the same as yours! Not a fan of the day date II or 40mm. It has to be 36mm. I have a date just 36mm and i love it!
Not really a watch that I'd consider owning on first glance, however, that one that you show at 9:01 in the bottom left of the screen with the blue fumé dial looks awesome (even if it does have diamonds as the indices which is another huge NOPE for me). That Eisenkiesel Dial looks great too, but NOT with the diamond bezel! The green fumé with diamond indices looks good too, and I AM also a fan of the meteor dial, personally I'd prefer it with sapphire markers instead of diamond, but I guess that's just me being picky! You've certainly opened my eyes, but I suspect that the varients of this watch that I actually like are towards the top end of the price range for this model, and as such that puts it out of the range of what I would consider paying.
Unfortunately they still cost more than my car. Instead of shelling out mad money that I don't have, I bought a Tudor Date-Day, a nice little 36mm piece that cost me about $2,500 new.
@@xdemipaddingtonnot if you get the right one…. My m2comp is a future classic and even with the 15k miles it has on it i can get my moneys now from what i spent on it new, lets not forget dozens of other cars like the LFA mk4 supra turbo, e46 m3, focus rs, Ferrari f50, honda s2k…etc
You get one yet? Also, weird how I have not yet seen a single fluted bezel dd40 platinum in the wild or online since it was announced in April- perhaps the bezel is too hard for them to make still?
@@TheWatchGuysTV lol! It would be my first day date as well. Your correct, you definitely need one I the collection. I need something different other than all my other sport watches. I have a Batman, hulk, black sub, Daytona, yacht master blue dial. This would be something different other than a traditional sports watch.
Would a Professionally Refinished Rolex Dial with added Meteorite and Aftermarket 10 Custom Added Genuine Round (VVS H Color) Diamond Markers, (The Meteorite and Diamonds are not added by Rolex), New Aftermarket Plastics with Cyclops Magnifying Lens Aperture Above The Date, (This Plastic is Not Manufactured by Rolex) be a good investment watch? or not because its not an original meteorite Rolex?
Aside from the large coloured bezel I have to disagree with the daydates and datejusts being less "showy" than the gmt master 2s or submariners. I'd say they actually are more showy just in a more subtle way. More blingy but not as bulky and noticeable on wrist. More known as an expensive (looking) watch than a submariner or gmt imo. I think the day dates and date just are just more iconic and blingy/flashy than the subs and gmts
firstly welcome back & great video. Sadly the DD just conjures images of Warren Buffet and Charlie Munger types. Its an old man's watch, end of.. but as it seems you're growing into them, maybe that says something about where you are in life?🤔 I'm older than you and nearly as old as Warren but certainly not yet willing to tell the world via one of these things I'm an old fuddie duddie. Some of the dials are either a perverse in joke at Rolex or made for those gaudy nouveau riche types with more money than taste.(Tony Soprano ..) The absolute apex of the "buy a Rolex to impress others..." comment however just to totally undermine my whole stance, the meteor dial just and I mean just sneaks under the bar as acceptable but even then it's not a watch I'd ever particularly want above at least 10 others. I however sincerely hope you manage to get that one and love to see a video review of it wear it in good health as they say. 👍
Enjoy your videos. Own the Eisenkiesel with the fluted besel. Never get tired of looking at the dial. If you get the chance to see it in person you will love it. Photos do not do it justice. However, the meteorite dial is stunning. Happy hunting!
I sold my day-date..tired to rewind to day ... all gold bracelet n diamond over the counter bezel... exchange for 3 watches... datejust.. sub n gmt... much better ... won't get sick like day date...
