Great video. Thanks for sharing. Love the nature shots and the rollies in action. Watching it I couldn’t imagine the VC out there in the field doing the same. I’m sure it “could” handle it but I’m not sure it should. The sub and expII look right at home tho. Again thanks for sharing. Looking forward to more content.

I applaud 👏 your decision. The VC would be more of a dress up watch compared to the Rolexes which are more versatile for what you do plus with your extra straps you can change their look. That alone kinda gives you more than 2 watches to wear.

Great choice. Tbh I think the standard time and date Overseas is way overpriced and over valued. If I saw a blue one for $17k full set I would probably pull the trigger. But at $25-29k is insane and dumb. If you want a Vacheron get a 56 and get into the brand for Sub prices.

I think you made the wise choice! In military jargon, TWO IS ONE AND ONE IS NONE! Having a back up in the field is imperative. Those two Rolex watches are brilliant choices, sir. While the VC is very cool, it is putting all your eggs in one basket. I'd take the two Rollies any day of the week.

I'm an owner of the 3-hand Overseas (4500v) and also 2 Rolexes (the Sub you have and a BLNR). The VCO is undoubtedly a superior watch, it simply makes the Rolexes look cheap side by side. It's a watch that stands toe to toe with a Nautilus or Royal Oak and is in some ways superior. One such way is durability. It has 150m WR, actually more than your Exp II. Magnetism and shock protection. Also note this Gen 3 VCO is the first of the line to have an in-house VC movement. VC actually used bigger and more durable parts (you can actually see it through the caseback) and also intentionally used less parts, mainly for durability and also for ease of service. Mine is also just as accurate as my Rolexes, +-2s/day. But it's positionally variable. Crown up loses time, crown down gains. So I can regulate it to basically run dead on everyday. Lack of hacking doesn't bother me as I can use the above to get it to gain/lose as much as needed over the course of several days,. Having said ALL that, you made the right choice. The VCO is a great choice for a more active office worker. It's a watch you can take on vacation, swim with it, etc, beat it up a bit more than any sane person should dare with a Royal Oak or Nautilus. But for someone like you who is an adventurer and explorer, Rolex is the much better choice as it's still going to be more durable, easier to service, etc.

Sorry guys! Couldn’t disagree more!! If you’re all about the movement and accuracy get an Omega! Vacheron is one of the trinity for Christ sake! The epitome of watch making! I have 5 Rolex watches, and yes they are outstanding watches! But my 4520V/210A-B128 Overseas is next level! Don’t make excuses coz you didn’t want to trade 2 for 1! Coz that’s what it really came down to 🤷🏻‍♂️
@cheynewalls

I agree, the VC is next level and I want one (and will have a VC one day) in my watch collection, but right now in my watch collecting journey I have two epic watch that are more designed to be out in the field and a better fit for me at the moment. Rest assured tho, one day I will be making videos about my VC Overseas on this channel. Cheers

Hi, here is my perspective, I own a VCO Chronograph Gen 2 but have previously owned Rolex Explorer and Rolex Sea Dweller which I returned within 2 days as it was so uncomfortable. 1) Rolex are overhyped mass produced but well marketed watches, 2) VC are 150 years older and side by side make the two watches you have look like toys. I wear my Gen 2 daily for normal duties but if I’m off out into the wild and scraping rocks etc then I wear my Apple Watch ultra which obviously has a battery life but other than that does everything a ‘tool’ watch does and more and you really won’t care if it gets damaged. Ignore the Rolex fanboys and get the VC you don’t see many out in the wild and they are beautiful.

Thank God ! I was worried you would trade the Rolex's. I have watched all of your watch vids dozens of times each! Listening careful to what is important to you on all levels. The Overseas is a factuation watch for you I think...still pursue it but the Explorer 2 is you with the Sub a close second. That Explorer 2 will be with you to pass down. You are connected to it now. If you had done the deal...within 48 hours or less you would have been regretting the trade. This is based on my observations of you. I never would have considered it in the first place personally. I made a mistake like that decades ago and it still bugs me...thanks, Doug

Man, such an honest and heartfelt account of a dilemma I've been in too (we did discuss in comments somewhere else!). As a marine biologist, forester and farmer I've worked, dived, mountaineered and hunted in my Submariner and Explorer (1). Working these luxury tools is what it's about. For me, their utility is their luxury. But I too was considering a VCODT to pair with a Fifty Fathoms (which I did get) - was kinda luxury versions of my favourites. But my research showed me it just wouldn't be up to the job (unlike the FF): that bracelet just isn't robust enough and I suspect the movement wouldn't be either. So I think you made the right decision. And if collecting watches has taught me anything its a) if you want a particular watch, don't settle for a surrogate and b) brands make new watches! Don't be too surprised to see a VCO in Ti at some point soon. VC will be hit had by the economic downturn and are run by a very commercial conglomerate - they will need to diversify the Overseas line. At the end of your vid I noticed the chronos! I can wholly recommend Speedmasters - very tough and also Sinn chronos. The 103 is an awesome watch, but I'd go for the Ti or standard without the screw pushers. Super tough and very legible, though Sinn lume isn't as good as Omega or Rolex. For another 'ultimate tool' chronograph what about Breguet's new XX/20? A very good chronograph with a brilliant new movement. Or another: the Blancpain Bathyscaphe chronograph - one of the best chrono calibre, dive waterproof (including pusher use) in steel, ti or ceramic. Blancpain are a bargain used and top tier watchmaking. Worth checking out Laurent Ballesta's photography, sponsored by Blancpain - impressive!
@cheynewalls
@cheynewalls 8 месяцев назад
Love that saying "their utility is their luxury" I'll have to use that. Yeah, like you after I did all that research on the VC Overseas the Rolex watches at this moment in my watch collecting journey are just a better fit for me. The bracelet of the VC did make me a little nervous. Lets hope, if the Ti Everest did come back I would be all over that. You are right it has happened in the past with VC, bring back a limited edition watch for a "bigger" market. Congrads on the Fifty Fathoms, an amazing watch. Thank you for the info on the chronographs, I'll check out Breguet & Bathyscaphe chronograph. I'm in the market for a chronograph to help with my night/star trails photography. My Rolex Sub and Explorer are prefect for precision timing longer exposures, but for those very very long exposures (hours) it would just be easier and more convenient to track on a chronograph watch. I very much enjoyed watching Laurent Ballesta's photography video, epic stuff. Cheers
@jameshoward9700
@jameshoward9700 8 месяцев назад
No worries! All the things that these great watches live through, all the memories. I think people don't always get how much a watch is part of your life in the outdoors. And for me, it must be mechanical. Yes, for sure, I'd have thought a chrono would be ideal for the astro work. Very cool - those clear desert skies you guys get! Re the chronos, I think the Speedmaster is so beautifully legible - it has almost a feel of old skool photographic equipment. And something very cool about timing the stars with a Moonwatch! But the Sinns are legible and tough and the Blancpain is next level horology - and both give you a timing bezel too. Best of luck (I went Speedy, but maybe one day the Blancpain)! Glad you like Ballesta's work - a nice guy and pushing the boundaries of both dive exploration and photography.@@cheynewalls
@cheynewalls
@cheynewalls 8 месяцев назад
@@jameshoward9700 ha, I never thought about a Speedmaster for photographing the stars is a bit poetic. I'll keep you posted on my decision, the Speedmaster is the front runner at the moment, but still have yet to accurately see a lot of the contenders in-person. Cheers

Good to see you made the decision to stick to the Rolexes! It might be interesting for you to investigate the design date of the VC movement. I suspect that it is indeed an old design, thus there was not as much need for hacking seconds as it is today. That might also be the reason why the Rolexes are much more accurate; they are just up-to-date designs with the latest and greatest technology. VC on the other side has a movement that is "just" pretty looking but not as advanced in terms of technology/materials used.
@cheynewalls
@cheynewalls 8 месяцев назад
Thanks, yeah the Rolex watches are a better fit for me. As for the VC, well that is why I couldn't believe it didn't have hacking seconds. The Overseas has a newer movement and VC first in-house movement for the Overseas. But I guess since it is there first attempt, it might not be up to the standers of other in-house movements. Cheers
