I look at the SKX and think "how can they make this watch for that price?" whereas I look at the Rolex and think " how can they charge that much for this watch?"
The craftsmanship on the Rolex is far more superior. Platinum injected into the bezel numbers and the ceramic bezel itself will last a lifetime for sure. The white gold dial markers are also polished to the highest degree. The clasp is also tested and any minor flaw will require them to redo it. Even with the actual movement within the watch it’s obvious Rolex is better. You get your moneys worth that’s for sure. I don’t understand you Seiko fanboys who shit on a more expensive product just because it’s mainstream.
Even if I can afford a Rolex, 90% of the people will say I'm wearing a fake, so I sold it and wear the perfect watch Seiko. To wear a Rolex you must accompany it with your luxury car and your luxury house or the 5Cs namely, Cash, Car, Credit card, Condominium and Country club membership. So if you don't have all that and only cash then wearing a Seiko is the best.
Lol, no. If you're superficial and wear watches for the sake of gaining recognition from others, then you're right. However, I don't understand why would you be bothered about people who think that your Rolex is fake, and worst of all, you let them affect your life decisions. To make decisions or change your choices based on the opinions of others is sad.
I wear a Rolex and only drive a Fiesta. Granted, it was a graduation gift, but of course you can own a Rolex if you’re not uber rich... who cares if people think it’s fake.
The SKX007J1 is kind of like Rocky vs Apollo Creed in Rocky 1. Apollo was the best, no question. And Rocky knew he couldn't beat him, but he still went the distance & held his own. Boxing analogies aside, the 007 once modded with a ceramic bezel insert, bezel, domed sapphire crystal, new hands, crown & high quality band, becomes a giant killer
This is the Internet age and ALL old world proverbs are dead! We do NOT keep recycling ancient sayings anymore! You are on the Internet and you WILL make a new language immediately! The Internet will force you to do it, so you have no choice! HUMANS NOW KNOW time is dead as a concept. It doesn't exist! It's just ANOTHER LAYER in a zone in space. Vertical time zones do exist too! Not just earth time zones. It's just a square in space. Everywhere you go, you're in a new time zone. You can move into any time zone you want to. Internet humans are wiser than pre internet humans. 30 years of time has been compressed into 2 years of Internet age time. Overnight, you can become an instant expert! The world has never seen these types of humans before!
I own a Rolex 117610LN (7k €) an I just bought a Seiko Prospex SBDC033 (500€) for scuba diving, the two watches are perfectly comparable in any term, the only difference is that's Rolex has cermanic bezel and sapphire crystal, but this cannot justify the price difference. I also own a Rolex deepsea 116660, and I saw a Grand Seiko SBGH255 (comparable street prices) and the Seiko literally blows away the Rolex...if Rolex will ever produce a watch like that, would sell it for at least 20k. I'll sell my deepsea and buy the Seiko, and maintain only my collectionanable Rolex (16520 Patrizzi 6265 gold and some others..). But quality vs price Seiko wins by far...
funny thing is nobody dares to disagree with you. Look at the other comments, they all bashes Seiko and say Rolex is much much better. I can only afford Casio DW series so I'm not worthy to comment further more
I’ve owned my skx007 for about 4 yrs already, I love it! I don’t own a Rolex submariner yet, but everyone I know that does own submariners is always commenting on my skx. I’m always around my family, friends & colleagues that own Rolex, so I feel like I blend right in. Ppl just assume my skx a Rolex now, because I’m always around ppl w submariners which can literally be seen/noticed from a mile away, especially by someone who knows
I have a quartz hello kitty watch that I got from the dollar store and it keeps better time than both of them... even seems to keep going after a swim which is nice. It even projects a lot about the owner (cheap pathetic middle aged man) which I am going for clearly. Joking aside, people buying either of these watches are not going for practicality necessarily. Especially the Rolex which I, like most people, am in no position to justify financially in any way shape or form.
@@gr33rtheartist think you don’t get the point. You don’t buy an expensive watch to know the time. You have much cheaper alternatives for that (phone for example). It just a jewel. It’s the only “allowed” for a man. And we don’t look at it from how much is precise. Sorry bro. Start again😊
I have both and I wouldn't say much better. Value is also subjective. My Rolex actually made me money and will continue to. Not sure about my GS several years down the road.
iv a few divers rolex tudor seiko but for me the true value is how you feel when wearing a watch , the seiko is a go anywere watch any country any environment , no worry of losing it or being mugged or sctratching it . Can you imagine being a skx going on all the holidays and swimming diving going to bars and football matches its a great watch life lol.
I enjoyed this video, I do think that seiko's history is really downplayed as well as many of their industry innovations. It is a great comparison showing the high points and place in the spectrum for both timepieces. Thanks, bold move my friend, comparing those two watches!
A point to remember is that you can throw away the Seiko and buy a new one 4 or 5 times versus factory service for the Roller. Mine costs about a grand for Rolex to clean and lube (day-date model).
A very good point that is too. It will also take months to get your Rolex back from a service as well. As for the 1000 dollar service price, just like Rolex when you buy one, servicing is also very overpriced. It is a case of they can charge you that because they just can 😲
The problem with watches at rolexes price point is that people perceive them as fake, or in other words if u are wearing 4 times cheaper watch looking as good from a distance you are pretty much making the same statement. Its a status thing but the watch has it much more difficult than a car. The car on the other hand has much more to it than just its looks. I would buy rolex if it meant to me as much as skx to some people. If u r rich enough to afford 15 rolexes then buy one but if its your 2 months salary than its not a smart move. Dont make a mistake of having a watch that is the most valuable thing u own.
If you buy a watch only for a "statement " you are right.....but also wrong because you have to buy it for passion and do not care of other people. Anyway, a good Rolex watch CAN be a good investment, daytona 16520 sold for 8/9k€ 4/5 years ago...now it worth 20/25k €...make you evaluation, and it is happening also with other minor references (to not talk about manual winding Daytona ..there is a world...)
What is the meaning of Rolex submariner? Over pricing? oh yeah....! in other words money out I do not like that Rolex submariner I like seiko 007 that's not practical but also quality and durable my grandfather used seiko 007 for 3 decades unbelievable I love seiko 007
@@leatt6136 my sub looses 4 sec per day which I think is poor to be honest, I also have a dj 41 which looses 2 sec per week which is great! I don't know anything about the skx tbh I'm just disappointed in my sub
The Rolex is jewelry. The SKX is a real dive watch. I would never wear a Rolex on an actual Dive. Rolex is not even ISO certified. What if the crown seal fails and it floods ? That's $10k down the toilet.
Its funny, i had my skx on one day. My buddy had his submariner. I had never seen one before. So i swapped him. Tried on the sub. Compared them. Looked at em. Instantly i liked my skx more. And I always thought the sub would be my ultimate watch. Ever since that day 3 years ago I’ve never considered adding a submariner to my collection.
@@jblackjack Yeah they did the same thing to Howard Hughes back in the 60s , he was working with the CIA developing stealth aircraft and space tech and they made his company a "charity" and he avoided paying tens of millions back then . Same goes down now with the likes of Google and Amazon - both vile companies involved in crushing our freedoms and installing the surveillance state more and more each day.
There's no way anyone into dive watches doesn't choose the Seiko. Seiko just owns it. A Rolex says you're a KPMG drone, you need to wear a watch to put up an image. Seiko divers were worn by special forces. Rolexes are worn by dumb cuts getting bonus money.
Ronald Nixon Rolex were worn by the British Navy Divers and the army. Seiko also have been worn by forces. Both have been worn in Bond movies...... I have both...... they both great brands..... But nothing compares to wearing a Rolex and seeing all the envious faces trying to get a good look..... That will never happen with any Seiko
Wait 5 years from now...people will be able to trade a nos skx..for a Rolex. Why? Because Rolex is still produced...while Skx is no longer produced and has become a classic neo-vintage tool 😉
Why do you think the Rolex would be more reliable? Is a Bently more reliable than a CRV? Absolutely not. If I had a situation where my life depended on a watch I had to trust I'd absolutely choose the Seiko everytime. Mass produced items are almost always more reliable because they get tested and refined a lot more because of the numbers involved. Rolex subs you cant even read the date unless viewed straight on due to the stupid bubble. Although this one doesnt even have that.
I have two SKX 00 watches. The SKX007j on a factory Seiko silicone band, and the SKX011j, with the beautiful orange dial and wonderful jubilee bracelet. Of course, both have the legendary 7S26 movements. You can't hack or manual wind the 7s26 movement, but that is not a complaint. The 7s26 is incredibly robust and reliable. Both watches have performed flawlessly for years, often under extreme conditions. They have endured conditions such as snow, ice, heat, humidity, swimming and light diving without faltering. I have not serviced either watch yet. If something goes wrong with either, then maybe I will have them looked at. They have already paid for themselves many times over...
the heart of rolex is functionality. While rolexes are luxurious watches, rolexes are way more dependable as a functional timepiece than the cheap seikos and are way more reliable for keeping time. Remember people wore rolexes crawling in the mud, going to war, and climbing mountains
You state that the Rolex is the better watch - question is though, is it $7000 better? For me, the SKX is the best everyday watch out there. Smart enough to wear to work, yet cheap enough to be able to walk into a dive bar and not worry you're going to robbed.
realistic. the skx does everything the sub does. you're paying for the label. you can put a more expensive bracelet on the skx i guess...i had one for years and the hardlex never scratched btw.
both watch are good on their own way. seiko is also an iconic brand it depends on your budget if you can afford a rolex then go for it...but in the end their purpose are both same just to tell the time
OK this is the deal: when you are in Saint Tropez and you just sailed into the harbor with your 60 foot yacht and you like to have a drink in one of the bars opposite the harbor, you want to wear a Rolex. Nothing else. When you want to have a dive watch, go for a Seiko diver. When something happens to your watch on 50 meters deep, the watch should be not more expensive then a couple of hundred dollars, not 10.000 dollars....It's that simple. Nobody goes diving with a 10.000 dollar watch, nobody. They don't even shower with it. You don't go to the supermarket with a Ferrari, you take your other car.....
Nice for you. A bit impractical, but doable if you trust the parking skills of other drivers....and of course not enough space to do the shopping for a whole week. So you have to go every day,....that's even nicer. No doubt you wear a Rolex as well.
I usually wear the sub around the house for just about anything. Got past the whole "try not to get it damaged" phase. I just like wearing it everywhere. Thanks for watching.
(Disclaimer: I own an SKX as well as a seamaster and love them both) Everyone on here thats like 'The Rolex is worth like $1000, MAX, like WHY would ANYONE get ripped off when you can buy the Seiko', hell why buy an Armani suit when theres Jos A Bank?? Why pay for an original piece of art when you can just go to Bed Bath and Beyond and get a canvas print?? I mean, I could go to a nice steakhouse for dinner and drink a Bordeaux with my ribeye, but wouldn't the cheapest Mondavi cabernet available and the Outback leave me just as drunk and full? I mean, entirely swiss made of 904 steel and superior components and more R&D and patents to their name than Apple, or the (usually) chinese made non rehaut lining up non hacking non handwinding mineral crystal not finely finished Seiko?? You're all philistines.
I own and respect both watches. I've come to realize that it's near impossible attempting to rationalize luxury, esp to seiko fanboys. "My SKX has the same function and design at 40x less the price of a Sub!" Whatever makes you happy I guess lol
Those of us who earn tens of millions a year at hedge funds wear Seiko divers because we know their history and wouldn't be caught dead in a Sub, that's what 25 year old losers at consulting firms like KPMG buy with their first bonus.
Yes, but the people on planet mars will pay 10 billion $ for some object from the original planet of humans and a watch can easily be transported over to mars! So the seiko can be sold for ALOT of money real soon! Don't buy games cause they won't be allowed on the spaceship! They will be worthless!
The bottom line is you buy a watch that makes you happy and one that you can afford. Yes a $200 watch and a $8000 watch will do the same thing. In the same way a Ferrari Enzo and a Toyota corolla will take you to the store. Just one is a little more stylish and prestigious than the other!
People who downplay Rolex can't afford one. So, they try to justify a cheaper watch being better. People who appreciate both the Seiko and Rolex...usually own both. More often that not, if someone has the disposable income to get a Rolex...they are going to get a Rolex. Don't downplay Rolex just because you can't afford one.
I have had a Rolex GMT master since 1984 it has been in my safe for at least 5 years and I’m happy wearing a Seiko. The Rolex needs a service and I’m not about to spend the money.
Say what you like about the Rolex,it's over priced because watch snobs will pay the ridiculous prices asked for their products. The SKX,in my opinion,is a better looking watch.OK,OK,so It's not so well made as the Rolex but at 40 times cheaper than the Rolex, the Seiko is a much better all round purchase and don't forget, you could buy two new SKX's, for the price of a service on a Rolex. One further reason the SKX is better,no body is likely to mug me to steal my Seiko are they.
The details are from 0:40 to 1:50 . There also links to reviews for more detail throughout the video. The message is that they have different roles. More money will give you refinement, necessary? Not really but if you're willing to pay for them, you aren't wasting money doing so. Not looking/ don't care about refinement + little details? The SKX is all you need. You get a good everyday worry free watch.
That may have been the most intelligible video I have ever seen. Not to mention a delight, in that, I gained all necessary information in such short duration. Thank you!
If you can afford a Rolex buy a Blancpain Fifty Fathoms instead. Much nicer watch and a lot rarer. Buy your SEIKO SKX quick because they'll start to increase in value now they are discontinued. Both excellent watches though.
One is a great watch but not a great value. The other is an excellent watch and a spectacular value. With rare exceptions, the more expensive a sports watch is, the less likely it will ever encounter any serious sporting activities. Most people aren't buying a Rolex or Omega diver and then treating it like their beater watch. I have a Milgauss, but when I go camping, it's always my Orient Ray Raven II on my wrist.
What type of argument is that, if you are a asthetic buyer you shouldn't get the Rolex submariner. Is the opssite. If you care about the horogical history, movement and material manufacture you should defeenetely choose the submariner.
After all, not one in a thousand of us will ever be able to own/ware a "genuine" Rolex! New, used, borrowed or even rented! I just (Dec.2019) bought my first SKX007J. And it wasn't no $198. I had to fork over $329. PLUS SHIPPING! Not what us "working folks" would call a cheap watch! Not by a long shot.....
Im not a fan of Rolex. Or Lets say swiss brands in general. I love my Seiko’s to much. You get real craftsmanship for the price that it is realy worth. Not a watch that is actually worth like 1500-2000 But sold for 8000.
Lol. I'll choose the $200 all day and can replace it monthly if i like. No worries. No hassles. ...And it's Japanese = precision and quality. Rolex = unjustifiedly overpriced. Lol. Seiko all the way. :)
Wacko idiot design. They're famous for that kind of ornament style. It's always an object designed for some future which hasn't arrived yet! But now! The price has been jacked up to be THE SAME as a euro watch. There's no difference in price and fame. Only ornament is different. Your idea about watch buying is dead. All thanks to seiko themselves. So your comment is wrong and you're an uneducated idiot!
These comparisons are dumb.either you want to pay less and get a Camry or add luxury and drive a Lexus...submariner wears so much better more comfortable and you know you’re wearing a luxury watch when it’s on your wrist!!
you buy Rolex because you CAN,, not because it tells better time, or goes deeper. That goes for any other item that cost more then the cheaper version and we all have done that . This is for all the haters here justifying how SEIKO is better watch. And BTW I think Rolex is better looking watch IMHO
I love my skx and wear it far more that either of my Rolex watches point # 1 water resistance is great on my Explorer II but if my arms are under water and I crack a crystal my watch maker could restore the Rolex for the price of a decent used car the Seiko well 10 minutes on ebay and the Seiko is replaced and I can dry out the old one and have a parts watch.2 I live in the big city should a crack head rob me he won't cut my hand off for the Seiko. #3 the date sets quicker on the Seiko if I get carried away shaking it the decent used car thing again. I love Seiko my first watch was A Seiko I still own it and it runs fine 1988 I have a lot of Seiko's and its not about price Its about I have some that to me are worth owning The SKX 007 on a prestige diver band is a freaking awesome wearer wearer is that a word? any way I Love this channel because Seiko
The Rolex is a better watch. The Seiko is a better watch for the money. The Rolex is not 38x better as a watch. The Rolex may be a better investment, but there are better investments. Buy the Rolex to convince your business partners that you are serious.
A realistic view.... If your a diver... The SKX is a realistic option financially. Rolex is a showoff watch...by any standards diver or not....I've owned four subs.
..mi chiedo che razza di paragone sia , parliamo di livelli di orologeria su piani diversi, i paragoni si fanno tra orologi simili di categorie economiche simili. Il Seiko e' un'ottimo diver ma questo video è del tutto inutile.
