Rose tinted specs, I think...I remember runaway inflation, my first flat and I couldn't afford a telly: later, 3-day weeks, power cuts, mountains of uncollected garbage, the dead lying unburied; strikes, strikes & more strikes, as one after another our stagnant industries collapsed. I remember the oil wars and fuel rationing, bread shortages, the "Troubles", Bloody Sunday, one of the worst winters of the century (1978/9), the Ibrox Park disaster: the Viet Nam war, napalm bombing of civilians; the killing fields of Cambodia; US campus riots, the mass-beating of students by the National Guard; Watergate, Baader Meinhof, joining ther EEC... Life was quieter and slower. We had bread and milk delivered. We walked the lanes and picked blackberries, we went to the parks, the icecream van came, Grange Hill, Sapphire & Steel, Snorkel Parka coats, CB radio, summers that lasted forever, Neapolitan Chocolates at Christmas (before Kraft foods ruined Terry's), Pacers mints, homemade lollies, Sodastream. Pubs were pubs, have a go trying to have a few drinks and a laugh in a modern pub today! Its either all you can drink grotty pub-club and a stabbing afterwards, or pub-restaurant file in nice and neatly and sit down and eat your meal and go home. Britain was British. We made stuff. We saved and we bought cars outright, usually old bangers, that we loved and we had adventures and fun in them. And what do we really have now that even comes close??? I see a lot of miserable faces driving brand new cars, people distracted and consumed by their smartphone that they cannot put down, even while they are driving their expensive motor. But more than anything, people and life was just much much nicer. Price of progress.....

@@michaelmallory2926 I hate the fact that all our favourite drinks are being ruined by this sugar reduction tax. I personally can't stand the taste of any artificial sweeteners, as they leave a strange chemical taste in my mouth for hours. I wrote to Britvic about this a couple of years ago, and they said the majority of customers liked the taste of sweetened drinks. I'm not sure where they're getting their statistics from, because everyone I speak to hates the taste. Until recently, 7up was the only lemonade you could buy that didn't contain sweeteners. Now even that has succumbed, so it is impossible to buy lemonade now without artificial sweeteners. I now drink Coke a lot more than I used to, because it's the only fizzy drink that doesn't have sweeteners in it. Why can't we have the choice to pay a sugar tax if we want to?

tjf4375 it’s annoying when the mess with stuff, I would pay the extra too, I’m sure the Monster drink company still charge a sugar tax on their ‘zero’ products! On a side note, I bought one of my favourite aftershaves a while back that didn’t smell quite the same, I was really disappointed, so I googled it to find that the E.U were saying what could and couldn’t be used in colognes, in my case it wasn’t allowed to have real sandalwood in it anymore.

Dawn Finch It’s really easy, go to the government tv website and you’ll have to answer 3 or 4 straightforward multiple choice questions that will take you a few seconds and that is it. They use scare tactics with those letters they send it. It clearly says on their website what you can and can’t do. Even though the beeb get the money, you need the licence to watch any channel live (as it is being shown)so as long as you only watch Amazon, RU-vid, Netflix or other streaming services you will be ok.
