On this episode of the Reckless Wrench Garage, I prepare the cab of my Ford Ranger for a custom roll cage from TE Designs. The cage is pre-bent and notched and very good quality fit and finish. If you are looking for the best pre-bent roll cage kits, be sure to check out www.TEDesigns.com
If you are a DIY fabricator, all you need is a welder to get a race-spec cage. This kit saved me a ton of time building a completely custom roll cage.

what camera is that? it pans on its own?

I filmed those parts with a 360 camera. The camera is stationary and then in editing I move the field of view around to make the sequence.

Looks, good. Love the ranger, and that cage is very well done for a pre-bent one. Quality.

I believe this is one of the nicest pre-bent and notched cages on the market. It is awesome how you can order complete tube chassis' and roll cages in a box now and all the hard work is done!

With the cage built so close to the body how do you weld the back side against the body?
@RecklessWrenchGarage
@RecklessWrenchGarage 2 года назад
I show that in the next episode. I cut the tacs off the frame mounts and move the cage forward and down slightly. This gives enough room to get the top and back of the tubes

I see why guys build EXO cages now, that looks like a lot of work to install a cage inside the cab but well done Chris!

Why internal over external now you don't have any body protection
@RecklessWrenchGarage
@RecklessWrenchGarage 2 года назад
External cages are alright for slow speed crawling and flops, but to make them adequate for speed and really bad rolls an external cage isn't the best option. I am willing to live with some body damage for the tradeoff of a much stronger cage.

As I watched you with that ratchet strap I was already cringing just before it snapped. Been there, done that and will probably do it again. Lol.

Way to remind me that I should add Dynamat to my tin can with most of a roll cage already built inside it haha. You started filming stuff with the new place and the new shop yet?
@RecklessWrenchGarage
@RecklessWrenchGarage 2 года назад
I am still about a month out before the new shop will be in a state for filming. I am documenting the shop build, so there will more new content, but different content from any of my other videos!

Where did you find that belt grinder attachment?
@RecklessWrenchGarage
@RecklessWrenchGarage 2 года назад
I got it from Amazon. It worked great for awhile but then the rubber on the belt drum fell apart. Also the variable speed grinder I got from Amazon gets stupid hot

At least there's some assembly required with that cage because when I built mine for my Jeep I did it from scratch.
@RecklessWrenchGarage
@RecklessWrenchGarage 2 года назад
I have built a few cages from scratch and this kit has higher quality bends and notches than most weekend warriors can make. The amount of time and materials saved this cage easily paid for itself.

@@RecklessWrenchGarage Pre built and especially the TE designs one is for people who don't want to take the time to build a proper race chassis and are ok with slapping shit together. Tube continuity, and lack of triangualtion are just basic things that kit lacks. But hey fuck it its your rig do what you want!
