Almost done! Rebuilding the Roll In Saw has almost come to an end. In this video we finish the clamping mechanism with the Heinrich Fixture Locks with their push plates and support bars. We mill a pocket in the bottom of the push plate, drill and tap, counterbore, countersink, and even use the saw!
All that's left is to replace the feed cylinder and some fine tuning of the saw travel.

One comment to my fellow East Valley neighbor. I LOVE your clean shop/work space. You and Adam Booth really do a nice job with that. I was watching another youtube machinists channel last night. A very talented machinist to say the least. However; he clearly failed cleanliness and organization 101, lol.

The current version is an EF1459 while mine is a SF8590 but they are nearly identical. The new version has a taller throat and therefore uses a longer blade but otherwise they are about the same.

Hi there! Please forgive my necropost... I stumbled on your channel pretty recently. Do you know where you got the tool bit tray that you use around @14:00? I could swear that I've seen the same kind of tray on another channel, but I don't remember where. Maybe Adam got sent one and showed it on SNS or something? I'm about to start setting up a small machine shop at work, and I'd like to buy or make something like that. I will probably just design something myself and 3D print it, but it's driving me nuts that I can't remember where I saw that same tray before!

Aaron, I suspect as you do your fabulous editing you see things (like we do) and pop yourself on the forehead and say ‘why didn’t I think of that?’ You beat yourself up over the blade you were using. I suspect you were referring to the low tooth pitch relative to the bar size? If so, if you had turned your rectangular bar 90 degrees, you would have had several teeth engaged. And since you have perfect straight and square fences now, that bar you were cutting would have been locked up solid. Hope you didn’t take offense to that. I was just watching Joe Pie’s latest video where he starts off and tells a great story of how his wife solution to a problem was so different and simpler to what he saw as the solution. Great rebuild. Please let us know what you did to fine tune cut straightness. Thanks for sharing 😀. I wish you all the best.

Say you definitely have machining ability and knowledge when it came to cutting the stock your blade would be correct if you would have cut material the width of the stock. Its about the amount of teeth engaged in the material

Looks great. I would have done it slightly differently. Looks like when clamping low or high it bends the moving jaw a bit. Might wallow out over time with only a set screw. I would have left the bore shallow and come in from the front with a highly torqued Cap-screw. Looks awesome though Aaron. Give us an update when you get your cylinder in please!

I've tested it and they seem to be equal. I try to use the 1/2" collet for the electronic edge finder so the drill chuck doesn't influence the reading. Most of the time my work doesn't need more accuracy than that.

It's really annoying to see the Metric sized captions during the video. Why can't the metric challenged just do what we Imperial challenged do and mentally convert? Don't get me wrong, I much prefer the metric system but not at the expense of annoying captions. I work in fusion and my preferred units are mm, so I'm quite adept at knowing the different measurements. Good buy with broach set, you're lucky I didn't see it first. :-) Oh, and I agree with the stickers, for as much as they cost, they could do a lot better with the tags. I'd expect metal tags... Thanks for the vids.
@AlwaysSunnyintheShop
@AlwaysSunnyintheShop 4 года назад
Thanks Larry the broaches were a good find for me. Sorry the captions annoy you, but my international viewers appreciate it. For those of us in the US, we get a bit of a mix with metric and inch and can convert since we have familiarity, but other parts of the world are 100% metric and have no need to learn imperial measurements. I want to be inclusive to the people from all over the world taking time to watch my channel.

Nice job, Aaron, those plates came out perfect. Though I do have a question about the lower support bars that you added to the workholding clamps... When you turn the handle to lock the pusher bars, does it clamp the lower bars as well? I'm afraid I don't see the benefit of adding those bars, if they're not locked as well.
@AlwaysSunnyintheShop

They don’t lock down, but they will prevent the push plate from twisting.

Amazing rebuild series. I have a question, is the blade square to the table, or does it lean forward at the top? Is there a way to adjust the moving blade frame to square the blade to the table?
@AlwaysSunnyintheShop
@AlwaysSunnyintheShop 4 года назад
It’s square to the table. I don’t think there’s a way to adjust that pitch angle.
@funone8716
@funone8716 4 года назад
@@AlwaysSunnyintheShop Reason I ask is I just acquired the Jet version of the Roll-in. The blade is currently not plumb vertically, but I see the guide rollers are mounted on eccentric stub axles, so I'm hoping those are the adjustment points. The Jet manual is of no help.
@AlwaysSunnyintheShop
@AlwaysSunnyintheShop 4 года назад
I suppose the lower adjuster could move the blade somewhat, but that is really meant to straighten the blade between the two wheels. Is the upper wheel not plumb above the drive wheel? Not sure how to fix it if it isn’t lined up.
@funone8716
@funone8716 4 года назад
@@AlwaysSunnyintheShop I'm sorry, I meant the head guide rollers that the entire head rolls 'down hill' on not the blade guide rollers. I'm also going to check alignment between the blade wheels, yes.

Hi Arron, great video as always, i was thinking about you power tapping, may a suggest that you consider using something like ER colet instead if using a drill chuck. taps will damage your chuck jaws when they slip ER collets are pretty inexpensive compared to replacement jaw sets . Cheers

Thanks Phil. I’ve been thinking about what I want to do to deal with that and an ER holder would be a good way to go. I also have a Tapmatic head that needs some repair that I should fix.
@PhilsProjects
@PhilsProjects 4 года назад
@@AlwaysSunnyintheShop yeah i have a tap-matic also, i don't use it for "one off's" too much vertical travel needed for the benefit. the er holder i bought with a 3/4" shank which is the same as my chuck that keeps the change overs quick & easy.
